What Drugs Have You Done? Here's My Story...

I was thirteen when I smoked my first joint. My brother turned me on to it... he was fifteen.

I pretty much stayed with Pot, then graduated to Speed (crosstops). They were cheap and kept me awake for late night working and partying. I first did speed when I was like sixteen or so.

At age 17, my best friend and his dad initiated me into the world of Cocaine. I was blown away by the "alive" and "revived" feeling it gave me. I really liked it, and continued doing it occasionally. I never paid for it, it was always offered to me at social events or by friends...

At age 21, (in 1987), I was introduced to "Meth" or "Crystal"...that was the one. I was in heaven, I thought. That one grabbed a hold on me though. I got hooked. I bought it, bought into it... etc. Everything that was important to me suddenly wasn't so important...except Crystal.

I lost weight, (I'm 5'9" and went from 165 to 147 pounds), I started getting in trouble at my job... my financial situation was horrible... my marriage was gone, my kid lived with her mother in another city... it was very, very bad... that was in 1995... the last time I took drugs.

I've been drug free since then... got my wife back, got my daughter back... got two more sons, got my life back!

This is the story I tell my daughter when drugs are the topic... I don't know why I'm telling you all this, I just felt like sharing, afterall, we know eachother by now...right?

Stay drug free... (the only drug I take now is coffee, and the occasional beer!)

Glad things got better for ya, Siento de Junio.

The only drug I've ever had was alcohol and I don't drink anymore. And actually it wasn't a routine thing for me to drink either. Since I was a kid I've been offered drugs by those around me, and could easily have gotten them, but it never interested me. I've seen too many horror stories firsthand. It's not pretty. sad

Thanks Supernova... glad you had the nerve to say no. I lacked the ability to do that. I think not only did I do it under peer pressure (the normal reason) but, I really wanted to try it... there's no getting around that.

I loved crystal meth... it became my drug of choice. I'm glad to be off it though.

Unfortunately, my brother (the one who first got me high) is still very much involved in drugs... we hardly speak. In fact, my mom just told me he's in jail...again. We've all tried to help him out, but ultimately, it's up to him.

Yeah, I've been a party to that situation too. One of my relatives was an addict, and if an addict doesn't want help, there's really nothing you can do except pray You can't make them get sober, it has to be the drive from within to want to get clean. I also have a life-long friend who has been doing drugs for years and years - I don't think she knows I know, and her quality of life has been slowly and steadily diminishing too. She and her kids now live with her mother and she's giving her mother a lot of problems. A lot of blatant disrespect going on. It's the same pattern one of my relatives went through with my mother.

pot, lsd, ecstasy, cocaine, speed, magic mushrooms, nitrous oxide, valium, various sedatives. oh and of course coffee and cigarettes and alcohol.

it all went downhill for me after too many psychedelics 'caused me to have first stage psychosis. i was not schizophrenic but i had a depression/schizophreniform related illness.

i underwent 2 years of treatment for the illness and am now completely well and drug free. biggrin

not everybody is succeptible to psychosis from drugs but i obviously was, so for me DRUGS ARE BAD (mmkay). the particular culprits were pot, mushrooms and lsd. they brought on the paranoia, etc (i was taking acid every week for about 3 months, which had something to do with it wink). i don't recommend that shit, but obviously that has a lot to do with what happened in my circumstances.

i am happy to say i am very well and happy now, with no symptoms and have had no relapses and it doesn't look like i'm going to experience any of that stuff again so long as i stay away from that stuff. i'm not even on any anti-psychotic medication anymore or anti-depressants. i am part of the lucky 25% that recover.

i still drink beer every now and then but i don't drink coffee or smoke at all these days.

i just like music, love, sex and or a good walk to cure my ills these days. smile

I did my fair share of experimentation when I was young. Pot, acid, mushrooms, cocaine, crystal, ecstacy. (God, I loved ecstacy!!) It started with pot and acid the summer before my senior year in high school. I only used on occasion and by the time I graduated, I didn't bother anymore. I just phased it back out of my life. It wasn't peer pressure, I definitely sought it out myself. And I didn't really try anything else til I was around 20. I spent my early 20's doing coke, crystal or E, maybe a couple times a year. And that's really it. I was lucky enough to never become an addict. But I also watched many, many people mess up their lives who weren't so lucky.

In fact, when I was 19 I found myself in a very unique situation. My oldest friend was very into crystal, and sorta wanted out. She needed a roommate, and I (stupidly) agreed to move in to help her out. It was a crazy, crazy time. She was a crystal addict, as were all of her friends. They would be awake days at a time, drawing little geometric patterns with felt tips pens, cleaning, recopying address books, taking hours upon hours to choose outfits and applying make-up. There were up to 9 people at any given time staying in this 1 bedroom apartment and I was the only sober person who worked (and 2 jobs at that!). When I was home, I would just sit in the corner and write about the whole thing. There were a few people dealing out of the place and after I came home one day to find a huge, huge pile of powder being weighed by a guy sitting on my bed, I started looking for a new place. I watched a 17 year old boy counting out thousands of dollars that he owed "someone" and freaking out cause it wasn't enough. He was falling asleep while going through his address book trying to call people to sell to, to get more money.

In the end all, I only lived there 2 months. And it pushed me to find my very own first apartment. And I learned, to never, ever let myself get to that point.

As for my friend, she got out of it too, eventually. She's now general manager of a restaurant, is back in college this year and is getting married this August. I get to be her maid of honor! So sometimes, people can change.

Just reading that story almost gave me a panic attack, because I know how that can be! Staying up for days at a time I mean. lol

I've done just about every drug you can think of starting at the age of 13. I don't do much now, and there's a long story that goes in between the age of 13 until now, uncluding numerous acid trips at a young age, (confuse that accounts for the way I am now!) but I won't bore you all with that crap.

I can honestly say though that if someone offered me coke, I might not be able to say no. But then I would feel horribly guilty after I had done it, and feel like a loser, which is usually what happens on the few occasions that I've done it recently.

I never really liked crystal though, because it always had such a synthetic, chemical feel to it. It just feels SO bad for you when you are doing it, that I can't enjoy it.
But, I'm glad I'm not really into all that anymore. I feel so much healthier of course.

Congrats to those of you winning battles against drugs. High is no place to be.

I've sniffed amyl nitrite (poppers) a few times for cheap, 15-second buzzes and I've tried marijuana twice with little effect. Silly novel thrills and thank God my interest was never piqued.

I've never tried anything else or been intoxicated by alcohol.

I've smoked pot occasionally... maybe about a dozen times or so in the past year and a half (I took my first hit when I was 18 )

That was the first time I did any kind of drug - but here, pot is so common, it's like cigarettes... it floats freely about.

I snorted Adderall a few weeks ago. It was fun but the sensation of snorting freaks me out a tad.

I drink just about every weekend (Friday and Saturday) but last night I drank for the first time in about 3 weeks. I also smoke about 2 cigarettes a day.

Other than that I'm clean. I'm not interested in doing any other drugs, really. I guess I'm just afraid of fucking myself up, and I feel like I don't really need them at all.
