Is Britney Madonna's heir apparent?

For years now, the industry has been pinning to find "the next Madonna".
I remember this being said of two artists in particular; Stacey Q and Lady Miss Kier when they were hot...only to see their careers fizzle. Then there's the "international Madonnas" such as Kylie Minogue (the "Australian Madonna") and Paulina Rubio (the "Mexican Madonna").

Now, it seems that Britney Spears is poised to take the crown.

Does she have what it takes? Let's compare;
- They are both bottle blonds, and are doomed to remain so.
- They both have less-than-spectacular voices but make up for it with their almost-spectacular dancing.
- They both use sex to sell millions of albums.
- They both have the media eating out of the palms of their hands.

SO - is Britney Spears the one to finally snatch the crown from Madonna?

You forgot one thing:

- Madonna makes pretty good music, Britney doesn't

smile

4 albums in: "Like A Prayer" vs. "In The Zone".

Kylie and Paulina are also much, much better than Britney (but this is a stupid topic, anyway). Anyone else around here who thought "Border Girl" was pretty good?

your forgetting Madonna was 28 or 27 when she did Like a prayer... Brittnay is only 21. so there is a big age difference. that has a lot to do with experience. lets just wait and see what brittnay is like when she reaches 25. thats when madonna broke out.

until...

u never know.

Madonna's heir apparent won't need to be endorsed by Madonna herself.

Now that is a shocking piece of info. I actually just bought "In the Zone" yesterday and I'm already thinking of selling it used even thought it had a few good songs. I just wouldn't want to lose money though.

It's a kind of silly topic becuase a lot of people fail to give Madonna credit for co-producing and co-writing nearly all of her songs after her second album! With Britney, she gets praise for co-writing half of her songs. Even better, with Madonna it is often only co-writing with one other person and with Britney...there are 6 other co-writers for "Me Against the Music"! BTW, Madonna is one of them and something tells me she wrote a good percent of the lyrics. As far as the media is concerned, myabe Britney is the next Madonna but music fans know better.

For anyone who's interested, here's Kylie Minogue's new video (for "Red Blooded Woman"):

http://www.kylie.com/test..._video.htm

I challenge Britney to produce something as sexy as this.

As to the "Mexican Madonna", there are many candidates: Trevi, Rubio, Thalia, etc. All have a certain appeal but lack whatever makes Madonna Madonna (perhaps a consistently good, diverse musical output?). Just as there will likely never be another MJ, there will likely never be another Madonna.

NO although all those ladies have the sexy rep, only Paulina Rubio was actually called "the Mexican Madonna" in the latin media. In my book though, Thalia deserves the title 'cuz she's WAY sexier than those other Mexican divas. Too bad that Tommy Mottola (her hubby) doesn't have that Midas touch anymore...otherwise this thread would've been titled; Is Thalia Madonna's heir apparent? As for Gloria Trevi; she's just a dirty skank...they should keep her nappy head in jail.

If you wanna know the truth,I think Gwen Stefani of No Doubt has a better chance of becoming "the next Madonna" than Britney does.Like Madonna,Gwen is a very interesting, sexy artist and she's "real" (as opposed to Britney, who just looks like a second-rate imitator).Gwen is working on her solo album,so you never know...

If Britney takes up the mantle, it'll be only by default. I don't see anyone out there now who can touch Maddy.

As far as I can see, Britney has assumed SAMANTHA FOX'S throne, not Madonna's.

Not really.
Madonna really broke out big time with Like A Virgin her second album. I believe Like A Prayer was actually Madonna's 4th album - she was already a major star at that point.

Note to Madonna: dump her.

I would also choose Gwen over Britney in a heartbeat.
Gwen is awesome, and she's got incredible style.
She's just got to learn to do outrageous things so that the gossip rags take notice. wink

Britney has turned into a second-rate Samantha Fox; a ditzy skank who, if teamed up with the right producer, can make some hella catchy music. Though Samantha has a much better voice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there will never be another Madonna.

The only one who comes remotely close is Gwen Steffani.

She was great in Evita, but that's because the project was a musical, so she was in her element.

In other films, she's so bad she's good (to watch, and laugh at)!
