I agree,it sounds like a Ray Of Light track....haunting and beautifully composed.Makes me wish that she would record an entire album of ballads, where songs like these can finally get the attention they deserve.

The Something To Remember compilation was a great indicator of how strong her ballads are. nod
I think she could even get away with re-recording her Warners ballads and having a big seller.

I will never understand why that track is left off of ANY compilation. It didn't even make it onto Celebration and I swear it is her BEST videos ever, and choice ballad.

No, it's from Music, but it's produced and written with Mirwais who did most of American Life.

Yeah I can't even sing it off the top of my head. We might be building a great Something To Remember Part Two list here worth revisiting.

Here is a supposed setlist that is making the rounds on Facebook from a French website. Who knows if this has any basis in reality.

Iconic, Hold Tight, Ghosttown, Love Don't Live Here Anymore, HeartBreakCity, Wash All Over Me/Rain, Joan of Arc, Devil Pray, Between The Bars , Deeper And Deeper, Justify My Love, Inside Out, Like A Virgin, S.E.X., Holy Water/Vogue, Dress You Up/Give Me All Your Luvin', Into The Groove, True Blue, Body Shop, Unapologetic Bitch, La Isla Bonita, Who's That Girl, Bitch I'm Madonna , Rebel Heart and Living For Love !

Maybe she's bitter it was her first single ever in the US since Holiday to miss the Top 20.

Agree, song & video are her in PEAK form. Love that track to death. And video.

I would be thrilled with this, minus that Between the Bars mess (Imagine from RIT 2.0 i guess - Madonna, you have so many great ballads of YOUR OWN) and who wants to hear Ghostown, ugh

What's wrong with Ghosttown? It's one of her best singles in years. Obviously she's going to be doing the singles from RH including Ghosttown. Behind the Bars was mentioned on another site as something that would be used in one of the video interludes while she is changing costumes not something she would actually be singing live.

I'll say it. From day one. Including today. I HATE GHOST TOWN! HATE! Definitely among the 2 or 3 M songs of all time that I despise (Cry Baby, Jimmy Jimmy level). Yeah, i hate GT. Madge-stan card revoked for now I guess. I hope it's an interlude during a costume change. If it must be in the show at all. The video, the song, the production. I'm in true hate.

Well, you'd better get over that because it will be sung live because it's one of the singles How can you put in on the same level as silly novelty songs like Cry Baby and Jimmy Jimmy? Why do you have it so much?

I'm not sure why. I adore a lot of her most recent singles that people blindly hate on -- Revolver, Girl Gone Wild, the Benassi remix of Celebration - all top notch, to me. I don't even mind Gimme all Your Luvin. In fact i definitely played the shit out of it when it was new.

Ghost Town is so inauthentic, so UN Madonna. It felt like her fans were bitching and moaning about her not doing proper ballads and she wanted a radio hit - all the worst elements combined. It feels like Katy Perry - meets Avril Lavigne meets Pink circa 2002. Faux sentimentality doesn't suit Madonna well. When she's sincere (as 99.999999% of her songs are), you feel it. it feels phony, corny, the produciton is bad, the video is sub par (though she looks amazing)...the vocals feel strained; too many words strung into too few lines...I could go on but I won't.

In general, i love Rebel Heart the album but the singles have been so poor. She literally chose the 3 weakest songs on the album - so many great tunes (I'm not even a lover of Devil Pray but it beats the other 3) - there's Inside Out, Best Night, Illuminati, Unapologetic (which was really a risk that paid off, IMO), Wash All Over Me, Body Shop, Heartbeark City, Sex - all top notch material and they choose Ghost Town and Bitch I'm Madonna. If i knew nothing of her album cuts and were a casual or non-fan, i would think this era was total garbage.

I don't think Ghosttown is at all inauthentic or unlike anything she has done in the past. It is very much a throwback to the 1990's Something to Remember era where she did a lot of AC leaning type of ballads. It is actually a very classic Madonna ballad. I understand she hasn't done many ballads lately but in the 90's she did a lot of ballads which are not that radically different from Ghosttown.

To me it sounds nothing like Avril Lavigne or Pink who lean more towards pop/rock/pseudo punk. You may call it corny but Madonna has always had a sentimental what some might consider unhip side when it comes to ballads. One of her most loved ballads from the 80's is Crazy for You, which is sort of in the same genre as Ghosttown. Madonna has always had what some people might say is a slightly corny sentimental side. If you don't see that, I don't think you really have been paying 100% attention to all of her releases.

Oy can we PLEASE Not compare Ghosttown to the utter masterpiece and pinnacle of her songwriting talent that is collected in STR? biggrin Not really - everyone feels music differently and is entitled to their opinion. I wish i heard what you/other fans hear in Ghost town. It feels compressed, corny and like an immediate attempt at trying to take over the Adult Contemporary chart...in the early 00s.

I don't find Crazy For You, One More Chance, I Want You, Love Don't Live Here Anymore, You'll See corny in the slightest...different strokes. Still has about 200 good songs and about 3 bad ones in her entire catalog, which makes her the most consistent pop star ever (neck and neck with Janet, but more songs so more good ones, same percentage tho).

I feel the same about GT i don't hate it but i don't think is great, it sounds like something Katy Perry will sing, and the video it's so plastic very fake and her looks in the video is so cheap, the video is worst that the song.

I know Evita exists as its own great THING, but I would definitely include "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" in a follow-up ballads collection. After the orchestral version of "I Want You", it's not even that far of a stretch.
