Björk's New Album Vulnicura, Live Shows

Björk has taken to social media to reveal the details of her new album. Entitled Vulnicura, the record will be released in March.

Posting a handwritten note on her Facebook page, the enigmatic singer also listed the names of the tracks that will appear on Vulnicura: "Stonemilker," "Lionsong," "History of Touches," "Black Lake," "Family," "Notget," "Atom Dance," "Mouth Mantra," and "Quicksand."

Also in March, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City is launching a retrospective to run March 8 to June 7, dedicated to Björk's career. As the MoMA retrospective wraps up, Björk will play the Governors Ball Music festival, happening June 5-7 on NYC's Randall's Island.

Björk's last album was 2011's Biophilia, which was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2013 Grammys.

Long time Bjork fan here--I hope I like her latest offering better than the last. I found it too....sterile.

According to her label, she co-produced the album with young electronic artist Arca, who worked on Kanye's Yeezus and FKA twigs' second EP.

My biggest question is what it's gonna sound like. All of her albums are really distinctive.

She's also working with the Haxan Cloak, whose work is really dark and industrial on the order of a NIN.

Thanks for this information. I'll do my best to attend at least one of these shows. The Biophilia performance was my concert of the year in 2012.

unfortunately for björk, the album has leaked.

a friend played it for me, and on an initial listen, it's her best work since vespertine.

another masterpiece the likes of which we haven't heard from her in at least a decade.

I'm NOT going to torrent the album.... I *think* I can help it..... smile

Yep, the new album has leaked very early, but I'm choosing to buy a copy when it comes out in March.

Bjork makes my ears bleed. I don't get the "love" for her. Its atmospheric noise with a mousy voice on top of it and some random or made up deep sounding title like Vespertine, now Vulnicura (i know other titles preceded and followed these but...) ...go, STAY away already!

Bjork is one artist whose work I'm committed to supporting with $$$$. I couldn't resist checking out the leak, though. redface Lovely, occasionally melancholy, but never maudlin album. My immediate favourites are the opening and closing tracks.

the opening track is good, isn't it? smile it's like a cross between "jóga" and "all is full of love"

in some places and just a gorgeous song all on it's own in others. those strings! love

datdude, her music IS.... *weird* , but it was I think "Isobel" that made me wanna check out more, (though I had bought the album in 1994, I think mainly cause I liked the "Big Time Sensuality" video), the *tune* that is - and the videos are all pretty much, Briliant, with a capital B. ... and the website, as I pointed out, was also fantastic! ...But, haven't heard anything from her in the last 10 years or so....so, it was nice to hear about her here on the Org, where we all *know* we have some tastes in common.... smile

Vulnicura Released Digitally Today
01/20/15

Remember when Björk posted a handwritten note on her Facebook page saying that she would be releasing her new album, Vulnicura, in March? Well, here we are, still in January, and Vulnicura is available to purchase on the U.K. iTunes store.

In a new post, the always surprising Icelandic singer revealed that the digital album will be gradually released worldwide over the next 24 hours.

Elsewhere in the post, Björk characterizes Vulnicura as a "complete heartbreak album."

"First i was worried it would be too self indulgent but then i felt it might make it even more universal," she writes. "Hopefully the songs could be a help, a crutch to others and prove how biological this process is: the wound and the healing of the wound. Psychologically and physically. It has a stubborn clock attached to it."

Though Vulnicura is being released now digitally, it appears that the CD and vinyl versions of the album will still be released in March as originally planned.

In support of Vulnicura, Björk will be playing six shows in New York City from March 7 to April 4. She'll return to NYC in June to headline the Governors Ball Music Festival.

Guess you were right about this being a "break up" or, as Bjork puts it, a "heartbreak" album...

I'm really excited for all this upcoming Björk excitement. I really want to see one of her shows, as I foolishly missed out last time she performed... I'm kind of annoyed that the physical album and Mp3 album have separate releases now though confused

Why? Just wait for the physical CD. Bjork was forced to release it early via digital release due to leaks, the same way Madonna was...

Because I'm tempted to buy it now, but I want the physical cd and my cheapness forbids me from buying the same album twice.

I understand why they put it out early though.
