Just got tix 4 the Birmingham show. Smaller venue, cheaper price & standing not seated like the London gig. Very much looking forward 2 this. Seeing him at Brixton & North Sea Jazz in 2012 were amongst the best gigs of all time 4 me. Like seeing P when he's in top form!

There's obviously some weird taboo going on here, but I'm going to bite: who is KF? I've tried to follow the clues provided but I've come up with nothing. Feel free to pm me if you feel speaking the name in public will bring about a curse upon you and your descendants. [Edited 11/21/14 15:55pm]

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing...I had no clue even though I´m one of the biggest (and maybe last) D´Angelo supporters around here. Never heard of her. wink

I missed out on those shows. The last time I saw him was in either 2001 or 2002 in Hamburg (great concert, by the way).

But....it´s a good thing that D´Angelo kind of lays low but then, when he does make an appearance, he still gives great concerts.

That´s why I don´t understand how some people can be so negative just because he hasn´t released an album in more than a decade.

As a listener, of course I´d love to hear a new album but D not releasing a new album does not mean I´d lose interest in him because the few albums he´s released so far are timeless classics without a single filler song, and he´s done a few features on some other people´s songs, plus some really strong concerts like the ones you mentioned above.

I´d rather see him do few shows, few songs, and keep us waiting and then when he does something, he does it well, rather than going through the motions or doing shows just to pay his bills and embarrassing himself by being a shadow of his former self.

D´Angelo is a true artist and one of the most soulful soul musicians out there.

I'm a little surprised nobody recognized Kendra Foster all too well. She's one of the P-Funk All-Stars and has been touring with P-Funk for about 12 yrs now. Her own songcraft and lyricism, in my view, are sophisticated and very poetic. I am not in any way surprised that D'Angelo has been working with her for a bit, considering his manifest love for Funkadelic. He rounds out the P-Funk and Prince connections well with his band's iterations.

Kendra is not a big deal to anyone outside of Pfunk and I would not call her style poetic or lyrical. From what I have seen, she talented..in a basic way.

Mmmm, I would beg to differ, although I might've been unclear. I think her lyrics have a poetic quality to them, similar to some of the more narrative styles of a Bilal or a Coultrain, but opposed to more prosaic styles with a Dwele or so. Granted, I am a fan of her solo work so I draw from my knowledge of her myriadmorphonicbiocorpomelodicrealityshapeshifter album and her Raw Honey Vol. 2 (and more recent works).

I won't make a comment on Kendra's vocals, as I recognize that I'm in the minority for being pretty fond of 'em. I do agree in full that outside of P-Funk circles, she's very obscure and information is only accessible if one cares enough to google her. Even within P-Funk circles, I'm not sure how well-touted she is, especially for those who better recall Belita Woods' tenure and her fuller voice. As far as Kendra as a bandmember, I'm sure a core contributing factor is her familiarity with P-Funk.

Bottom line, she's a crappy singer. She tries to be deep with her lyrics, but that too, is a massive fail. She has no stage presence or charisma. The only thing I can think of is that she must have other "talents" to keep her afloat.

It's especially glaring when you compare Kendra to D's former female backing vocalist, Shelby J, who could sing her ass off and is now with Prince. There is no comparison between Shelby and Kendra, cause Shelby can SANG.

Someone emailed me 2 say that Eric Leeds has also joined the line up! Has this been officially confirmed? If so this would be an awesome addition. I might have 2 get tix 4 another show now!!

It would be nice to have horns in the show. It would be even nicer if Shelby were to come back. Oddly enough, I think when D did the shows in Europe in 2012, she sort of hinted on Twitter that she would be doing backup, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
