Justin Timberlake: Racist?

I admit to being older then the favored demo so I ain't too up on my slang but...

Just read this:

Justin Timberlake Calls Madonna His "Ninja" on Her Birthday, Sparks Twitter Outrage

Justin Timberlake found himself the target of widespread Twitter outrage this weekend when he allegedly sent Madonna a birthday tweet calling her his "mother chucking ninja." Followers quickly pounced on him for his use of the phrase, which is sometimes understood as an alternate way of saying "mother f---ing n---a."

The tweet, which has since been deleted, reportedly read: "A happiest of Bdays to my mother chucking ninja, @Madonna!! Hope you have a great one, M!"

Users took him to task immediately after it was posted, responding with tweets like, "I just ended my relationship w/Justin," and "Get Justin Timberlake the f--k out of here."

As Grantland pointed out in 2012, "ninja" has been used in the past by other stars, too. Katy Perry, for example, substituted it when she covered Kanye West's "N----s in Paris" during a Radio 1 performance that year.

No doubt because of the outrage, Timberlake deleted his birthday message to his "4 Minutes" duet partner Madonna, who turned 56 on Saturday, Aug. 16. One day later, he retweeted a message from Matt Morris about the events in Ferguson: "The world is watching #Ferguson. [And we pray.]"

Justin Timberlake Blasted For Calling Madonna His “Ninja” On Her Birthday [Photos]

Justin Timberlake may be able to text Jay Z and Timbaland at a moment’s notice, but perhaps he has been overestimating the credit limit on his Black card.

Madonna celebrated her 56th birthday over the weekend and the 20/20 Experience composer had every bit of sincerity when he saluted her for another year of life. His choice of words in doing so, however, were highly questionable.

“A happiest of Bdays to my mother chucking ninja, @Madonna!! Hope you have a great one, M!,” he exclaimed.

Even the most casual inhabitant of the Hip-Hop culture knows that “ninja” is a visual and auditory safe substitute for the n-word. And Timberlake, a benefactor of a huge career that bridges the best of pop and R&B, clearly was aware of this as well.

Almost immediately, the tweet was deleted but the collateral damage was inevitable. A public defender might argue that Madonna may thrive on the word, seeing that her comfort level with the hood appears to be clearly intact, but two wrongs still don’t calculate a right solution.

Flip through the pages below to see the outrage the birthday tweet sparked. Barring the opaque cop out that there are bigger issues in the world, let us know if you think JT should be excused for his salutation or not in the comments below.

Well... he DIDN'T say the N-word. He chose the words he wanted to. If Ninjas all over the world are offended, I'm sure there will be an apology released by his PR team. I don't know why people even made a big deal of this. He didn't curse, wished a friend Happy Birthday, and that should hardly count as newsworthy. For Pete's sake, people really should loosen up or get a life! "Ninja" as the new N-word? No.

My thoughts exactly.

Does anyone think Timberlake doesn't hear how casually the word "nigga" is tossed

around his all black band? I like him, but he's smelling himself and needs to be

checked. And although I'm making an assumption here, so does JT's Black friends.

But, he won't be: the media hears how cavalier we are with the word and will let JT

get away with it. I used to defend Timberlake against the claims that he thinks he's

Black, but this incident don't help my argument.

what exactly is he "getting away it"? If that word is so offensive, then it shouldn't be okay for anyone to use it.But anyway,he didn't use that word.He used the word "ninja".

I don't think anyone is saying it's OK to say "my n!gga", but if on the street they're substituting ninja in place of n!gga or the other one, then semantically it's the same thing as saying said other words. Of course it's not ACTUALLY saying the same thing, but no one here was born yesterday.

It's strange that Madge is the same age as my Mother...As for Timberlake he was only doing what Pop Culture is doing. No he's not a Racist. Hip-Hop has turned the "N" word into something else and made it okay for White people to say it freely. Now let's talk about the obvious...He has 34 Million people Following him on Twitter so he knew it was gonna blow-up...I still havent forgotten how he threw Janet under the bus years ago...I have not let that go...He definitely has a Bitch-slapping coming..

This is a new one for me. sad I can never watch a martial arts film from the 1980's with ninjas the same way again like I used to because "ninja" is coded for "n***a" in 2014.

I don't really follow your reply. But the media did not make a big deal out of the fact that

Justin Timberlake used "ninja," which is internet-code for "nigga." The media, I'm surmising

didn't make it a big deal because either they don't know how Timberlake was using the word

"ninja" and aren't privy to that knowledge, or, Timberlake is, as BK pointed out, a pretty

whiteboy who can sing, and therefore, gets a pass.

And I disagree with you: white people should feel embarassed to use the word "nigga" and all

of its derivatives, and ought to not use it while Blacks, and rightfully so, have expropriated its

use. If you don't like this, then I suggest you create a time machine and go back and wipe

out all American slave trading practices. I support Black people's use of the word. White

people cannot use it, or its derivatives, with impunity.
