Their asses and titties are over exaggerated to depict their "Blackness". They're not supposed to be overweight drag queens. And this foolishness is so foul, I don't even know where to begin:

Interesting...look what I found. Seems Pharrell's mom is of Filipino heritage. Not sure if this is true, but if it is, could explain his high cheekbones, almond-shaped eyes. shrug

I remembered coming across something like that, but now I read that both parents are African-American. Not to say he doesn't have either Native American or Filipino traits.

It really doesn't matter what Pharrell is. He could be full Native but that photoshoot was done not to honor any other culture but to exploit a culture for the sake of a vapid fashion look. Nothing makes it okay, including heritage. The thought behind it is not about honor. Its just about appearance.

Thanks for agreeing with that wink I've known plenty of black folks who could probably pass off as having other ethnicities but are "just black". I wonder if white folks have conversations debating if they have any black blood in them or not wink

To me, there is no such thing as 'just black or 'just white', etc., because there is so much more to who we are as individuals. But 'in general', as a society on a larger scale, we (humans) tend to define and connect ourselves with others of similarities, such as, race, history or culture, despite some slight differences in any of those between us. For example, both of us can identify as Black or African-American, even if we were both raised in different cultures or beliefs systems, but we may also connect/identify the same, because of our similar, ancestral history. Anyway, don't want to get off topic...so back to Pharrell...lol.

I agree with you. I once joked with a friend that when it comes to race, you are what the police say you are smile

I still think the "outrage" about him wearing this was a publicity stunt. He's got an album out, so I think that's the more likely scenario. He's been around a long time, so he knows how the industry operates. Either way, from what I have heard from it so far, it's a fantastic album. Nile Rogers is an added bonus, along with Daft Punk...This one is a good track as well

Yeah...I guess he's riding the wave of people talking about him and the head dress right now, which is keeping his name out there and maybe helping to boost sales of his album...controversy tends to sell. Lol

lol The Village People were a campy, outrageous group. It was all innocent fun,but a group like them could never exist in these politically correct times. There would be too many groups of people becoming offended and complaining about them.Too many people wouldn't "get it".

Think of it this way,

If he had worn a papal mitre or a purple heart, there would be some outrage, and not so many people would be telling the outraged to "just get over it, you're too p.C. and sensitive." I agree that Native American attire has been used willy nilly for benign purposes - no malice or insult intended - but now that their voices are being heard, and they are telling us the significance of the headdress, maybe we ought to respect that. No?

So Pharrell apologized. End of story.

A lot of black (Americans) people can look "mixed" and both parents are black. There are some that pass for white practically and others that are very dark-skinned and everything in between. So, to say that he looks "mixed" is to deny the fact that the vast majority of black Americans have varying features, sometimes in the same family.

Prince is a perfect example of this, by the way! smile

I know that african americans can look mixed. I do but I am not-as someone who has a boatload of mixed friends, Pharrell does look mixed. His features look Asian.

Yeah I think perhaps his Native American ancestry (that I assume that he has) also carries traces of Asian features. All of the Native Americans that crossed over bridges migrating from East Asia to North America were the ones who carried the Asian genetic traits that many Native Americans of our era still have. Something else to consider is that during slavery in America (towards the latter stages) Chinese workers often worked alongside the black slaves. Intermarriage, mixing, etc. followed.

All that being said, I still wonder why Pharrell is tight-lipped about that issue. There are a lot of blacks who don't acknowledge any other ancestry because society treats them the same as those who are not necessarily "mixed". It's really complicated.
