Bruno Mars this week becomes the first male artist to top the 4 million mark in digital sales with four different songs. He achieves the feat as "When I Was Your Man" tops the 4 million mark, a plateau earlier reached by "Just The Way You Are" (5,991,000), "Grenade" (5,701,000) and "Locked Out Of Heaven" (4,366,000). "When I Was Your Man" topped the Hot 100 earlier this year.

Kanye West Thinks Bruno Mars Shouldn't Have Won The MTV VMAs and Told Oprah That "It's a New Day"

Kanye West had his second of two performances at the Barclays Center last night, and this time, he decided to voice his opinion about the MTV Video Music Awards. According to Kanye, he was outraged that Bruno Mars won "all the awards." Mars won the awards for Best Choreography and Best Male Video, the former for "Treasure" and the latter for "Locked Out Of Heaven." According to Kanye, these awards were given to Mars in order for the networks to sell the most product using "the prettiest motherfucker out."

Kanye attacked Media Takeout and those who comment on the site (which he apparently looks at beyond the 10th comment). He took issue to those who call the Yeezus tour "the best rap concert," insisting it's the best show across any genre of music.

He also recounted a conversation he had with Oprah recently. She apparently told him, "They're scared of you, Ye." Kanye's response? "I said, 'Oprah, it's a new day."

Bruno Mars adds third Sydney show

Bruno Mars has added a third and final Sydney show to his upcoming Australian tour.

The Grammy Award-winning artist behind hits such as The Lazy Song and Just The Way You Are will visit all state capitals during The Moonshine Jungle Tour in 2014.

Mars has now announced an additional Sydney show at the Entertainment Centre on March 8 ahead of his two shows at the city's Allphones Arena.

It will be the singer's first arena tour of the country.

Bruno Mars Named Top Pop Radio Artist of 2013

Congrats are in order for crooner Bruno Mars. The singer has earned the coveted and esteemed honor of being the most played artist at pop radio for 2013.

The stats come from Mediabase, a service which tracks and monitors radio airplay. ‘Locked Out of Heaven,’ the lead single from last year’s ‘Unorthodox Jukebox,’ received the most pop airplay of the year. Considering the high amount of traffic at the format through 2013, that’s no small feat.

The song, which nods to the Police, melodically-speaking, was a maaaaj smash for the superstar, and it was on the radio all the time, so this news doesn’t surprise us.

The singer is also in residency at The Chelsea in Las Vegas, the new performance space at The Cosmopolitan. He’s bringing the swoon and croon to Sin City through August in batches of dates.

His latest single is ‘Gorillas,’ a lascivious, but fun romp if there ever was one!

Bruno was supposed to start at 21.30 but after a 30 minute wait for Bruno and his band, the audience started booing and then the band finally came out some minutes past 10 pm. The jungle inspired curtain fell down and people started screaming like crazy and as I looked around behind me, the stadium was full. Most of the set-list was from his newest album unorthodox Jukebox and from his first album along with some other hits and some snippets of other songs such as a cover of Ginuwine’s Pony and R.Kellys Remix Ignition (which I highly enjoyed but the rest of the audience didn’t recognize, it’s Spain after all and I don’t believe Ginuwine nor R.Kellz were famous here.). I wished he could have done other songs besides his songs but I understand the concept of this tour is to promote his newest album and also give himself an identity that sets him apart of other artists at the moment, which he does really well. It was truly a party and people were dancing, teenage girls were hyperventilating and I was just dancing along with the great music that was being played.

The music was a potpourri of musical genres and the musicians played and danced everything from pop, 50s inspired Rock & Roll/ Doo-Wop, R&B and reggae. The wind instrument players even played some Mexican inspired melodies while the song Grenade was being performed. Bruno and his band, showed everyone that their music is all about having fun and enjoying the moment. It’s not pretentious music and they don’t take themselves too seriously either, incredible musicians who are just having fun. The dancing of the musicians along with Bruno’s humor, made everyone happy and as the show was about to end the Barcelona fans, showed their appreciation to the incredible singer, as everyone in the audience put up white hearts to show him love. Seeing Bruno playing the drums and guitar made me very happy as he is a quite talented guy, who also has substance and isn’t all about writing hits. Hopefully in the future, he will write more music that reflects his talent (although I’m a big fan of his current stuff lol). Personal high-lights was when he sung “When I was your man”, “treasure”, “moonshine” and “Gorilla” as he put his soul and heart into those performances. I can’t complain, although I felt the concert was a bit short but it was really fun and I truly enjoyed myself. I know he will convince even more people next year(super-bowl), this is just the beginning for this super-cute musician song-writer who has great appreciation for past music icons.

He's definitely been influenced a lot by MJ, but he's got his own style and does not come across as a MJ copycat.

Thanks ! Yes, I think Bruno is one of the only few artists who is heavily influenced by Mike and yet still doesn't become a copycat like many other artists during the 00s. Timberlake is an example for instance.

Yup I took it. I had front row seats (in front of the stage) I honestly wish I had more friends who were into bruno mars lol... Many of them are hipsters so they hate mainstream music -_- !

A review of Friday night's show in Nottingham! (Nov. 22)

Review: Bruno Mars at the Capital FM Arena

Nottingham has been lucky enough to attract some of the world’s biggest music stars over recent years. From Metallica to Rihanna, Lady GaGa to Liza Minnelli, we’ve been treated to some proper A-listers – and in Bruno Mars you get the sense that this is a name that is now worthy of being mentioned in the same breath.

Back at the Arena for the second time in three years, the Hawaiian born singer brings an easy charm and no shortage of talent to the stage. In a show that’s remarkably gimmick free – the odd pyrotechnic and tickertape explosion notwithstanding – it’s a 90 minute show that relies heavily on the strength of Mars’ songs and the vitality of the performance.

Joined on stage by an eight piece band this was a tight, slick and well-practised affair which showcased Mars’ many talents. Not only does the 28 year old have a great catalogue of songs but he’s also an accomplished guitarist and drummer and every bit as good a vocalist as you’d expect.

Always giving the impression that he’s having the time of his life, Mars had the audience in the palm of his hand from the first minute. Whether it’s up-tempo songs such as the 70s throwback Treasure, chart hits like Grenade and Just The Way You Are or heart-wrenching ballads such as When I Was Your Man it’s clear that the crowd have a huge affection for the star.

And, as if to demonstrate Mars’ broad appeal, it was an amazingly diverse crowd. My 9 year old companion was certainly not the youngest in attendance and there were people old enough to be her grandparents dancing in their seats.

If there was one niggling criticism it was that the show was much the same as his last visit and so anyone who has been to both gigs won’t have seen much change. There was the same cover – Barrett Strong’s Money (That’s What I Want) - and the same gag about regular collaborator Philip Lawrence’s contribution to number one hit The Lazy Song. And, at around 85 minutes, it’s certainly not the longest arena show you’ll ever see.

Of course the main difference was that we were treated to a number of songs from Mars’ multi-million selling 2012 album Unorthodox Jukebox. Indeed, a rousing encore featuring smash hit Locked Out Of Heaven was a great way to end the night.

In many ways Bruno Mars is the nearest modern day equivalent of Michael Jackson. He’s currently in Jacko’s late 70s phase but with a following wind and some great new songs he could easily do in the 2010s what Jackson did in the 1980s. Charismatic, brilliantly talented and with a great songwriting pedigree he’s already reached the music A-list and, on the basis of this performance, the sky’s the limit.

Review: Bruno Mars at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle

Pop sensation Bruno Mars and his brilliant backing band lit up a sold-out Arena with a set that rocked, swung, glittered and grooved.

The Hawaiian-born 28-year-old, who burst on to the scene in 2010 with the hit single Just the Way You Are, arrived in Newcastle on the final night of his worldwide Moonshine Jungle tour.

On a cold November night, the temperature inside the Arena soon reached boiling point as the band kicked off with Moonshine.

Followed by Natalie and Treasure , Bruno and his backing musicians, The Hooligans, insisted that everybody stood up and danced and everybody duly obliged and stayed on their feet for the rest of the show.

The bulk of the set came from his two mega-platinum albums Doo-Wops and Hooligans, and Unorthodox Jukebox, with a couple of old hits cleverly mixed in including Money (That’s What I Want).

In an era when much of pop is manufactured and soulless, Bruno takes us effortlessly back to a 60s and 70s golden age when music was played live, loud and proud.

Indeed he was recently described by the influential Rolling Stone magazine as ‘pop’s golden child.’

His outstandingly talented soul band cooked up a musical storm and had the packed Arena crowd dancing in the aisles.

Highlights, of which there were many, included Marry You, Runaway Baby and When I Was Your Man.

Special mention must be made of the brass section who danced around the stage while never missing a note, and Bruno’s brother Eric Hernandez who packs a mean beat behind his giant DW drum kit.

Bruno’s band, led by his production partner Philip Lawrence, were crucial to the performance, keeping the energy high and the atmosphere electric. Everyone in the eight-piece set-up appeared to be having a ball.

Bruno is a young man with an old soul voice and has been compared with all-time greats such as James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince - and rightly so.

His music blends the best American/Hawaiian/Cuban styles and the end result is utterly refreshing in the music scene of 2013.

The multitalented singer holds high notes, leads choreographed dances, plays electric guitar, plays acoustic guitar, plays drums, engages the crowd and flirts outrageously with the audience.

A sensational night from a great band and singer. Bruno’s first visit to Newcastle displayed impeccable musicianship and good old-fashioned entertainment values rarely seen today. The harmonies were sensational and the lights, pyro technics and huge glitterball thrilled a feverish crowd.

After a beautiful rendition of Just The Way You Are the band closed with Locked Out of Heaven.

-He can only stop people from recording his music without permission. Legally you cannot stop people from covering a song live. He could have the clip pulled off of YOUTUBE since he would not receive any compensation for the clip airing which I actually believe is the whole issue he has with covers of his music and his song being broadcast on YOUTUBE or other internet sites.
