Bruno Mars' Pole Dancer Steals Show During Performance Of 'Gorilla' At MTV EMA Awards

The Huffington Post UK | Posted: 11/11/2013 01:22 GMT | Updated: 11/11/2013 01:22 GMT

While all eyes were on Miley Cyrus at this year's MTV EMA Awards, wondering how she'd outdo herself following her recent duet with Robin Thicke, the highest-octane performance turned out to come from someone completely different.

When Bruno Mars took to the stage to sing 'Gorilla', it was clear his voice was on top form.

But it was the pole-dancer performing beside him on stage who stole the show, executing a series of breathtaking moves in time to the song.

bruno mars
Bruno Mars' artistry was matched by his dancing partner

As well as being incredibly flexible, spinning around the pole, often upside down, it was clear this dancer was immensely strong, frequently holding herself sideways, away from the pole, before flipping her body around effortlessly.

Even, during the bridge in the music, with Bruno Mars playing the guitar towards her while she stayed in the crab position, what could have looked ridiculously gratuitous, was rendered artistic and impressive by the dancer's skills.

Mars took home the Award for Best Song, for 'Locked Out of Heaven', but lost out on 'Best Male' to Justin Bieber, who wasn't at the ceremony. Katy Perry took home 'Best Female.

Not a big Bruno-holic, but I do quite enjoy Major Lazer's rework of Locked Out Of Heaven:

Has this been discussed? The reggae vibe is irresistable. Also enjoy Bubble Butt smile

It hasnt been discussed here in this thread or in any thread here on the org that I've seen but...Major Lazer did a great job with this remix. I like how they actually changed it up and gave it a regaae flavor instead of the typcial tired house/club beats that usually get thrown on songs. And I quite dig Bubble Butt  That beat is infectious!

Interesting Instagram post by Nicole "The Pole" Williams on her performance with Bruno and the band at last night's MTV EMAs:

nicolethepole
I'm such a dork. About to watch my perform on TV from last night with muthafuggin #BrunoMars and the #Hooligans. We were supper bummed about the visual TV edit, it didn't come out like Bruno planned but it was still off the friggin chain as a live performance and the crowd loved it. I saw all the girls down in the mosh pit and they were going wild. The best experience Eva! Such an adrenaline rush. I had to take a nervous boo boo about 30min before performing. #TMI lol #nicolethepole#NicoleThePoleEMA #EMAzing #mtvema #emamtv#ididthat #makinghistory #makingherstory#amsterdamn #international #alluredancestudioWww.alluredancestudio.com

I wasnt a fan of how they did the camera work either, superimposing the images of Bruno, Nicole, the band and that neon green sign over each other -- looked messy! disbelief I was wondering if that was Bruno's decision or MTV's decision. Confirmed my thoughts that it was MTV's (bad) decision).

Here's the performance captured by a fan--you got to see a lot more action without all the messy camera editing

M.I.A.

Screw Middle Finger Suit

I'M GOIN' BACK TO THE SUPER BOWL

EXCLUSIVE

111313_mia_launch
M.I.A. doesn't give two craps about the NFL's $1.5 million lawsuit against her for flashing a middle finger during last year's Super Bowl halftime show -- in fact, she tells TMZ, she's going back to the Super Bowl ... to support Bruno Mars.

M.I.A. was leaving an L.A. sushi joint when we asked about the lawsuit, and the singer laughed it all off like it was a joke -- but said she would attend the 2014 Super Bowl to support Bruno's halftime show.

Pretty safe bet she won't actually be on stage, but check the clip.

M.I.A. has previously scoffed at the NFL's legal action ... claiming she's a victim of nothing more than "powerful corporation d**k shaking."

Its been a long time since I've seen a review on Bruno's concert. Not sure if they dont publish concert reviews online very much in Europe or if I'm just not finding them online. Anywhoo, here's a new review! biggrin

Review of Bruno's concert in Munich, Germany (Nov. 12th)

*Translation by Google*

Bruno Mars concert in Munich's Olympiahalle successfully

Many female fans raving for Bruno Mars and therefore they also formed the majority of the concert on Tuesday in Munich's Olympic Hall. From Kid to Grandma all ages have been represented. Notable exception is New Bayern star Thiago Alcantara represents, also attended the concert. Unfortunately, Bruno did not play very long, and then mainly from his second album "Unorthodox Jukebox".A good show, moving his great voice and the band console over it. Bruno also terrific dancing and reminds despite other musical style of Michael Jackson.

He has some talent, but it's really too bad his lyrics suck big, fat Gorilla ballz. He's no different than Lenny Kravit in that respect. Some okay music, highly derivative and lyrically vacuous.

Lol @ Gorilla balls--thanks to his song Gorilla I now know just how big Gorilla balls really are razz Bruno and Lenny are good friends, Lenny even calls Bruno his little brother. They compliment each other well and loved seeing them perform together in Paris last month. I hope he brings Lenny to the stage with him at the Superbowl!

Bruno Mars concert in Barcelona 14th of November.

Bruno was supposed to start at 21.30 but after a 30 minute wait for Bruno and his band, the audience started booing and then the band finally came out some minutes past 10 pm. The jungle inspired curtain fell down and people started screaming like crazy and as I looked around behind me, the stadium was full. What first pleased me, was the sight of those Michael Jackson inspired loafers, that everyone in the band wore. The pathos of Michael Jackson is rooted in Bruno Mars’s aesthetics, dancing (the moonwalk, the robot dance etc.) and singing style and although one might feel he is doing too much pastiche of his hero, he somehow still remains true to himself. Much like his hero, the crowd in Barcelona was a mixture of children and older people and both females and males. The band was phenomenal as always and Philip Lawrence’s presence was well known, as his back-up vocals and stage presence is a great aid to Bruno and although Bruno is a hella of an entertainer, just like 80s Prince and his The Revolution band it gives him an extra edge to share the stage with such great musicians. Most of the set-list was from his newest album unorthodox Jukebox and from his first album along with some other hits and some snippets of other songs such as a cover of Ginuwine’s Pony and R.Kellys Remix Ignition (which I highly enjoyed but the rest of the audience didn’t recognize, it’s Spain after all and I don’t believe Ginuwine nor R.Kellz were famous here.). I wished he could have done other songs besides his songs but I understand the concept of this tour is to promote his newest album and also give himself an identity that sets him apart of other artists at the moment, which he does really well. It was truly a party and people were dancing, teenage girls were hyperventilating and I was just dancing along with the great music that was being played.

The music was a potpourri of musical genres and the musicians played and danced everything from pop, 50s inspired Rock & Roll/ Doo-Wop, R&B and reggae. The wind instrument players even played some Mexican inspired melodies while the song Grenade was being performed. Bruno and his band, showed everyone that their music is all about having fun and enjoying the moment. It’s not pretentious music and they don’t take themselves too seriously either, incredible musicians who are just having fun. The dancing of the musicians along with Bruno’s humor, made everyone happy and as the show was about to end the Barcelona fans, showed their appreciation to the incredible singer, as everyone in the audience put up white hearts to show him love. Seeing Bruno playing the drums and guitar made me very happy as he is a quite talented guy, who also has substance and isn’t all about writing hits. Hopefully in the future, he will write more music that reflects his talent (although I’m a big fan of his current stuff lol). Personal high-lights was when he sung “When I was your man”, “treasure”, “moonshine” and “Gorilla” as he put his soul and heart into those performances. I can’t complain, although I felt the concert was a bit short but it was really fun and I truly enjoyed myself. I know he will convince even more people next year(super-bowl), this is just the beginning for this super-cute musician song-writer who has great appreciation for past music icons.

BEAUTIFUL REVIEW GoldDolphin! clapping Thank you so much for sharing it! hug I'm glad you got to go and had a great time. I liked how you pointed out that even tho there are similarities between Bruno and Michael Jackson, he still remains true to himself. I agree and feel the same way. He's definitely been influenced a lot by MJ, but he's got his own style and does not come across as a MJ copycat.

Great picture too, did you take that? What kind of seats did you have?
