Overall, I like the album. It's got numerous high points, but I can't help but feel a sense of deflation after all is said and done. The Archandroid had a million musical ideas, but honed in on something truly captivating and instantly immersive.

Something about The Electric Lady kept me at a distance, though. The lyrics aren't as weird, the music isn't as energetic (perhaps on purpose), and the sequencing feels really odd. That being said, the beginning of Suite IV and the end of Suite V have all of my favorite songs.

My Top 5 from the album:

1. Dorothy Dandrige Eyes

2. Look into My Eyes

3. QUEEN

4. Sally Ride

5. Primetime

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

you really see her growth in this...the archandroid was super great but with this album she chose better a direction of what she wanted...it's a more cohesive album..but I like both 2 super amazing albums under her belt ( 3 if you add the ep)

The record is just amazing

My favorite tracks:

PrimeTime is the album's highlight imo, a great piece of R&B, Janelle's soulful voice, the bass solo, the instrumentation at the end just gives me plenty of chills...

We Were Rock n' Roll, Dorothy Dandrige Eyes also.

Anybody noticed that Ghetto Woman's background vocals sound similar to Michael Jacksons? I hear that kinda influence.

archandroid is probably my favorite album of the last decade..but I think this project is really strong too..while the archandroid wins on bigger ideas...this one wins in cohesity as an album if that was possible and in universal appeal imo.I think the albums show 2 sides both really good of janelle's artistry ( if U listened to her first mixtape the audition you probably will find elements of that janelle in the electric lady)

Yes, that's what I felt when I heard it the first time (I was initially a bit dissapointed when I heard it I guess I was expecting something else, but after listening to it several times, I love it but I think The Archandroid is better). I'm glad she's mixing up the electric lady with her audition sound. The second part of the album is some of the greatest stuff I've heard in a while. Esperanza Spalding (whom I admire as a musician) should work more with Janelle, because the vocals and the instrumentation are flawless on Dorothy Dandrige Eyes, her voice really shines on that song. I just wish she could have been confident with her artistry and not have so many collabs on the album and from a composition point of view, I feel there's an overuse of guitar parts on certain songs...

esperanza and janelle together were pure magic I agree.. wink about the featurings solange shouldn't have gotten a ft written on the cover imo, she only sings some background vocals janelle was nice to write ft she could have written that solange was in the song in the credits inside...I agree she didn't need that list of guests she is amazing on her own..someone should remind her that..!

creatively speaking the archandroid was a little better imo too..but this album has really solid songs too and I think more universal appeal (that was her goal for this in her own words tring to reach new people outside of her fans and I'm glad she did a more mainstream album but without compromising her art too much and still doing quality music). I also love that we can hear and see more of the real janelle here..the human side of her behind cindi ..and yes just a lot of really good songs..and everytime she starts to rap in the album I smile inside smile ..

Hmm - there's once again something holding me back from absolutely love this. There's no doubt she's some kind of genius, but I can't wonder how much more I'd get into it if she dialed back the wacky concepts, gazilion instruments and focused a little more on the melodies and emotion.

this album is the most universal I want her to be tbh...her not basic mind is what makes janelle special and genial but as a great fan believe me there's not much of her typical concepts here( we know she can be way more complicated if she wants) this album is VERY universal for being a janelle monae album..but the melodies and the quality are still there so I'm satisfied..

That's how I felt about Archandroid. Had a huge connection with her Chase Suite, but Archandroid(while loving the epic scope and production) left me feeling distant from it. This album hits the spot just right in a poppy kinda way.

I got the deluxe version of this album and it's a lot to take in. Many high points.

I loved:

1. Primetime f/Miguel. Pretty straightforward and basic, but still loved it.

2. We were Rock and Roll

3. Ghetto Woman

4. Sally Ride

5. Dorothy Dandridge Eyes f/ Ezperanza Spalding

6. What an Experience (this really grew on me after not thinking much of it).

And, I loved the two non-remix bonus tracks on the deluxe addition

7. Hell You Talmbout

8. I Want You Back

Liked most songs. These were the standouts for me.

To be comepletely honest, the Prince (Givin em What They Love) and Badu (Q.U.E.E.N.) tracks were among the least compelling. Not "bad" but "meh".

Still taking it all in.

yes yes yes! i am hella late...

but man! so ok... she has some cheesy lyrics here and there. But the production was fire! it was overblown at times but man i love the ambition...

And also having Prince & Miguel on here was a huge plus i love the tracks they were on.

I HATE when any artist does that...

Cause you spend money on an album to find out there are 4 other tracks on another album neutral
