It's a rip off of Goody two Shoes by Adam Ant. I saw it last night I enjoyed it, espeacially when she got up on the desk. Doing her bit of James Brown. lol Not a fan, but I understand why people may like her.

I saw her performance and disliked it. I think she's a really bad dancer and comes across so spastic. James Brown had control and was really slick with his foot work. Janelle looks like a sloppy copy cat. Not feeling it at all and here comes haters in 5,4,3, 2,1..... cool

I'm a Janelle fan, but this wasn't my fav performance by her. Either the acustic was a bit off of her vocals are a bit off in this particular performance. I wish she could have picked another single though! She's still amazing though biggrin

I don't care for her spastic dancing either. I've said numerous times that it's always been most distracting to me.

Now this...

I am able to watch and really enjoy 'cause she's not spasming all over the damn place.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I know for most she's a breath of fresh air. She wears clothes and can actually sing, plus we know she has the purple stamp of approval but I feel her stage presence needs work. She needs to learn control before going out of control, if that makes any sense. She just looks unnatural and silly. It's funny how people slag off Ciara for copying Janet but when Janelle Monae blatantly steals from James Brown it's ok?

Have to admit I thought she was on spasms during her dancing myself. lol

Well, what I meant is, every other damn pop girls do some choreography with "THE BODY" but not the feet, so it's nice to see Janelle Monae for a change.

I concur with most here, her dance routine for this particular show missed by a mile but I still like her. She was constriced by the limits of the mic cord and her boots plus she was all out of rhythm . I have the new album and don't plan on throwing it away, all I want her to do if and when I see her live is hire a choreographer. razz

imo she is the best entertainer around...I love when she goes all crazy on stage like for tightrope and for this song...anyway she can sing and dance her ass off at the same time and I love the fact that she dances spontaneously.. no coreography bullshit...

You know Mick Jagger has made an extremely successful career out of free-form, arrhythmic, spasmodic "dancing".

Let the girl get up and do her thang...whassonever way she wanna do it. cool

Gotta go with Timmy here--it's not saying much. Though I enjoyed the performance, and like the song--I like stupid fun pop, and this one works.

More important, my shipment with Metropolis and ArchAndroid didn't come in the mail today, and my stupid local Target couldn't find the 4 copies of the Target edition of Electric Lady they supposedly had (they didn't seem to have any of the standard edition, either).

So there.

I'm holding Ms. Monae personally responsible for all of this.

'Cause that's the way I roll.

Quite true. However, Mick's spasmodic dancing doesn't make me feel epileptic. Janelle's spasmodic dancing, on the other hand, has made me feel like I was staring into a strobe light. eyepop

Yeah but at least Mick Jagger's moves are his own! Now he's definitely got his own style. biggrin

I'm so with you on this, my thoughts exactly. I hate when people compare Janelle with James, it's blasphemy.

A good performance not great-her foot work is normal better. But, I like the spastic dance moves it fits the mood of the song. (This is not my favorite track on the album by far.) I do like GEWTL w/Prince,QUEEN, PrimeTime, and Ghetto Woman. Granted, I have only listen to the album once.

That's because she played James Brown's role when she promoted tightrope. (Including the bringing of the cape on stage.).

I get what you're saying, but people don't really say that Mick is an excellent dancer and rave over his moves. They usually talk about his "strut", and I've even heard it called "preening".
Janelle, on the other hand, is considered a really good dancer. I just don't see it.

She's gonna do her thing no matter what I think of it, so... biggrin

THIS.

That is the whole point of the song. The point is for people to dance uncontrollably and to be "spastic". Janelle is a good dancer (of course not no where in James Brown category but she is good at what SHE does) and I thought the dancing in this performance was good but the JB moves were a bit redundant here . Although she has good footwork, it can be a bit distracting since they are not her moves.I personally dont think comparisions like this are fair for an artist such as herself because it puts her in a box when she is too diverse/eclectic as an artist for that. I would love to see her do other types of dance moves or styles if dancing is something she seriously wants to do in all her performances. Like any other performer coming up, she will eventually grow out of this phase. I rather see her do some JB moves then be overlysexual on stage. At least she is attempting to actually dance. Overall, the performance was good. She is a baddd chick and I love her so much!!!

Come on now. If she was just being spastic on this one song, I'd totally get it what you're saying but that's usually how she's been in most of the performances of hers that I've tried to watch and for me anyway, it significantly takes away from what she can really do.

****

I almost want to think Erykah kept her dressing room door open so that cloud coming from it could slow Janelle's ass down some for the Q.U.E.E.N. video and it worked. I could FINALLY get through a whole performance and appreciate Janelle's talent. All that spastic stuff does is make me hit the stop button, quick, fast and in a hurry. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
