Your 3 favourite songs by genre

I really enjoy getting to know other orgers' tastes. So let's hear it!

You may pick whichever -- and however many -- genres you wish to highlight, but challenge youself by sticking to only 3 songs per category.

er

What genre are the Rolling Stones? They even made reggae. Prince? Anyway, it's still fun, I'll give it a try. I'll stick to famous songs so everyone will know them.

BLUES:
I'm a Man
Hobo Blues
I Just Want to Make Love to You

FUNK:
Sexmachine
I Want to Take You Higher
Mothership Connection

SOUL:
Respect
I Heared It Through the Grapevine
I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Lobe You)

Good question. You decide and answer as you see fit. I'd like to see the discussion that may come of it.

Naturally, this list is far from complete (...it's even far from scratching the surface). I could go on for pages with the genre of Funk, and didn't even include genres like Progressive Rock, Classical, The Blues, or whatever catagories you'd throw artists like Prince or Frank Zappa into. Nevertheless, here it is; my three favorite songs by genre (...as I feel about it at the moment, and for the sake of this particular thread, anyway):

Contemporary Pop/Rock:
America - "Ventura Highway"
Jim Croce - "Operator"
Carole King - "You've Got A Friend"

Disco:
Donna Summer - "On The Radio"
Anita Ward - "Ring My Bell"
Rod Stewart - "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"

Electronic:
Kraftwerk - "It's More Fun To Compute"
Komputer - "Headphones And Ringtones"
Larry Heard - "DNA-RNA"

Funk:
Bootsy's Rubber Band - "Stretchin' Out (In A Rubber Band)"
Con Funk Shun - "FFUN"
Captain Sky - "Bubble Gum (I Chewz You)"

Jazz/Hard Bop:
Grant Green - "Idle Moments"
Wes Montgomery - "Besame Mucho"
Cannonball Adderley - "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"

New Age:
Hennie Bekker - "Nkana"
Patrick O'Hearn - "Let Truth Prevail"
Peter Kater & R. Carlos Nakai - "If Men Were At Peace"

Rap:
Ice-T - "Ed"
Public Enemy - "More News At 11"
Run-DMC - "You Be Illin'"

Soul:
Al Green - "Tired Of Being Alone"
Aretha Franklin - "Don't Play That Song"
The Commodores - "Zoom"

Soundtrack:
Isaac Hayes - "Cafe Regio's" (from "Shaft", the original motion picture)
Rose Royce - "I Wanna Get Next To You" (from "Car Wash", the original motion picture)
Bette Midler - "The Rose" (from "The Rose", the original motion picture)

Vocal:
Louis Prima - "Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody"
Annie Lennox - "Why"
Martha Wash - "Proud"

"There's Nothing That The Proper Attitude Won't Render Funkable!"

It's very hard to choose. The easiest for me so far is what has become one of my favorite genres: italo disco.

Three clear highlights for me:

1. Tantra - The Hills of Katmandu

2. Bagarre - For Your Pleasure

3. Kano - It's a War
