On the occasion of Sly Stone’s 70th birthday on March 15th, his life and the music of Sly & the Family Stone will be commemorated as the Artist of the Month for March 2013, by Legacy Recordings, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Legacy's celebration of Sly & the Family Stone will continue throughout the year.

The Artist of the Month program was launched by Legacy this year, with a commemoration of Janis Joplin in January, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of her birth on January 19, 1943; and a commemoration of Nina Simone in February, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of her birth on February 21, 1933.

In every case, the Artist of the Month program provides fresh perspectives on musical legends whose sounds continue to affect people's lives. The program enables new fans and deep aficionados the opportunity to focus on an essential figure in pop music history, whose principal catalog is a cornerstone of the Sony Music archives.

As a tribute to the far-reaching horizons of Sly & the Family Stone, the first hit-making interracial, mixed-gender band, a deluxe retrospective multi-disc box set is in production for release later this year on Epic/Legacy. Full details of the box will be announced in the months ahead, but it has been revealed that nearly one-fourth of the contents will be previously unissued material.

[Edited 3/1/13 20:01pm]

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't know how i feel about this boxset. Considering, I bought the one that came out years ago, i'd probably only buy this if they add "High On You"(and that's a big maybe).

warning : don't buy your disco CD's directly from goldlegion.com....

My order from august 2012 never arrived, 2 titles by Grace Jones..

very bad email communication from the company too.

Avoid gold legion, instead buy the (same) CD's from amazon, they usually have what's on their site in stock.

Never had problems there on amazon,

I am very disappointed with the "service" from gold legion... sad

Yeah, i heard nothing but bad things about Gold Legion's shipping issues. Sorry you got duped.

Gold Legion is a horrible reissue label. They are notorious for their loooooong delays. Those two Grace Jones titles have been delayed for like 6 or 8 months now along with Laura Branigan and some others. Why announce titles when you know you are not going to be able to stick to your promised release dates? I really want that "Inside Story" reissue. I figure they may finally release it some time in the summer.

I might have to get these again. Any word on the bonus tracks ?

If you go on amazonUK, they have the track listings for most of these titles. Didn't see a track listing for "High Priority" but most of the others are listed.

thanks,

but my issue with GOLDLEGION.com is not about delays for a release.

The 2 cd's I have ordered has been released long time ago,

I was tired of waiting for my order from them, after waiting several months - so I chose to order the cd's by Grace Jones from amazon.co.uk and there they were, arrived really fast.

GOLDLEGION.com is a crap company, not responding to emails, and when they finally do, they promise "to look into it and check my order".. and then: nothing happens....

>> avoid to order from their site.. and it's true about the delays, it's just not what happended to me.

MAYER HAWTHORNE - HOW DO YOU DO (12 X 7" BOX SET)

The “retro soul” tag is added to almost any contemporary work that sounds like it was originally recorded before 1980, and Mayer Hawthorne is aware of how trends come and go.

On How Do You Do, his first major label effort for Universal Republic Records, Hawthorne proved that he is not part of a trend. The classic Motown sound that provided the blueprint for his self-produced independent debut, A Strange Arrangement, remains, but is joined on How Do You Do by music reminiscent of late 1960s California pop and the best work from the likes of Steely Dan and Chicago.

Universal Republic Records has teamed up with Fat Beats Records to reissue How Do You Do in a stunning 7” vinyl box set featuring the entire album and it’s previously unreleased instrumentals. Housed in a hard case “black on black” box set, this collection features12 pieces of 7” wax in 12 picture jackets, along with a custom plastic display sheet which holds each of the 12 sleeves in a 4x3 collective mosaic.

Snoop Dogg once heralded Hawthorne as his new favorite artist, praise shared via Twitter by other stars such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and John Mayer. With this re-release of How Do You Do, such sentiment is sure to grow, just as Hawthorne himself continues to grow as an artist and performer. It was soul music from which he came, and those roots will never be left behind. But there is more to this artist than just soul music.

Off course I did, I have emailed the company goldlegion.com many many times,

with some (delayed) response, sometimes (most often) without any replies...

the result is still : NO CD's.. and, I have been waiting since august 2012..

edit:

sorry I missunerstood, your reply was maybe to the Dan Hartman CD and not really to my Gold Legion problems... question
