An Appreciation for Beck Thread

On a lonely friday night for a young man frightened by loud, headache inducing modern music, alchohol and loose women (only a little bit for the latter), my narcissistic party of one is catered to by this overlooked (by me and the non-descript) classic:

Heartland Feeling, still an anthem for the ages:

http://www.youtube.com/wa...o4iSYZAJXE

Got through all his earlier lower label and wistful works (kinda annoying, but not entirely awful) finally and am salivating thumbing through the rarities again after Farewell Ride. Dude is odd and not Prince (not mad at him anymore lol yawn), but still the quirky genius he is made out to be. Can't play any instruments and not gonna learn anytime soon, so no thank you for the last album. Hope the new one is as fun as they've always been. touched Be careful to wax however you will about Mellow Gold and Midnite Vultures cuz I will respond to just about every comment made. highfive and bringiton

Was wary of the change for quite some time. Have had it since a little while after it came out and listened to the whole thing firstly just recently. Dig all the strings and shit, very enticing. Mutations also has it's weirdo moments that stick out for me. Deadweight and his latin influences make me feel good about being part-Guero and without overlooking my inherited latin quirks. dancing jig

Odelay. Mutations. Midnite Vultures. Sea Change.
Gureo. The Information. Modern Guilt.

All of them amongst my fav records ever.

Very excited for his new album, it's been far
too long. Although his work with charlotte g,
bat for lashes and all his record club songs,
covers and occasional one offs have kept me a
bit busy until now.

But right now it's TIME for a new Beck album.

there was a time when I tried to LIKE this guy...

...but...no thanks

"Devil's Haircut", "Sexx Laws" and "Mixed Bizness" are the ONLY three songs that I like...

that said, i totally understand why he has this huge cult following

Beck is one of my very favourite artists ever worship. I love so many of his songs, but this is my favourite:

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I love Guero, it is a very underrated album IMO.

Keep trying. I'm kinda over most of Odelay, but Midnite will always be my favorite for obvious reasons. touched

Earthquake Weather (love his take on this typical beat though) and Rental Car, which I've completely forgotten about even the day after aren't necessarily keepers, but it all blends perfectly, let the clear mind tell it. peace!

i just got his 2012 on off single "I just started hating some people today"/"Blue Randy"

and it's brilliant.

now, the a-side is a cool enough tune. but the b-side "blue randy" is just awesome.

cool

I haven't really followed what he's been up to during his "break", but I like these:

That "record club" thing was a bit confusing. A bit of a "sign of the times" type of a thing when people think they can just go in the studio and "recreate" an album without rehearsing it first.

Eh, I just learned that "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" isn't a new song, but is actually from 2004 and has been just more recently used in a TV show. Should explain the "Sea Change" vibe then.

Well, you gotta learn sometime. shrug
