It may not be a surprise, but damn let someone else sing. I just feel that she's overhyped. There's better singers and entertainers out here than her and folks act like SHE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT EXISTS when she isn't. I know it isn't up to me as far as who performs, if it's true that the first lady prefers her, then so be it, but yeesh, she's overdone, overexposed and overhyped. shrug

[Edited 1/9/13 12:25pm]

I'm so with you on that one. Could we at least get a naother singer for once that doesn't just appeal to the younger demographic? Outside of 3 records from the first cds she released I'm not interested in Beyonce's music nor hearing her sing. It would have been nice for someone else to have a chance. Hell, I'd even take Diana Ross's senior citizen ass at this point, with her 50 yards of tulle, beads, and all. bored2

Personally I would like to see Gladys Knight get some love once in a while.

I guess since Bey and her Hubby are friends of the Obamas and raised a crapload of money for the campaign I shouldn't be surprised.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

To me, there are so few celebs/entertainers out there now. Especially compared to the 80s. Hell, Prince, Madonna, MJ, etc were HUGE in the 80s, but they were not on EVERY awards show or high profile television show every time it aired.

Hun, you know I love you to bits but this is where I have to stop you BUT I agree with your last statements, very spot on.

The HEAVENS, THE GALAXY, THE CLOUDS, THE AIR, THE ANIMALS,knows I try to avoid this BORING, bleached, overrated, overexposed, overhyped, average looking and tired heffa threads because for some creepy reason this board thinks she is more important than what she really is but with all this being said, I respectfully disagree with this statement.

I can name drop at least 5 entertainers that are more entertaining than this boring brat.

I also agree with Missfee that Mint Condition could have been a better choice and different pick although realistically that probably would have never happened even if B didnt get picked again.

They could have gotten ANYBODY to perform and do that National Anthem, I dont give a fuck what nobody says biggrin

The ONLY reason why they chose Beyonce is because she and Jay Z are buddy buddy with the Obama....(which aint no secret and everybody knows rolleyes I would have been even more surprised if they didnt pick her!! Im surprised they didnt ask Jay Z to rap his opening introduction eek ) Honestly, it really doesnt matter to me because I am not going to watch either way but its not really a good look because she performed at his first inauguration, his first dance with his wife, at the recent galary Obama and Michelle over the summer for worlds help day AND NOW this. It screams of kissing ass and favoritism. LET SOMEONE ELSE SHINE.

I like Obama but Im sorry his a little disrespectful for this and fake. (Say what you want to say but I dont care)

I mean Obama didnt even ask ETTA JAMES before she passed away to sing her own song that she was well recognized for, they asked Beyonce and now their asking her again and again... and again yawn Why not legendary acts like ARETHA FRANKLIN, TINA TURNER, DIANA ROSS, STEVIE WONDER, AL GREEN someone with a more deserving legacy, legendary merit or different for a change. I personally think they could have asked someone more historical defined like any of the artists mentioned above to sing with the first black president to make it more historical but Obama doesnt seem to care about that and instead is fixated on kissing ass and being "politically correct"

Finally on your last statements, you are spot on with your comments. For one thing, Beyonce is NO WHERE on MJ, Madonna and even Prince level EVEN during their peaks as well as hers and currently she has peaked. Nobody really gives a fuck about her but HER neutral

MJ, Madonna etc was not performing at every damn award show, at every event for the president, didnt make an appearance at every damn show, released a 100 singles, did a 100 magazine covers, did a 100 movies, etc Im not say they didnt work the media either because they did to but it wasnt on a outrageously insecure level to the point they could not disappear for a couple years and regroup. They took like 5-6 year BREAKS in between album releases!!! People look at Beyonce and say she is hardworking and I look at her and see that shes DESPERATE/conceited because she thinks she is more than what she is

I feel sorry for every single black girl who looks at her and feels like they have to look like her in order to be called beautiful, as a black female SAD. Beyonce feeds into her "western image" which is why she is never going to hang up her old blonde wig.

NOT ME, I LOVEEEEEE MY brown skin I dont fall for the bullshit, if I wanted to buy some bleached blonde weave, I can go down the street to my local beauty supply store or if I wanted to have my skin lightened even more than it is I could go to the beauty supply as well or pay money for a nose job, I am NOT doing that shit or feeding into white peoples and western society ideal and I feel sorry for you motherfuckers that feed into the false misrepresentations. Somebody just posted a pic of her and Miguel and she looks "average looking" whens she doesnt put the excessive make up on. Ive seen better looking women and black women at work and at my school (and no Im not saying it because I dont like her, Im saying it because its true)

But O well lol ..... yall can jack off to a fake photo and kiss her ass because shes singing the National Anthem for Obama all you want thumbs up!

You don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but what exactly do you mean "she thinks she's more important than she really is?" She's important to her fans like any other entertainer. What you said makes absolutely no sense.

It's funny you mention loving your skin and nose jobs, yet the man you stan for has color issues that are deeper than Beyonce's.

Call me a Bey stan all you want (I don't even like her), but your heated outbursts about Beyonce a lot of the time don't make any sense. We all know she makes terrible music, but you all take it farther than that.

And before you say I've called Beyonce everything but a child of God. I know. I'm not denying that. But you make no sense.

I'll answer your question.

I think its ridiculous how she makes overly pretentious remarks about herself (especially when she has not done anything for music that merits it) and how she indirectly insults her peers which is why I said she thinks she is more important than what she really is.

On MJ: MJ didnt have deeper issues about his skin color and he had a skin disorder, Vitligo he also proclaimed to be a proud African American numerous of times unlike Beyonce who insists that she is Creole and not black when she is and I think thats ignorant.

Lastly, I dont know what your issue is with me criticizing Beyonce especially when you do it yourself. If people are free to make a million threads on her, why is it so shocking that people would make a million negative responses on her? Especially knowing that she is not a favorable artist here.

The people that make a trillion threads on her KNOW THIS and they do it to troll and to instigate negative responses on her, so NO I DONT APOLOGIZE FOR ANY OF MY OPINIONS on anything really.

If people are free to make a million threads on her than people are free to express whatever objective criticism or positive opinion they may have.

You act as if I was the only one that ranted on about how overexposed and overrated she is (which is exactly true and you know this) I dont know what your problem is. You say the same exact things. I am not heated about anything but a bit tired that this forum devotes a million threads about her when she is not really that important and very boring. With that being said, I vent my opinions on her just like every and anybody does and if you have a problem with it, I dunno I guess deal with it but that doesnt make any sense to me because you feel the same way. I dont see how none of what I said not made any sense when its pretty much the same things you say yourself, but okay:lol:

I dont see how we are taking it farther with the criticism. The media says that she is a good songwriter, a great singer, makes great music, is perfect, is the greatest of all time and we simply disagree. I dont see how the criticisms are taking it to far when the media pushes those false claims on us and their overly exaggerated . The other bashing she receives is because she makes conceited comments and elementary responses in interviews that comes off unclear or insulting.

The reason why those fans on those other forums get riled up about her is because she is overexposed and overrated and is undeserving of alot of accolades she receives, the shit is not rocket science, you know why people are tired of her.

and you make no sense to me either, wow we have something in common thumbs up!

I know you can't be serious but if you are, I can see them performing one of their tired ass newer songs. It took them a long time to finally do it, but they're becoming sellouts just like the rest of the older artists that release new stuff. I can't see them throwing down hard at an event like that, shooting fire from their hands, and bringing out the snake. With a big audience like that watching, I can see them try to promote that newer bullshit they have.

As for their new stuff.... barf As for their Stax stuff, hardly anyone remembers any of that except for "Holy Ghost" which was major and possibly "Son Of Shaft". The Mercury stuff is what they need to be doing. That's what they're best known for.

They do select shows where they perform all the popular stax hits with a full
15 to 20 piece band called the Stax Revue. They just performed one of these
shows in Italy a couple of months ago. They sport the blues brothers suits
and the whole nine.

Those Icons have had their day and enjoyed their day of having YOUTHFULNESS and the IT Factor....When Aretha & Diana were in their 20's & 30's they were America's IT girls for that Generation. That time has passed. We can't beat up Beyonce, Mary J., Monica and hundreds of other Powerful Performers when they're asked to do TODAY what the The ICONS was asked to do during their day...It's NOT fair and it doesnt make any sense...

You do understand that TIME doesnt stand still? Diana & Aretha will NEVER get the Glory of being 30-years old AGAIN and remaining the talk of the Country. Beyonce is THAT Artist today and she doesnt have to feel bad about it and no one should have to defend her status as THE Young SuperStar that the Industry calls on.

I Love the ICONS just like the next person but this Generation is embracing the Younger Artists of their time. This is no longer the 60's, 70's or the 80's....

You need to move to Modern time and accept & acknowledge the Fact that this New Generation of Artists are doing it their way and MAKING the money their suppose to make...

Beyonce IS today's Diana Ross, yes she STANDS on Diana's shoulders but she doesnt have to be Diana's background singer cuz The B-Girl gots her own, makes her own, and is her OWN Boss.......

It´s not the first time she sings for a president. She sang for GW Bush for his inauguration, albeit not solo but with her group Destiny´s Child.

Of course people can change their political affiliation but it is a bit strange to sing for a Republican and then for a Democrat, isn´t it?

forgot the letter "t" edit..

I think you are missing the point because this is not about old vs. new singers. This is also not about Aretha and Diana Ross specifically because objectively Beyonce has signicantly change the music industry in the way Aretha and Diana Ross did in their youth so that was a fail arguement and comparision. I just simply used different examples of other artists thats could have possibly been picked to the sing the song.

I find it hilarious that you mentioned Monica and Mary J both whom have never singed for the president Obama. Beyonce has singed for Obama NUMEROUS of times and on MORE THAN ONE occassion. Its fine if the Obamas like her but I think its fake and tackie to constantly pick her when there are other more deserving performers that deserve the honor and it comes off that he plays favorites. I could see you making this arguement if Beyonce NEVER performed him but she has ALOT of times.

I also think your disrespecting the legends like Diana and Aretha because to be frank it doesnt matter if its past their time THEY PAID THEIR DUES and have culturally change music and EARNED the respect and right to perform for the president and in my opinion MORE than Beyonce who has performed for him hundreds of times. I just simply suggested they pick someone new and give someone else a change it doesnt necessarily have to be a older artist. There are much better performers/singers that could have sung that National Anthem.

Beyonce IS today's Diana Ross, yes she STANDS on Diana's shoulders but she doesnt have to be Diana's background singer cuz The B-Girl gots her own, makes her own, and is her OWN Boss.......

lol She stands on her shoulders? So are you saying shes better than Diana Ross? And with this delusional comparision I can not take a word you say seriously at all LOL. It is BECAUSE Diana Ross, Aretha, Gladys etc Beyonce is able to do what she does and especially Tina Turner who she rips off. Not bashing Beyone or insisting she is not rich or successful just think she is overrated, overexposed and tired and their are much deserving performers that could have sung that National Anthem, have a good day.

I agree with what you said. I am the biggest Michael Jackson FANATIC in the world. There is NO ONE who will ever be on the level that he was/is. However, that doesn't negate the fact that Beyonce is a GREAT entertainer. This doesn't take away from icons such as Tina, Arethat, Diana, etc. They paved the way for Beyonce. Beyonce DESERVES every ounce of success that she has received. She works her ass off and I have NEVER heard her put ANY other artists down. I have NEVER heard her throw her family under the bus. FTR, I have never heard Beyonce put herself on the level of Michael, Diana, Tina, etc. or other ICONS. She has always remained professional and classy in every way.

Personally, I can't wait to see her perform at the SuperBowl because I KNOW that she is going to do a GREAT job. Beyonce never disappoints. Her appearances and concerts are always top-notch.

It is not her fault that the media loves her and kisses her ass. The media can turn on you in a moment. The media kissed Janet's ass every chance they got and we see how they turned on her. IMO, Beyonce is no more OVER-exposed than Janet was at her peak. She was on every talk show, every magazine, etc. doing interviews. Therefore, all of this hate-filled talk about Beyonce is based on JEALOUSY, IMO. Would the same people hating on Beyonce be saying this if it were Janet singing for Obama's Inagural, on magazine covers, doing the SuperBowl, etc. The answer is NO. Janet fans would be besides themsevles with joy. I am a fan of Beyonce's music. I appreciate how she presents herself in her private life and I love her performances, music, etc.

Finally, all of the hate about Beyonce's "looks" baffle me. Beyone IS a beautiful woman. Basically, she looks the same as the did as a child. She was a beautiful little girl, who grew up to be a beautiful woman. She is NOT the first black woman to color her hair, so I don't know why all the hate because she wears blond hair. It is HER choice and I have no problem with it. IMO, she is not trying to be or look white just because her hair color choice is blond. I say to Beyonce, continue to do YOUR thing and don't allow anyone to stop you from fulfilling your dream, just because people want you to sit back and wait on THEIR artist to come out with new product. There is room for everyone and sadly it seems that SOME of us, have this idea that Beyonce keeps THEIR favorite artist from doing their thing. SMH!

Yes they really are performing per their website. Larry also had an interview with the local CBS affiliate in Memphis speaking about it. Lmao at sell outs. I assume u talkin about their new song grown folks. They will probably do a couple of stax y classics as they have been doing some stax revues too. Mo money mo money! lol [Edited 1/11/13 3:13am]

I sure hope that we get to see them on TV during the festivities.

Besides that, if I were planning this event I would definitely have included Al Green. After all the hoopla that happened when Obama sang Let's Stay Together it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
