If success means record sales, Adele is the winner.
If success means making the headlines, the late Amy Winehouse is the winner.
My own personal choice is Joss Stone. Gotta see her live someday! She did a gig in Paradiso in Amsterdam last year, but Prince was playing the Melkweg the same day, so... Better luck next time.

No Amy Winehouse in that mix? She was pretty successful I'd say. I think the biggest female thing to come out of Britain is still the Spice Girls but it's been more than a decade since they dropped so can't really put them in the list I guess. OMG they were massively huge back in the day. Love me some Adele though so I'm happy she's successful right now. mushy
