Doubts surfaced early on Michael Jackson

Emails in Jackson insurance litigation show AEG execs knew of concerns about the pop star's stability.

This was a bonified mess. Mj is gone and everyone else made a lot of money. What a shame. ;(

I really feel bad 4 Mj but u cannot tie yourself 2 these type of folks. Anyone who knew Mj at the tme knew he could not and would not pull of these shows. Just pull up the org comments alone when these concerts were announced. Very very sad outcome.

THIS! I don't think any of us are surprised about the content of these emails.

Oh he IS miserable. I'm a hardcore Prince fan too, but even MJ occasionally got interviewed about and was happy to present awards to his idols. I don't think I've ever seen Prince do anything that wasn't ultimately about him.

Wrong again! Prince attended & participated in the 2011 MusiCares Person of the Year ... Prince introduced Streisand herself & walked among the crowd with her. Also Prince and his then wife Mayte helped induct George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic in The 1997 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.He gave a very funny speech to. So please stop painting Prince like U want him to be..

What I find also odd is that during his last few weeks, employees that Michael FIRED decades ago were suddently coming back into his life, such as Frank Dileo and John Branca, who is now head of his estate.

Of course they were coming back into his life. He was getting things back in order. It was when he got rid of Dileo and especially Branca his affairs went to hell.

And it's not like Branca was never not in charge of MJ's estate. Some try to make it out like MJ has some sort of unheard of will or something.

(MJ reading about Prince's mega hit Oscar winning movie "Purple rain")

Just the little interview he did with Chris Rock. Michael never even commented that incident. Come on now, MJ wasn't petrified - he the most known superstar in the world. He sold out the 02 arena in seconds and he hadn't performed since 2001.

It's unnecessary to be defending Prince - because in all honesty we may never know the whole story between these two. As far as we know they were friendly rivals in the music industry, I woudldn't call them friends as their is nothing that suggests they were friends. In fact before Lisa Marie Presley got married to MJ, she attended a party were Prince was also going to and she wrote a note to MJ saying, that she was sorry for the inconvience of Prince being at the same place. Prince went to see MJ in 94 while he was recording the HIStory album and it was only Mike & Prince talking so nobody knows what was said. So there's not really much information about Prince & MJ being friends (or even meeting), I think some people want to see them as enemies, others as friends but why waste time on their relationship because it doesn't reflect their artistry. It would have been interesting to see Prince on the BAD25 thing, but we ALL already knew that would NEVER happen and not even Spike Lee could make it happen lol.

Where did you get that LMP story from? I have never heard about that? I remember once reading an interview with Bob Jones in Bravo (A european teenage magazine) when HIStory was realeased and he said that Prince once visited MIke during recording of History and that he liked what he heard. Back then Bravo was kinda reliable. They always had pictures of their reporters with the stars they did interviews with, so i don't think they made that interview up. Haven't read Bravo in years, so I am not sure what it is like today, but back then they always printed reliable info on Mike.

Everyone who has power or success are afraid of losing it - particularly the most powerful.

Michael was at the top, the only way he could go - realistically - was down. Of course he would feal slightly threatened by an equally tallented artist emerging as both a critical, award winning, and sales success.

I highly doubt Michael was afraid of Prince. Michael is/was literally the most famous person in the world, so him being 'petrified' of Prince is just popostrous. They both had huge respect for each other...it's US (as fans) that pit them against one another. If they had such an issue with each other, I'm sure Prince wouldn't have dropped by the studio back in 1995 to have another meeting with Michael while he was recording HIStory.

lol I doubt Prince ever interpreted the lyrics that way, although either Wendy or Lisa did say he laughed at that line. Like he explained in Chris Rock interview his problem with "your butt is mine" lyrics was the fact that MJ was saying that to him, when they both really shouldn't be saying that to each other lol It basically kind of makes it look like..Prince is bowing down to MJ by letting him say that to his face. I'm sure that wasn't what Michael was really aiming for but I'm still glad Prince didn't do it!

Yeah I think they were neither ultimate rivals nor BFFs. Like you said I think they just had respect for each other and maybe there was brief rivalry going on during the 80's created by the media but I'm sure it faded away quickly. I mean if anything, it seemed like Michael was compared to ppl like Elvis way more often..

Question regarding fans who bought tickets to see This Is It: Did anyone who paid for tickets ever get their money back? I remember reading something about Randy Phillips encouraging fans to hang on to their tickets as a souvenier instead of returning them for a refund. Did AEG refund everybody who bought a ticket?

FWIW, I'm not sure how truthful this report is, but Roger is claiming that the Jackson family is behind the leaking of the emails from Randy Phillips & Co. to the press hmmm

Brett, who was still hoping to bring them together for a record deal, finally arranged for a representative from Michael’s office to send a formal letter to Lisa stating that Michael was still interested in keeping things going. At the same time, Prince also began pursuing Lisa to sign a recording contract.

Lisa celebrated her twenty-fifth birthday with a huge party, planned by Priscilla, at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Prince was among the guests, along with a sprinkling of celebrity Scientologists such as Kirstie Alley, Nicole Kidman, and Juliette Lewis. Lisa invited Michael Jackson as her special guest, “and he would have loved to have gone,” said Brett, “but he had other things.” Brett suggested to Michael that he should at least send Lisa a birthday gift, “so he told me, ‘Well you go get it!’ ” Brett selected, as Michael’s gift to Lisa, an art book on Michelangelo and a silver picture frame in which he placed a photograph of Michael and Lisa’s original meeting in his living room. Brett, attempting to be gallant on Michael’s behalf, wrote sweet birthday inscriptions in the art book and on the birthday card, making them appear to be from Michael. “I was just trying to be a good friend for him,” said Brett. “I went to the party with my son Jason, and when I got there, Lisa was like, ‘Oh! Where’s Michael? I hope it’s all right that Prince is here.’ I said, ‘Michael just couldn’t make it, but here is a gift from him.’ And I didn’t say anything [else].” Lisa, he recalled, “latched onto the gifts excitedly and immediately opened them to check them out.” / Child Bride magazine 93.

I misquoted the article, it was a while ago I read it. But there you go.

Smh @ Sony

This article now makes it perfectly clear that this man WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE to being ready to perform practically 50 non-stop concert dates. So what Randy Philips, Kenny Ortega and all those AEG people were stating after MJ's death that 'he was 100%' was basically a lie then?

Dude, no-one should need an article to tell them he was unfit to do those shows. People like me were saying it loud and strong at the time. It was plain to see. MJ's nutjob fans couldn't see it because their heads were buried in the sand as always.

This might have been posted before but I didn't know that Michael wanted to sign Lauryn Hill!

Interview with Jerry Gree... + Fashion

Interview with Jerry Greenberg, Aug 9 2010

What was Michael like as a person?

Wonderful. He was an incredible human being. The kindest, nicest, most wonderful guy I’ve ever met. He was really a God gifted entertainer.

I heard that he was brilliant in that regard.

He was a perfectionist. He had perfect pitch, which the only other person I know who had that was Roberta Flack. He would record a vocal track ten times to make sure it was absolutely correct. He had such a good sense about music. I wasn’t with the company for more than two weeks and he called me up in the middle of the night and said, “Jerry did you see Sister Act 2?” I said, “No”. He said, “There’s a girl in the movie that you have to see.” It was the lead singer of the Fugees, Lauryn Hill. He said, “I want to sign her.” I knew who managed the group so I called him and said, “Michael, I found out she is in a group called The Fugees, but I spoke to their manager and if the first record doesn’t happen I think she would love to do a solo record with us.” Obviously, the first record happened and we never got her, but it shows you that Michael can spot talent and what his gut instinct was. She turned out to be a big star. I had a great time working with Michael and when I look back at my career and I think about all the artists that I worked with at Atlantic and then Michael for ten years. That was a treat. I’d wake up and say, “You’re really paying me to do this?”

Spike Lee: MJ biopic impossible

Spike Lee has said he could never make a biopic about Michael Jackson because there isn't an actor who could play him.

The director premiered his documentary film Bad 25, about the making of the 1987 hit album Bad, in the UK at the weekend and revealed despite being a huge fan of the late singer, he couldn't make a film about his life.

Spike said: "For me - who would play him? I can't do it, maybe someone else will, but for me I can't do it.

"It's easier to do a biopic of someone who's not so recognisable. Michael Jackson is one of the most recognisable people on this planet and who is going to play him?! I can't do it."

The Inside Man director - who worked with Michael on the music video for They Don't Care About Us - was delighted to have full access to the Michael Jackson archive for the new documentary.

He said: "There's stuff there the world has never seen. And a lot of that stuff Michael shot himself.

So whenever I was in the edit room and I was seeing stuff for the first time it was amazing, because we didn't know this stuff existed."

Spike also revealed that when Michael Jackson rang him up to ask him to direct a music video for him, he hung up on him twice because he didn't believe it was him.

He said: "Third time he said 'Spike don't hang up the phone! It's me!'."

The film will be released on DVD as part of the Bad 25 deluxe album package on September 17.

By the way there's about 5 minutes of Bad 25 just talking about the "rivalry" with Prince at the time. No surprise that Nelson George was a contributer and egged on the comparisons but mainly the point was that both were at the top of their game in 1987.

At the end Spike Lee was asked why they spent so much time talking about Prince without him being interviewed. He said that he called Prince but he said no mad Unsurprising. Miserable bugger.

Like you, I'm not surprised but damn, P can be such an asshole at times. disbelief

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
