Bad definetly is his most funk-based album. expecially between the title track, Smooth Criminal, Streetwalker, and (somewhat) Another Part Of Me

I might give that title to Off The Wall, but the Bad album was definitely very funk influenced.

Off The Wall was more disco than anything else

I'd say the funk influences were equal on that album. Workin' Day and Night is one of Mike's hardest funk esque tracks.

Grading Michael Jackson - BAD Tour 88

My first real grading job was on the Michael Jackson Bad tour in 1988, directed by Patrick Kelly. I was an assistant telecine operator at Visions, located in Soho, London. As an assistant I laced the film, loaded the film cleaner and pressed REC on the 1” VTR. I spent the time in between these duties and lots of my own time observing and learning the nuances of the industry. Visions had 2 senior telecine ops Mark Baugh and Luke Rainey who were both particularly knowledgeable and were an invaluable part of my education. Just watching them grade then asking questions at the right moment was a great way to learn.

The concert was shot on a mixture of 35mm and 16mm film, it seemed at times they were shooting film for fun! The crew filmed 2 nights out of the 5 Wembley stadium gigs, film was also fed from the earlier tour legs in Australia, Japan, and Europe. As an accompanying piece to the concert, an “on the road” documentary was also filmed at the same time. The concert was cut in a 4 machine 1” online edit suit, not offlined. This was before Avid of FCP offline so the alternative would have been a lowband umatic or ¾ edit. As soon as the film came in from the lab we would be transferring it, feeding the footage on to 2 hungry edit suites.

.....

.....

The single “Another part of me” was cut from some of my early telecine work. The music video was cut from footage shot in London and Paris, that shows you how tight Jackson’s performance was. As far as I know the complete concert and documentary has never been released. A disappointing waste as the film managed to capture Jackson at his peak. Jackson never came into Visions during the project but Frank Dileo, his cigar smoking manager, visited a couple of times.

You know, I think I enjoy BAD's off-cuts more than the stuff on the actual album. Cheater, Fly Away and Streetwalker all rate up there in my favourite Mj tracks. I want an album full of this stuff rather than the same crappy remixes we got on Thriller25. Seriously, what a waste of disc space!

I think Mike was in a "creative zone" during the BAD era. I'll guess Buffalo Bill and Tomboy are among his best stuff left in the vault.

I loooove those!!! I'm glad Street Walker was in the MJ Experience game, it's the easiest dance for me!!! But yeah, I couldn't stop playing Cheater for months when Ultimate Collection came out, and I played it yesterday after so long

I remember the time when Black or White came out, and vaguely Give In To Me.

I remember the Oprah interview airing, but was just in the area, not really paying attention, cause I was more amused with his speaking voice being that different from his singing voice lol and I don't remember seeing Give In To Me at all then.

^ I agree. That BAD Afrojack remix is garbage. I remember liking the Ben Liebrand remixes (Bad, and Liberian Girl) Haven't listed to those in a long time though..

There was a Bad dance remix that was released I think on the Bad single? It had MJ saying "Break it down Bruce" I LOVED that remix. That was funky.

I also heard remixes of Bad and Blame It On The Boogie together (Oprah '93 special). Those two songs mix well together because of the funk.

That Bad single remix is awesome, the maxi single has two versions, one of which has a false fade in between before starting up again! The other one is a shorter version of that, which I used for a Bad performance once, by ending it with a breakdown of different mj moves from all over!

Michael's note for lisa presley , lisa speak about this in twitter.... "TURD" lol

EXCLUSIVE
0529_lisa_marie_presley_michael_jackson_getty
A letter Michael Jackson wrote to Lisa Marie Presley -- complaining about the problem that ultimately killed the singer -- has been yanked from the auction block after Lisa Marie pitched a fit.

Lisa Marie has not said why she wanted the letter pulled, but it's pretty clear -- Michael struggled with sleep deprivation for years until he found a quick fix in the form of Propofol.

The letter -- written sometime between 1993 and 1996, reads as follows: "Smell here [arrow with box] Lisa I truly need this rest I haven't slept litterally [sic] in 4 days now. I need to be away from phones and Business people. I must take care of my health first Im' [sic] crazy for you Love Turd."

As TMZ first reported, Jackson was doctor shopping for Propofol before he hooked up with Conrad Murray.

So Julien's Auction in Beverly Hills -- the same company selling off Elvis' crypt -- has capitulated to Elvis' daughter. Owner Darren Julien tells TMZ, "I'm assuming it's a personal nature, and we wanted to honor the request and continue our good relationship with Ms. Presley."

We can read between the lines.

Yes, that is the remix I am talking about. I now remember the fade out! And I do remember a Bad remix that sounded like it had xylophones playing in it... Might have been the Liebrand remix... Or the Bad single remix. I forget. Like I said, been a long time since I listened to those. But those BAD remixes were FIRE.

Anybody know who did the dance remix on the original BAD single? Was that Bruce Swedien? If so, that's who should be working on these remixes. Not these other "DJ's"

So as it turns out, the version of "Don't Be Messin' Around" we're getting actually ISN'T from the Bad era. I'm guessing Michael wrote the song originally in the Bad era. But.... the track has writing/production credits for Brad Buxer and Michael Durham Prince. Brad didn't start working with MJ until 1989 and MDP in 1990, I think. Still amped to hear it though smile

I don't know that one, got a link?

You would love the Tag Team mix of Bad, it's on youtube somewhere. I went nuts for it.

Another good one is a fan-made bhangra one, but I lost it years ago

It must be the Ben Liebrand remix to BAD. I don't have access to YouTube right now (at work) but the Liebrand remixes are actually really good. There is also a Liberian Girl remix out there as well.

Lisa bitched about alot of stuff over the years but to be honest she was bitter and she revealed that in her interview with Ofah. She wanted to be with Michael and was just angry because it didnt work out. I highly doubt Michael made her dress a certain way but I just think when she was with her her state of mind was just different. Also, Michael even said Lisa wrote letters even AFTER 1999 begging to get back with him but he said his heart had closed... I dont blame him.. She talk a whole lot of shit on national t.v. but secretly wants to get back with him nuts

I agree with this. Alot of his cuts that didnt make it are exactly better even though I really enjoy all his music... songs like Serious Effect, Slave To The Rhythm, Fly Away, Cheater etc not sure how they didnt make them.. Fly Away Michaels vocals are so beautiful on there and there is no denying he is one of the greatest singers ever

She definitely had a style change when she was married to Michael. Her dress, hair and makeup--her overall look became more glamorous, softer and feminine. Here's what she looked like pre-MJ:

I like a pair of Lisa and Michael.
Lisa had her best form ever in this period, she looked gooooood, and this is the only MJ relationship with a woman, which I believe was real.
