MADONNA-M.I.A.'s Middle Finger Stunt Was Stupid and Childish

0210_madonna_mia_audio_BN
Madonna
is lashing out at M.I.A.'s bird-flipping grab for attention during the Super Bowl Halftime show last weekend -- claiming the crude gesture was a "teenager ... irrelevant thing to do."

Madonna called in to "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" this morning -- saying, "I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it."

Madonna told Ryan, "I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity, it seemed negative. It’s such a teenager ... irrelevant thing to do ... there was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point?"

Madge added, "It was just out of place."

update_bar
Madonna just called in to Carson Daly too, saying M.I.A. has since apologized to her over the incident.

Nobody gives a shit about it.

The news outlets are reporting on it because they have airtime to fill and, in the moments that must be eaten up before the ad breaks, this can plausibly serve as a Big Thing that people somewhere are probably saying people somewhere else might give a shit about.

The football and broadcasting authorities are dutifully going through the motions of giving the obligatory "shocked and disappointed" response they're expected to give, just in case it is indeed true that some people somewhere actually give a shit about it.

Madonna's making the prudent move of throwing her guest star under the bus for making a gesture that naturally fitted the lyric, and is more or less consistent with said co-star's 'edgy' brand in the pop marketplace (a sense of youthful 'edginess' that, of course, any 53-year-old pop star whose own brand has largely been built on 'reinvention' and the ability to stay 'relevant' wants a whiff of; hence the reason she brought the young bird-flipper on board in the first place, presumably). But, unless she's believing her own PR and is quietly distraught that this totally unplanned gesture may have seriously dented prospects for achieving the state of world peace that seemed a dead cert last Sunday, I'd very much doubt she's genuinely buying the idea that anyone, anywhere really gives a shit.

Because, truthfully, nobody anywhere remotely gives even the first pelvic squeeze of a shit. shrug

Right.

The fact that Madonna even acknowledge that shit... is tacky to me.. Like you over their doing crotch showing kart wheels and someone gives the bird and NO ONE saw it.. and you calling an overly sex performance peaceful... please Madonna SIT DOWN...

Sorry but i dont buy the whole "race" card issue, YES, its a double standard, but you cant tell me that if Madonna stuck her middle finger up in the camera people would have looked the other way? I mean really? Oasis did shit like this on the MTV awards about 15-17 years ago, and got banned, Adnrew Dice CLay cursed and did whatever got booted off two different shows and blacklisted by a whole network, now Chris Rock went out there and trashed everyone and no one blinked an eye, yet no one was saying, oh well Dice got banned because he was Jewish, Dice got banned because people thought he was sexist and pulled out of the network, SO YES race does play a part in these things AT TIMES, but CASH and the bottom line wipe out all race, GREEN is the color that matters people not black white and brown and yellow.

I wonder what people are saying now that Madonna has gone on the record to say it was stupid for Maya to do what she did and going "but didn't you kiss Britney Spears at the MTV Awards? Didn't you simulate masturbation on one of your tours? Didn't you kiss and fuck everyone on that 'Justify My Love' video? And you flipped the bird at Live Earth? But this is stupid and childish?" lol

Well she wanted to bring attention to herself and the song and she got it... wonder how long it'll last.

Since when did Madonna turn into a conservative cunt? We always knew she was a cunt, but a conservative one?

I think it's pretty lame of Madonna for calling MIA out for the middle finger gesture. First of all, MIA makes the gesture in the video, so Madonna can hardly be surprised that she integrated it into a performance. Second, Madonna is no stranger to stunt queen moves during performances. Finally, Madonna should be standing up for performers who push the envelope considering she's made a career out of doing it.

That's what she gets for putting M.I.A up there. She knew who she was performing with. That's the chance you take. If she wanted a safe, clean show she could've gotten someone else. Don't complain now. Too late. confused

lol It's kinda like when Richard Pryor got mad at Eddie Murphy for doing basically what he was doing in the '70s (though Eddie turned it into Bill Cosby being the one chastisting him in "Raw"). I could see if it was someone like Diana Ross criticizing someone for flipping the bird during their performance, but Madonna has done everything M.I.A. has done and then some.

I don't think it's just because she's older now, it's just that if it had been her doing it, she'd been defending why she did it. Like when she defend her kissing Britney and Christina denouncing people calling it a stunt because American Life was not doing anything up-to-par.
