what pisses me off is that many haters don't wanna accept that Madonna is basically a songwriter , a guitar player (at least since the late-90s), and an excellent co-producer...

And she totally knows how to market herself

But it was my understanding that she writes with other people and does a lot of "I like that sound", "I want it to sound like this", "no, lets not use that" kind of stuff in regards to production.

Yes I would, like I said even she is very humble about it but I mean she does well to play some of her songs live

the problem with many people here is that they are used to the Prince formula: a guy who writes the lyrics, and then composes/arranges/performs/produces the music...

but that's not the norm, that's the exception

Mick Jagger is one of the best songwriters of all time, for example, and he's just a "decent" piano/guitar player (his own words). Mick needs Keith, just as Madonna needs her producers/studio musicians...
