Basically. Madonna wouldn't act like a little 5 year old with a temper tantrum.

I'm curious as to why you would make the comparison if you aren't even a Madonna fan?

Madonna was devastated about the public reaction to Erotica.

In fact, Erotica was just one thing in a list of things that served to DESTROY Madonna's public image. Truth Or Dare, Erotica, SEX, and Body of Evidence all came out within the same 2 year period. They all received LOTS of negative attention.

Why do you think Bedtime Stories had a softer image than Erotica? Why do you think that after Erotica, she changed her entire fucking deal? She focused on being a potential mother, toning down her look, and doing major damage control from having her snatch draped across every TV and young boy's lap across America.

Her PUBLIC reaction was minimal because - she hardly did any interviews. What interview of the time do you remember? The Letterman one where she rattled off "fuck" 2 dozen times? And by the way, she was pretty butthurt about that, too.

Regardless, to think that Madonna hasn't had articles written in ways to make her look stupid is inconceivable to me. This guy, writing this NME article, is a fucking douche. It doesn't matter how strong you are, bullying a girl to tears is ridiculous. We don't know the context of all this stuff, how it was delivered, etc. We read it on paper, which is much less impactful.

Gaga, while an emotional person, simply seems to be REALLY INTO THE MUSIC SHE MAKES. I mean REALLY into it. And that's fantastic because people in that situation either make really good music or really confusing music (see Prince, Trent Reznor, and other emotional performers).

Edit: All of this notwithstanding, Gaga is about 10 yrs younger than Madonna was between Erotica and Born this Way. It would be more realistic to compare the reaction from Born This Way to True Blue..... And if you can't see True Blue has some stinkers on it (as well as a clunky, badly written song about pregnancy/abortion).... then... IDK.

She can boo hoo all she wants the truth of the matter is that part of that song sounds very similar to Express Yourself. It's not as Express Yourself was some obscure ass song either. I know she's very aware of that song as is everybody else so she can stop it with that fucking sob ass story. She goes out there and talks shit about how's she the best thing in the business, dissing other performers, trying to piss off Christians, rant about how great and talented she is and then when she's hit with some criticism she goes off to the corner and cries. This is the path she chose for herself and she's a big celebrity now. She's also an adult as well. Not everyone is going to kiss your ass everytime you do something especially when you are where she is. Get used to it.

Actually, something bothers me about her statement.

She says that it uses the same progression that's been used in disco music for the last 50 years...but disco music came out around the mid to late 70s right? It's the 2010s. She also said that she's the first one to use it in the last 25 years...that's about as long as she's been alive. So you are going to tell me that no one's used that progression since she's been alive? Not even Madonna's 'Express Yourself' which was released in 1988, which was 23 years ago?!

Wtf?

i feel like she is overrated, and truely people will get tired of her gimmicks, so she better bring with the music.. or she will be disposable.

i remember during the 90s, you could have a hit album, be big for a couple of years, flop and fall off the face of the earth..

now we have the internet, so once you get big, then flop, you wont fall off the earth, but you will have people constantly talking about your flops for years...

look at ciara, people would have forgot about her if it weren't for the internet gossip.

Disco's inception was in the 60s. Regardless, you're taking her words out of context. The hostile interviewer and her caustic response leaves a pretty clear picture. She acknowledged its the same chord progression that's commonly used in disco music and she, ostensibly, is the only person to use the progression SINCE Express Yourself. She's being sarcastic/exaggerating because the interviewer is a dickhead.

She has also responded to interviewers asking her what she likes in men by saying huge dicks. You can't take it incredibly serious.

You know what. She's still in her 20's, she writes her own music, she's a hell of a talent (and yes, I say this with no sense of irony).

She's doing good.

And yes, the media and people are going to want to see her fail.

And maybe she won't enjoy a huge fan base forever.

But I can tell you one thing, her reach is already entrenched.

I'm on the other side of the planet right now. Here in Thailand you can not

find a Prince album in any store. People know who Madonna is, but

couldn't tell you much about some of her more recent songs.

But, everybody knows who lady Gaga is. She's one of the few western acts

who can compete against Korean acts.

There are 2 billion people in this corner of the planet, and I venture to say

a larger percentage of them know who she is than most western acts.

She's made an impact. Like her or hate her, she's here to stay.

She's already got a loyal fanbase larger than most. Her new album

will arrive with great fanfare...it's already been part of the buzz for months.

She's talented and innovative yes, but she still just CO-WRITES her music. Jesus christ lol Most pop stars do this. I admit she probably has more input then her contemporaries but she hasn't written any song alone yet. She had no songwriting input into "just dance" or "paparazzi" (which is just as well, as both songs are average to me). It's great that she co-writes and all, but lets not get carried away here.

As for the interview, maybe she was just having a bad day. The whole "god sent it to me" rubbish is something us some of us brits (and no doubt some americans) do snigger at though. It's so cheesy

I remember when Michael Jackson use to say about songwriting that "god gave it to me". I feel shortchanged when artists (often American ones) do this. It reveals nothing about the real creative process. If a song comes into their head all at once (which Jackson has stated has happened in the past), then just say that. It may be rather ordinary, but don't dress it up by bringing God into it LOL.

But look at how many people she co-writes with .. no more than TWO people while other artists have 6 and 7 people .. She has written songs solely by herself also (Speechless, You and I, Living on the Radio)

Is it just me, or does Gaga seem a little..."off?" She always seems to have this spaced-out affect, like she's teetering on the edge of some psychological... um... event. confuse And I can totally see pressure like this -- which is gonna be consistent given her style, audience and preferred subject matter -- eventually unraveling her.

It's too bad, too, because while I'm not yet impressed by her, I can recognize her real talent and potential. I hope we do see her mature.

As fielding this line of questioning goes, I think she dropped the ball here. She took up the same topic on Leno recently (I think it was Leno. confuse ), and she handled it much better: She simply acknowledged being a huge Madonna fan (which to me was a smart concession that, yes, maybe there was at least some untintentional influence on Born This Way), and that she actually had spoken to Madonna and found out that Madge totally digs the song! Her quote was something to the effect of "If the queen says it's OK, then it's OK." I thought that was perfect.
