Ugh, another album with a backronym for a title! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I'm curious to hear this album. I like the cover a lot. I'm guessing it probably sounds like all the other electro pop records out now. So weird how all the r&b artists have turned electro pop.

MYA's best stuff has been dance, over the last 2 records the stuff that has worked has been the "disco" like stuff, and im glad for the best part what i have heard so far she has shyed away from the american rb type stuff, though the inlfuence is there, its a breath of fresh air to hear MYA not paired up with the token rapper of the month by her label, which is why this is strictly for Japan, she is going to distribute 2 records here this year under her own label, people dont realize MYA not only has a label of her own started, but invested in her studio and a dance school in DC that she built ground up. SO if people are looking for sales, SHIT havent we all had this discussion about everyone over and over and over, folks the 90's are over, get in touch with the reality that nothing sells anymore, stop dreaming.
But my only complaint with this record is the cutting of the track "DASH" an acoustic breezy jazz like ballad that blows everything away that any neo soul chick has done in ages, but i guess that kind of song wouldnt be good overseas, and they are saving it for her american releases later this year. But from the 6 tracks i have heard, "Fabolous Life" is a great track, would be a great video and we know she dances better than anyone, SORRY but she does. Who is Mya working with on this album? I always thought she had a pretty voice. "Free" and "Best of Me" were my jams.

I do think this sound works quite well for her voice. Have you heard the whole album? Is the general vibe upbeat electro pop?

what i heard is a mixture but production wise its much better, its a bit more raw sounding and dance stuff is a bit more stripped down, and clubby, not really euro but i guess in a way it is, its just a really better fit for her, even the RB stuff i have heard i have liked the title track is a hot uptempo ballad like song, strong production and what i realize on this song is that MYA can sing, i mean she isnt Aretha but people tend to just think that female singers all have to have "blow u off the couch" voices while males dont have too, MYA actually has a unique sounding voice and hits some very interesting notes on that title track. I think to just dismiss her is a mistake, im not saying she is the artist of all time, but she is doing her own thing and isnt that what we "champion" on this site??going it alone, not caring about charts? "Rear View Mirror"
I'm not sure about this one yet. Sean Paul, like Lil Wayne and Drake, ruins everything for me.

I've always liked Mya. I'm glad to see she's coming back out with more music.
My favorite song by her is probably "It's All About Me" .
Oldie, but a goodie. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

No voice. Check. Featured rapper. Check. Autotune to cover up crappy voice. Check. Another flop. Check. Over and out. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I listened to the album and it's pretty good. People have to keep in mind that this album was aimed for the Japanese market. And since she did that, I thought that she should've learned a little Japanese and used some Japanese lyrics in the songs.

my thread did better than this album will do on the charts "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Do u have any info on who she worked with (producers, musicians, guests)?

I know that she worked with Chuck Harmony who produced Pretty Girl Rock and a few Japanese producers. Sean Paul, Marques Houston (ew), and Iyaz are featured.

Thanks Layzie I was kinda hoping she wouldn't go down familiar alleys and if it was a Japanese targeted project I thought maybe she'd work with a few of those cats. I've always had a thing for shinici osawa and towa tei... i bet the tracks with japanese producers are hella interesting.

I like the album overall, some mistakes i think are within but what is better is that the better cuts are not just good they are very very good, especially the title track, to me that is MYA's best song, should be a single overseas would be a great video, and one of the most well written songs of hers, shows alot of growth, and the difference between the 19 year old Mya and the 31 year old MYA.
I think it should be noted though, i think she leaned more towards the japanese market on the last record, these songs are very appealing worldwide, a few more euro sounding, but very universal in theme overall. I think someone like AMERIE would be more inclined to work with Japanese and Korean Producers and work the launguage in (which she has on her next album) being she is 75% korean. Somehow Mya has always interested me far more than any of her music has. The only thing of hers I've much noticed is "Fallen." Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Ameriie's father is African American and her mother is Korean, so she's 50% Korean "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

She's of African-American and Italian descent.

I've always liked Mya. I thought she could do more focusing on her dancing. She has the move, I think she just lacked charisma. Her second album wasn't that bad.
