Is Janet Jackson Discipline really her worse album?

I don't think it's that bad like people make it seem , some tracks are underrated imo.

It's either that or 20 YO. Both were trash.

No way. Dream Street is by far her worst.

Nah...it's this one:

Discipline was an admirable record with some great cuts, but you can tell her heart wasn't really in it. The uptempo cuts were some of her best ones in a while, but the ballads (excluding the underrated "This Can't B Good") were just fluff. It wasn't a great album, but a decent one at best. 20 Y.O. was a better effort!

It is! Like her debut, it was really just an excuse for Janet to try her hand in music, but at least the debut had some charm and used second-rate songs instead of the fourth-rate songs of Dream Street.

I agree with just about all of this!

Discipline definitely had a bunch of strong uptempo tracks, where 20 Y.O. excelled with its slow tracks. I like both, although I recognize that they aren't up there with her best work.

Dream Street was the worst.

Her debut even edges Dream Street and Discipline out, in my opinion. Her pre-Control stuff was a move for her to get her foot running in the music game, but that first album had some cuts on it which makes it memorable. Dream Street was just...yawn

I wasn't insinuating it was her best. I just disagreed it wasn't her worst.

Discipline is the worst followed by 20 YO, followed by Dreamstreet.

Her debut is a lot better than people think. It's underrated.

I kind of like her debut, too. nod

I'd rank and rate her albums this way:

1. Rhythm Nation 1814: 5 stars

2. All for You: 5 stars (I know this is an unpopular pick)

3. The Velvet Rope: 5 stars

4. Control: 4.5 stars

5. janet.: 4 stars

6. 20 Y.O.: 4 stars

7. Discipline: 4 stars

8. Damita Jo: 3.5 stars

9. Janet Jackson: 2.5 stars

10. Dream Street: 1 star lol

Which album has You Can't Stand Another Chance or whatever it's called? Dare I say that's one of my all time favs from her?

20 Y.O. is Janet's worst album ever. Aside from Enjoy and Love 2 Love that album is just.... disbelief

Discipline isn't that bad, though. Feedback is still the shit. Can't B Good and So Much Betta are cute too. Everything else is mediocre.

EDIT - How could I forget those atrocious ballads Never Letcha Go and Greatest X ill and Discipline confused "Daddy make me cry"

But I think Can't B Good and What's Ur Name are OK. Still forgettable, though. The same can be said for the other uptempos.

I didn't like anything on Discipline. AT LEAST I enjoyed Enjoy on 20 YO. That's why it's a step above.

What can I say? I'm a big Janet fan. lol I'm sure I overrate a lot of her work, but hey - it's Janet. biggrin

Looking at it, though, I think those are fair ratings for my taste - take from that what you will!

From 20 Y.O., I really, really love "With U", "Enjoy", "Take Care" and "Sho Me", and I also quite like "Do It 2 Me", "Love 2 Love" and "Daybreak". The only track I dislike on it is "This Body".

From Discipline, I adore "Feedback", "Rock With U" and "2Nite" and quite like "So Much Betta", "Luv", "What's Ur Name" and "Let Me Know". "The Greatest Ex" is embarrassing, but again, I really like the album.

I find I'm more willing to put up with lesser work from my favorites. lol

Are you kidding me? It's the best or second best of the 00's from her catalogue. It has a lot of underrated cuts. I guess some of the ballads and uptempos have to grow on you, but they are really pretty. Maybe her vocals are lazy on some of the songs though, but they sound pretty too at the same time.
