I don't get why people keep defending Rick James in here.

He started out as a mediocre funk artist, getting even more mediocre by releasing shallow disco-funk.

And that Teena Marie girl presented by him was just as mediocre.

Oh, and don't forget Rick James did get put in jail because he and his wife abducted another women, tied her up inside their house, and sexually abused her.

No strong music, no strong character.

Teena Marie was just delivering slick discofunk...nothing really soullfull, sincere.

. Id smack the S#$% out of u for uttering that bs but I might hurt my hand....so smack the S$%& out of yourself!!!

I think there maybe some issues of the age and what was played on the radio as "our" constant reminder of their talents or what the media wished us to believe as music stars. At which, some will say, the payola was the real reason. Can't debate that, for I am not into the music business and know about a tad of this payola stuff.

I think, also the Motown issues with her being signed also made some impact, for many people thought that of a higher ground with her music talents and abilities.

your points with R.James is valid, for I remember the sightings of them going to court, and the tv media following it.

The idiot that posted this thread may have done this before under

a different name. I remember reading a similar post before on Rick

being overrated and Teena as such. Just an attention whore who is

looking to start shit.

It sounds like riverpoet to me. I could be wrong but it sounds just like him. I've gotten into it with him several times before. He knows I love Rick James and he also knows I love disco which are two things he hates. If it is riverpoet, that is why he continuously calls Rick James disco and with Teena Marie being a former member of the Rick James camp, that's why he's placing the disco label on her also (as if that's a bad thing, hell that's a fucking compliment as far as I'm concerned). What really makes me think it is him, is he made a comment in the other thread about Cameo being disco also. Riverpoet did that once before when we got into it.

I think it may be him though. Apparently he just loves to stir up shit. He did the same exact thing when Michael Jackson died also. Watch out though, when he gets his back up against the wall in a corner, he'll come out spurting racial shit.

Yeah, I started to think that was RiverPoet as well. I remember him. Just a totally rude, disrespectful, nasty person in general. disbelief

I will just comment on one part of your post...

Rick, did not "start out", as a funk artist. He in fact, started out years before in a group called the "Myna Byrds". Ths group also featured a cat named, Neal Young. Also Rick, is the only artist that I can think of, who created his OWN genre of music....That be it, Punk Funk. Before Rick, this music was unheard of and this is still the case, years after his death. As for Teena, she had a style all her own, a great talent and will be greatly missed.

Wasn't Prince influence by rick James? Infact the first time I heard and saw Prince, the first person I thought about was Rick James.

Shhh, you better hush! you know some Prince fans don't like to hear that! lol

I guess I'm one of the few who really never did like Teena Marie's music either. But I'm certainly not going to post a thread right after she died ranting about it.

As with Rick, I don't like Teena's ballads (with the exception of "Portuguese Love" and maybe a few others -- depending on mood). Those are overwrought with emotion, but their uptempo funk: "Super Freak", "Square Biz", "You & I", "Behind The Groove" discotize if you will, is top-drawer stuff you build a career on. Make no mistake, I absolutely loathe "Fire and Desire".

For the record: I can't stand most of Prince's ballads either!
