I like it too. Wasn't it Debra Winger's first movie?

Yep,Debra Winger was in 'Thank God It's Friday' lol I like TGIF.It's a fun, enjoyable movie that gives you a lighthearted look at the disco era.I admit that some of the humor doesn't work, but there are enough funny scenes to keep you entertained.Alot of great music throughout too.Donna Summer and The Commodores made it all worth seeing, imo.

That movie & "Car Wash" gave birth to many well known names in Hollywood.

The All Saints were in a film called Honest, it was directed by the former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart. I haven't seen it, but it's gotta be pretty naff.

I spent 90% of this movie trying to figure out what made Bjork do it:

It aired on TCM earlier this year, which was a mouth-dropper moment. All I can say is that it's great 70's cheese. Just for all the reasons already mentioned, and I love that it opens with the theme song. If you are interested, you can view it on Netflix website.

As for worse musical, I would give it to Moulin Rouge. I remember leaving the movie theater wondering if I had missed something and what was the big deal? It got rave reviews back then.

I don't know about the "rough" version, but Moulin Rouge was a pretty cool movie!

I would nominate;

- Grease 2

- Xanadu

- anything Disney-related

- and (sadly) Graffiti Bridge if you don't count its fan-based cult value

Its more 3/10 rather than 0/10, Cherry at least has great music and although the acting is not very proficent, theres a few laughs at least, Prince and Jerome come across as being on the down low rather than chasing the ladies.

Compared to The Apple, Glitter, Cross Roads, Xanadu and Graffiti Bridge, Under the cherry moon is at least at the level of "This is Spinal Tap"

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I don't think this movie is nearly as terrible as the critics said it was lol It has some truly funny moments and the music is good.I could never understand why the critics were so cruel.

I feel the same way about Madonna's 'Who's That Girl',released one year later.

I like this movie lol Olivia Newton John has a screen presence that I like....very classy and pure. And sexy too! The movie has a weak storyline but the musical sequences are alot of fun, especially "Suddenly" and "All Over The World".I think the music saves this film.

Amazing how no one mentioned "HArd to Hold" starring Rick SPringfield from 1984, though the movie was trashed by critics, it grossed overall 11 million and the soundtrack was amazing, scored 4 hits for rick and had songs from Graham Parker, Randy Crawford, and also Peter GAbriel. plus the soundtrack sold about 4 million worldwide. But as Rick said, this film showed how much of a whore i am with my acting, and how great my fans are to sit through this shit.

I thought this film was werid, but not in a good way (I loved Dancer In The Dark and few movies are stranger than that one). It felt like a darker version of a combo of Lakawana Blues and The Cotton Club to me.I guess I expected something different than what I got.

My nomination for worst (or perhaps strangest) musical film would be 200 Motels....Frank Zappa, Ringo, etc. I think you have had to be there and/or super stoned to get it. The film actually gave me a headache! lol

I forgot about Niecy, "The Footlose Cruse"

At least Neil Diamond's one and only blackface scene in an all black nightclub was funny as hell, especially the riot that happen after he got busted. lol

But with Al Jolson, him and the Warner Brothers deserved some kicks in the nuts! disbelief

LOL at Al Jolson. You know that film was made in the 1920's don't you LOL. I know you know this as you always bitch about old Hollywood. Anyway, "The Jazz singer" was the first film to use sound so it has it's history. Other then that Iam not interested in it.

This movie came out around the same as 'Purple Rain' and it was interesting to see Prince succeed in a film while Rick (who actually has acting credentials) flopped big time lol 'Hard To Hold' is a boring, ridiculous film but I do like one song on the soundtrack,"Bop Til You Drop",the funkiest, catchiest single that Rick has ever done.

I don't give a damn if The Jazz Singer was made BEFORE the invention of the light blub. rolleyes

Blackfaces is controversial, without question. But context can make the situation far worse. And watching Al Jolson singing Mammy while wearing a blackface does make that situation worse. And I still believe he should've been kick in the nuts for that bullshit. lol

nod That's why she was at the Oscars oneyear wearing that crazy swan dress. The film Dancer In the Dark was directed by Lars Van Tier and all of his films are very off kilter and weird, but I like them for that reason. cool
