Who's Tame?

But I agree with the rest, what makes it worse with MJ Fans is that they get more attention than most fanbases. I've lost count of the documentaries that involve MJ fans, and they always use the loudest, dumbest fans because they are more fun to watch. It's just not a true reflection of most MJ fans.

I think because I've been around it for so long (The fams on the Org and Housequake, the stans on MJJC and KOP) that I tend to naturally weed out the craziness now, which is probably I don't think neither fanbase isn't as crazy as people say lol

I'd have to say right now the Christina fans. Although they're starting to acknowledge how terrible this era is and have been taken down a notch so they're not quite so bad anymore. I've never noticed Janet fans to be that bad except for one particular fan on this site. I can understand people saying the MJ fans. Especially when they're newbie fans. The current wave after his death are the WORST. I remember the days when I was a crazy newbie fan, the extreme of delusional, they think they know it all and they really know nothing. I'm even starting to hate those fans myself and I am an MJ stan.

Goodness I hated his new fans last year .. they get on my nerves , and I hate the old ones too LOL.

I love Lady Gaga as well but her fanbase is insane too , Beyonce Fans I don't like either. All the hype over Drake is annoying too.

confused confused What a mess, in this thread!! How abot a "Artists you like, but their anti-stans attitude turns you off"? confused The whole thread makes Janet looks like shes the guru of a scary sect...

Im a fan, close to Stan of the Jackson family, and i dont mind their fans being totally devoted and defending those artists, cause (especially Michael) they are ACTUALLY talented.. Therefore they surely deserve respect and admiration... Being a Prince, MJ, Bob Marley, led zeppelin, Marvin, Stevie wonders stan will always turn me on, cause it shows the person has decent taste in music.. But being a Kylie, Xtina, britney or some other plastic talentless pop puppet stan, thats surely a turn off... I can apprecitae some songs from those, but wont give them the "stanable" status lol

its thats simple: i dont mind if youre stan... whose stan you are is the problem, to me cool

Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

The obvious, Prince fans and MJ fans. It's all been said.

I agree with this, both of these artists' fans are wacky. Some MJ fans are weird (enough said) and some Prince fans try to use symbols to subsitute words such as "you" "I" and "for"... rolleyes and then talk in some silly poetic voice like their beyond human, and worship Prince like he the Messiah.

I don't care for Lady Gaga but I'd pay her no nevermind if it wasn't for her fanbase. They drool and slobber all over her and generally regard her as the Second Coming of Christ, and seem to be blind to the fact that every thing she does is ripped off of performers who are much more talented than she is. Every. Single. Thing. She's a thieving hack, but all I hear from her fans is how creative and original she is. rolleyes

... confused Not surprised. People even regard as a female Prince...no disbelief

Backstreet Boys' fans. I love my Boys, and I say that without an ounce of shame. But my fellow fans? Gods, save me. Since the group has been around for such an unprecedented long run, all those little girls are now grown women. Grown women who STILL scream and cry and think they're going to grow up and marry Nick Carter. nutty Dudes, all I want to do is listen to some cheesy pop tunes written by songwriters with questionable English skills (hi, Max Martin! wave ) and have some fun with it. If I ever got the opportunity, maybe have a drink or two with the non-alcoholics in the group or something. Calm down. Please.

Those guys still have fans? Sheesh, I mean those dudes are at least in their 30s by now and broke up a long time ago. lol I too used to like them but come on, they are so late 90s, early 00s. lol wink

[Edited 6/19/10 13:55pm]

Backstreet Boys never broke up. Kevin left the group 4 years ago, but that's the extent of that. They just released their 7th studio album last fall and are in the middle of a sold out world tour. The only place they really fell off the radar was the U.S. But yeah, they're all in their 30's now. lol

Elvis and his handlers DID steal other performers' music. Quite often, in fact. But no more often than any performer of that era. Artists of all colours (though true, more often the white ones) "borrowed" riffs, lyrics and sometimes even entire songs to record and profit off themselves all the damned time. Folks are just pissed that Presley got big from doing it, is the only difference. But that's for another thread.

My point is, he actually did have a few self-penned songs in his catalogue. So to say he never wrote anything of his own is untrue.

I'm glad you realize that...most people would have gotten mad and call me a hater or a racist...

I try to be a realist when it comes to Elvis. IMO His fans give him more praise than is deserved, and his detractors criticize him more than is deserved.

Yeah, it's weird. In the States they followed the same pattern every other boyband does of being hugely popular for 2-3 years, then falling right off the charts. Normally when that happens, it happens worldwide. Somehow -and no doubt they're pretty surprised by this too -they never stopped being popular anywhere else.

The U.S. dates for this tour are in small clubs and fairgrounds. The international dates are in arenas and stadiums, and they had to actually add dates to meet the demand.

Metal fans live in their own world; believe me, I was a metal-obsessed guy in my late teens (16-18 years old) and, while I respected/ignored other genres (country, blues and african music being the exception) I was basically SICK, I mean, I NEEDED to hear guitar-oriented music; it was like "guitar, drums and bass or DIE".

Metal fans are sick, they need hard guitars and fast drums as a drug-addict needs his shit; some sick metal fans manage to find a cure (in many cases, because they find a poppy girlfriend who introduces them in the world of Michael, Prince, TLC, 80s pop or whatever) but many of them die with the illness...I mean, to listen to Slayer or metalcore bands when you're +40 years old is PATHETIC...Other fans keep listening to other guitar-oriented acts who lead them to new & less questionable possibilities, finding a cure in the process (Skid Row -> Aerosmith -> Hendrix -> Santana -> Cream -> Clapton -> Stones -> Chuck Berry, or Mötley Crüe -> Motörhead-> Ramones -> The Stooges -> Iggy Pop -> Glam Bowie, etc)

In my case, I managed to find the cure because when I was younger 11-15 I listened to a lot of pop/rock/funk acts (thanks to my sisters, god bless you) so when I was 19 I decided to go back to other sounds (on top of that, I realized how LAME late-90s and 00s metal was, so I just give up on metal...),or perhaps I never had the metal sickness, who knows...

That said, I'm gonna make a list of worthy hard-rock/metal acts that are timeless (sort of) and worthy (sort of lol) by anyone with a passing interest in general 20th century music, at least in small doses (compilations, a couple of classic albums, etc)...

random order:

Led Zeppelin (definitely the best hard-rock band of all time)

Metallica

Guns N' Roses

MC5

Maiden

Judas Priest

Dio

Celtic Frost

Sepultura

Black Sabbath & Ozzy

Deep Purple

Aerosmith

AC/DC

Van Halen

Megadeth

Def Leppard

Kiss

Motörhead

Jane's Addiction

Faith No More

Soundgarden

Alice in Chains

after that it's all fan territory, huge interest in metal or sickness, really...

Some did, when he died, i read anything between 9 and 40 of the MJ crazies took there own lives.

nice posts, not so long ago I've had this conversation at home with my 2 brothers, true metal fans, who now in their late 30s they really enjoy any other stuff apart from metal, both think there's a lot of music out there to be discovered and enjoyed, and I love that, even having different musical tastes, we all can go together to concerts and have a good time.

I just hah! at those narrows minds that one day will be wall when discover all the music they were missing...

[btw, in my opinion, Manowar fans = metal stans]

There are people like that in every fandom, but yeah, metal seems to have a lot of them.

Of course, anyone who knows even a little bit about the evolution of music would never be so ignorant as to dismiss other genres like that. They're all connected; all outgrowths of one another. No traditional rock, no metal. No rhythm and blues, no rock.
