Well it would definitely be the obvious 5, already listed here more than once.

The only thing that keeps me coming back here, is the occassional, underrated soul artist thread (ie: Jean Carn, Phyllis Hyman, Charlie Singleton) that hopefully doesn't get hijacked by someone who just wants to start shit.

I would really love to frequent a site where I could discuss many eras of R&B/Funk/Soul/, with sane, like-minded individuals, 30+, but it doesn't seem likely here.

I really don't know why I still peruse this site. I find it interesting to see what other people listen to that are Prince fans, and I stumbled upon this non-Prince forum on accident, looking for a rare Gap Band song, which lead me here through a Google search. I just turned 40 this year. I've been buying music since I was 5, from the 45, to the cassette, to the vinyl, to the 12" single, to the cd. I've been a part-time dj since the mid-80s, and come from the class of dj's where it aint about playing the latest, and the hits, but creating a vibe, and setting a mood. I was also a one-time musician that just didn't make it happen.

I simply love music.

I've never had a conversation in my lifetime equating record sales with the quality of the recording. I've never watched a music video that encouraged me to like the song, or buy the album. I never bothered with how many tickets are being sold, and who is allegedly trying to "beat" someone's record. I don't like debating which female singer is better than who, especially when they're very different in many ways. I don't understand why so many individuals can sit at a computer, and spew venom on people they have never even met, or for a silly debate about why a million-selling artist is better than another million-selling artist. Do they really think these artists give two-fucks about it? Any 8 year-old can cut and paste record sales stats, and make themselves seem intelligent, or "in the know". Something has changed. There are some individuals with serious issues, that for some reason enjoy spouting off their disdain for certain artists, for whatever reason, and then turning around and putting other artists on pedestals, also for whatever reason. It's dissapointing, because it just doesn't have to be like that.

I apologize for the novel, but this has really been bugging me for some time. Thanks for reading.

Let me say this, I'm a fan of some of the Beatles work (particularly their songwriting and creative production) but they're not the greatest thing ever in music. Beatles fan need to come off of that, seriously. They weren't the best singers, musicians, performers, their work didn't get creative until Rubber Soul.

I'm a fan of Michael Jackson's work and was a defender of his when he was alive during the trial, but there are Michael Jackson fans and then you have some who are straight obsessed with him.

Examples of what his fans do:

1. They feel as though they knew Michael better than his own family.

2. A lot of fanatics add on his family members like nieces and nephews on Myspace/facebook as if they're really their friends.

3. Whenever another musician or famous person is mentioned how knew or worked with MJ once or twice, Michael always have to be the center of the conversation, they don't know anything else about the person other than what they did with Michael.

There's more I could say but you get the point.

I don't like these artist very much but some of their fans get on my nerves:

Elvis and Tupac fans, they're dead, get over it already.

50 Cents fans who still think this guy got shot 9 times lol

Beyonce fans who think she very talented lol

No, this used to be the fun of this forum. Grown-ups discussing music. Somethings happened of late that has left most of the grown folks posting less and less. It's a shame. And thanks for sharing your comments! It's always refreshing to read a tone that doesn't include visions of someone pouting, sucking their thumb or snapping their neck. lol

Prince stans - because they refuse to acknowledge any other artists' accomplishments

50 Cent stans - because they refuse to acknowledge that dude has no talent lol

and...

MAXWELL stans! Yep. I said it. Maxwell's female fanbase is f*ckin' nuts! If you are not completely in love with him (damn the fact that you may be a heterosexual male), they will rip you apart and eat your entrails.

Definately Prince fams. Back in the early 1980s, Prince fans used to be the coolest but over the years, he has picked up a lot of fams along the way who write with those goofy ass letters and numbers (u, 2, 4, eye, b4, u're, etc.) and agree with each and every little thing he says he does no matter how silly it may be.

Interesting post. I was led to this forum in 2004 just by doing a search on The Barkays

and i registered but in between transitioning to move to another city due to job relocation

i simply forgot and really didn't start posting here until 2006. It's another orger i remember

awhile back saying he was led here by doing a search on Slave another band i dig a lot.

I like you enjoy talking about artists i grew up listening to from the 70's, 80's, and 90's

to a degree. I actually have learned something along the way from other orgers like

Funkpill turning me on to the Temps album 1990 and Timmy(walking Motown encyclopedia).

I'm pretty sure all of us have been in a heated debate or two about music but nothing to

the point of the bullshit that a handful of individuals have resorted too. Night in and night out

it's the same 2 year olds brats that obviously don't get out into the real world much. I just lump

them with the same group of internet racist cowards that love to get behind a keyboard

and say shit they wouldn't say to your face and when you consider the source, it's

certainly not hard to ignore them or move to another org forum. wink

Did I say she looks like a monkey? No, I said she looked like the actress Helena Bonham Carter made up too look like part human and part ape in a movie. And with Janet's plastic surgery and in that pic, she did to me. And I said it as a joke anyways. Now, disagree with me or say the joke wasn't funny but to continue weeks later down a path of emotional turmoil, well, it's just not healthy. The fact that you even remembered this isshh, weeks later...Well, it's disturbing and a total reflection on the topic of this thread.

And how dare you compare my joke to the casual use of the n-word and my advocacy against it on this site. I'm actually trying to make this world better. You on the other hand are trying to defend your standdom. For shame!!!

Pleaseee falloff the only one getting emotional is you and its not hard remember ish said on here. Seeing that there's a search engine on this site. Second, you posted a pic of a monkey with questions marks. You never explained that she was looking like Helena (who was protraying a monkey) either way you were saying she was looking like a monkey. So I'm asking - You don't think saying that a black woman looks like a monkey is just as offensive as calling her the n-word???

Joke? So if I said she was an n-word. Would you take that as a joke? and falloff @ that last sentence. Pffttt stfu. lol

Err I dont know if you noticed but humans tend to look very simialr to monkeys. Some even more so. George Bush looks very much like a monkey as well. Whereas Beyonce doesnt. Its not because Janet is black that she looks like one.

I'd have to say right now the Christina fans. Although they're starting to acknowledge how terrible this era is and have been taken down a notch so they're not quite so bad anymore. I've never noticed Janet fans to be that bad except for one particular fan on this site. I can understand people saying the MJ fans. Especially when they're newbie fans. The current wave after his death are the WORST. I remember the days when I was a crazy newbie fan, the extreme of delusional, they think they know it all and they really know nothing. I'm even starting to hate those fans myself and I am an MJ stan.

The only types of fans that might bother me for the worst would be Elvis stans.

Those of you over the age of 30+ (especially if you're black) will definitely know exactly how I feel. Some Elvis stans that have the audacity to hold their hero to THE highest unrealistic standard despite that fact that:

1. Elvis NEVER wrote/composed any of his own songs a day in his life.

2. Michael Jackson is THE only artist that was bigger in popularity (especially outside of USA) than Elvis in life AND death.

3. A combination of different artists such as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, & Madonna has taking down most of Elvis' career record stats a long time ago.

Yes, there are many other types of stans that are guilty for drinking too much Kool-Aid at times in any argument about there favorite artists. But none of them are exactly as deep in their own denial of their heroes' flaws such as Elvis stans.

Just saying.
