The full, 'Moonwalker' cut of 'Smooth Criminal' with the extra lyrics and the full interpretative dance breakdown part is far and away the greatest music video of all time.

Hardcover: 196 pages
Publisher: Filipacchi (October 6, 2010)
Language: English
Price: $29.95

Michael Jackson: The Making of "Thriller" is an illustrated tribute to the King of Pop and his groundbreaking music video, with never-before-seen photos of its creation. The book will feature over 200 exclusive, behind-the-scenes photographs of the artist on set during the 1983 production of the Grammy award winning video directed by John Landis.

Considered to be the most successful project of all time, "Thriller" is beloved the world over, inspiring imitation and a cult-like following of millions of fans. Documenting the creation of the most popular and iconic music video of all time, this book will celebrate the artist and his music at the top of his career.

Celebrated photographer Douglas Kirkland and journalist Nancy Griffin were the only members of the media allowed on the set of the video. The resulting photos capture Jackson both in high performance mode and relaxing on the set and depict his transformation into the characters in the video as well capturing the public and private faces of Michael Jackson.

Compelling, intimate photos of the artist will be accompanied by interviews and quotes from musicians and celebrities. With a holographic cover that transforms the artist into his zombie character, the book will be an impressive gift to be treasured by fans and music lovers everywhere.

Douglas Kirkland spent much of his career in New York City before moving to LA in the 1970s. He catapulted to fame when he first photographed Marilyn Monroe. He has also photographed behind the scenes sets of more than one hundred motion pictures, several of them legendary. Named "Photographer of the Year" by the PhotoImaging, Manufacturers, and Distributing Association, he lives in LA with his wife.

So no DVD? is this what John Landis was talking about,a book? I'm still going to buy it,I just thought that there would have been a re-release of it on DVD. hmmm

I hate to bring that up timmy but I can't believe that Wincy didn't want the song to be on the Bad album? eek I mean , can you imagine ? eek the song is SICK, especially the chorus music

If it wasn’t for MJ, we wouldn't get and see that great short film.

Shows how much he knows. I think that at a certain point Quincy lost his ear for a hit. When they were wrapping up the recording sessions for Thriller, he didn't believe that Billie Jean should be on the album.rolleyes If it were up to him, we wouldn't have never heard of BJ until the 25th anniversary re-release. lol... neutral

One thing that's hilarious about Michael is that he was terrible with dates

he filmed Smooth Criminal in early 1987. He filmed Bad, Smooth Criminal, and The Way You Make Me Feel before the album was out

I dont think that was MJ who messed the dates up because when this show first aired, it didnt have 1988 on the screen. It had 1984

when the show first aired, it had 1984 on the screen and i thought it could have been 1984 because Say Say Say was filmed on the Neverland property the year before, so i thought he went back. THEN i caught myself and said it couldnt be, because that would mean SC was written and recorded in 1984 THEN i had to look at MJs facial features to realize that it WASNT 1984. lol

nod

And Michael didn't even move to Neverland until '88

but Smooth Criminal was written and demoed back in '84/85

Dirty Diana was written in '83
Liberian Girl was written in '84
The Way You Make Me Feel (then Hot Fever), Another Part Of Me, Speed Demon, and Smooth Criminal were written and demoed in '85
Bad (originally Pee) was from '86

From the Bad/ 1985-1987 sessions, we have

Bad
The Way You Make Me Feel
Speed Demon
Liberian Girl
Just Good Friends
Another Part Of Me
Man In The Mirror
I Just Can't Stop Loving You
Dirty Diana
Smooth Criminal
Leave Me Alone
Streetwalker
Cheater
Fly Away
Bumper Snippet
We Are Here To Change The World

not sure if Scared Of The Moon belongs on the list....

and Someone Put Your Hand Out was originally from the Bad sessions, the song that inspired Black Or White is rumored to be called "Into The Groove"
Come Together was recorded in 1985, and there's a rumor that he also recorded Strawberry Fields

and the outtakes we HAVEN'T heard...
Make Or Break
Chicago 1945
Al Capone
What You Do To Me
Tomboy
The Price Of Fame
Groove Of Midnight
Crack Kills

I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting

I wanna hear the original version of Someone Put Your Hand Out. As far as Get Into The Groove/Black or White goes, isn't the vocals on BoW the original scratch vocals he did back in 1987?

I'm still waiting on that "piano driven" track called "Don't Be Messin Around" from the Thriller session to leak. That guy made it seem like it was gonna be on Thriller 25.

Only difference in Earth Song demo is the climax. Seems like the vocals are the exact same.

That's what Bruce Swedien said. Michael Boddicker, Michael's keyboardist, made it seem like Michael was starting work on it while they were busy mixing down Bad lol
He said Quincy and Michael would be in one studio but Michael was also using another room to explore his ideas. He started working with Bryan Loren in '88

Sony is releasing the first posthumous album in November. It's in the track selection process right now. So far, Lenny Kravitz said that Another Day will be on there biggrin
