Oh, and I'm assuming you mean Illinois for the Sufjan Stevens album, Dan. It appears good taste and good spelling don't always go hand in hand.

He also means "Valerie" for the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse remake. lol

Any order? And if you want, you can add "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" and have 11 songs. biggrin

Sorry, that *is* the order of my list.
This is only albums and songs that *I* was touched by--not what I consider to be worthy for others to listen to.

Sorry to be a stickler, but Alfterglow was released in 1999.

I am however impressed with your devotion to Neil Finn. Probably the best song writer since Lennon/McCartney IMO. So yes, I agree he is a god. But aside from a few tracks I never fully got into 'Time On Earth'. Though you have inspired me to give it a fresh listen.

Afterglow wasn't released here in America until 2000, so I included it anyway. As far as Neil goes, he's absolutely my favorite songwriter of all time. Great guy, too -- I've gotten to meet him several times. Musically, he's never disappointed me yet (well, except a couple of Enz tracks, but he was still young then). I think it says a lot about the guy when he can get members of Radiohead, Pearl Jam, the Smiths, Wilco, etc. to record with him just by asking.

Albums:
1. India Arie - Testimony Vol 1. Life & Relationship

Songs:
1. India Arie - This too shall pass

I am just surprised that India Arie has (almost) been unmentioned...i believe she is by far the best R&b artist on this moment out there...strange....

Thanks for all of the submissions, guys! It's going to take me a bit of time to tabulate all of the results. As such, I'll still accept any ballots submitted in the next 2 days!

Happy New Year to everyone, and thank you so much for participating. I'm thinking of running a similar poll for albums and songs from ANY year after this is done, if interest is sufficient.

My formula doesn't work for only one album (or one song). Care to add some more?

Fair enough ...just saw 1999 on my disc.

Funny you say that about enz. Some of my favourite 'Finn' moments are from that era. In fact 'Message To My Girl' is my all time favourite song of his. No matter the arrangement, that song is simply amazing.

Never a more perfect song written.

Oh, I love the Enz. I just don't think he had perfected his craft at that point. "Message to My Girl" is fantastic, but my favorite Enz song is definitely "The Devil You Know."

For my money, the most perfect song ever written is "Don't Dream It's Over." mushy
