LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson's death certificate has been released without a listed cause of death and a coroner said investigators are still testing the singer's brain.

Public health officials issued the death certificate on Tuesday, the same day public and private memorials were held in Los Angeles. The cause of death is listed as "deferred."

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Jackson's brain, or at least part of it, was still being held by investigators and would be returned to the family for interment once neuropathology tests were completed.

"As soon as we are done with the brain, we will return it," Winter said. "There is a whole series of tests that will be done."

It is not uncommon for the coroner to hold on to a brain or samples from it. Winter said families sometimes delay burying a loved one until after the brain has been returned, but he had received no word from the Jackson family about their intentions.

"The last I heard, they are not burying the body yet," Winter said.

Police and coroner's officials continue to probe what killed the 50-year-old singer on June 25.

On the certificate, Jackson's occupation is listed as a musician. He is described as a high school graduate and divorced. The information provided for the document was given by Jackson's sister, La Toya, one of several family members who rushed to the hospital where Jackson was pronounced dead.

The document doesn't state where Jackson will be buried.

sigh Just awful and sad. I know they have to come to a conclusion regading his cause of death but the idea of his brain being held somewhere and tested is just really hard to come to terms with. sad

1. people poo-pooed me yesterday when I said his brain was removed and not returned to his body.

2. it's so weird to me that his death certificate simply states his name, lists his occupation as musician, that he's divorced, a high school graduate, etc. death really is the great equalizer.

MJ apparently knew the Karkashian girls very well and they visited Neverland many times over the years when they were younger. How he knew them, I have no idea, but Kim's said she's known MJ for many years. Of course, this also applies to Nicole Ritchie. Perhaps he knew the Kardashian girls thru her. shrug

Don't forget Usher. John Mayer may be worth a watch if for nothing than to see him doing his Eric Clapton imitation! lol

I kind of feel sorry for Joe with the way some people were reacting to him at the memorial. And I know most people will hate what I'm going to say but I actually think Katherine had just as much a negative effect on Michael as Joe did. I think the religion in which she insisted on raising him in helped elevate so many of his emotional problems. The lack of celebration and 'normal' events, the supressing of his sexuality, and the keeping quiet on abuse was what I felt were his main problems.

shrug The memorial was one moment in time. The bigger concern was how he treated his son in LIFE, which he didn't seem to give too much of a fuck about sadly. Some news show just showed that old clip of Joe saying, "I didn't know he got sick [at the sight/presence of me], regurgitated but he regurgitated all the way to the bank." neutral I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of what he said. He didn't seem to care about ANYTHING but the $ Mike could generate. So if he was treated funny @ the memorial, that's his own doing...

Stevie was outstanding. This and his popularity caused him the biggest applause.

I liked the other contributions though. Usher sang well (although Gone Too Soon not the hardest thing to sing is). Let's thank God Justin Timberlake was not there.

garbage. Just because he's dead doesn't mean we have to stop being critical.

You don't have to stop being critical at all. But this is a funeral and memorial thread. Tabloid shit is out of place here. Take that crap somewhere else where people don't want to focus on general topic, or his music and art. It's not even because this is a thread about a celebrity; it's just basic ettiquette and protocol in the initial aftermath of anybody's death. The fact that this thread clearly states in the title the topic is about the memorial and funeral, it's very distasteful to have to re-hash and re-visit all of his old issues here. That's what you can can go visit X17 and and Smoking Gun for. If I'm not mistaken, this is the time when orgers are being encouraged to share their reflections on this man's Going Home, be they poignant, happy, sad, humourous or dissatisfied. Speculations on his alleged Lupus and Vittaligo ain't got a goody gat damn to do with it hammer

Borrowed from another post but this is important for those (Fox News) that try to brush off Michael's humanitarian efforts:

Forget everything about Michael as an entertainer...as a musician..as a dancer..forget his influence on fashion, pop culture, etc.

Forget all of that...and look at this

January 10, 1984: Michael visits the unit for burn victims at
Brotman-Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.

April 9, 1984: David Smithee, a 14-year-old boy who suffers from cystic fibroses is invited to Michael's home.
It was David's last wish to meet Michael. He dies 7 weeks later.

April 14, 1984: Michael equips a 19-bed-unit at Mount Sinai New York Medical Center. This center is part of the T.J. Martell-Foundation for leukemia and cancer research.

July 5, 1984: During the Jackson's press conference at Tavern On The Green, Michael announces that his part of the earnings from the Victory Tour will be donated to three charitable organizations:
The United Negro College Fund, Camp Good Times, and the T.J.
Martell-Foundation.

July 14, 1984: After the first concert of the Victory Tour, Michael
meets 8 terminally ill children backstage.

December 13, 1984:Michael visits the Brotman Memorial Hospital, where he had been treated when he was burned very badly during the producing of a Pepsi commercial.
He donates all the money he receives from Pepsi, $1.5 million, to the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children.

January 28, 1985: Michael and 44 other artists meet to record "We Are The World", written by Michael and Lionel Ritchie.
The proceeds of this record are donated to the starving people in
Africa.

1986: Michael set up the "Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund".
This $1.5 million fund is aimed towards students majoring in performance art and communications, with money given each year to students attending a UNCF member college or university.

February 28, 1986: After having had a heart-transplant, 14-year-old
Donna Ashlock from California gets a call from Michael Jackson.
He had heard that she is a big fan of his.
Michael invites her to his home as soon as she is feeling better.
This visit takes place on March 8th. Donna stays for dinner and watches a movie together with Michael.

September 13, 1987: Michael supports a campaign against racism.
He supports efforts of the NAACP, to fight prejudices against black artists.

October 1987: At the end of his Bad Tour, Michael donates some personal items to the UNESCO for a charitable auction.
The proceeds will be for the education of children in developing
countries.

February 1, 1988: The Song "Man In the Mirror" enters the charts.
The proceeds from the sales of this record goes to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a camp for children who suffer from cancer.

March 1, 1988: At a press conference held by his sponsor Pepsi, Michael presents a $600,000 check to the United Negro College Fund.

April 1988: Free tickets are given away for three concerts in Atlanta,
Georgia to the Make A Wish Foundation.

May 22, 1988: Michael visits children who suffer from cancer in the
Bambini-Gesu Children's Hospital in Rome. He signs autographs and gives away sweets and records to the little patients. He promises a check of 100,000 pounds to the hospital.

July 16, 1988: Before a concert at Wembley Stadium Michael meets the Prince of Wales and his wife Diana. He hands over a check of 150,000 pounds for the Prince's Trust, and a check of 100,000 pounds for the children's hospital at Great Ormond Street.

July 20, 1988: Michael visits terminally ill children at Great Ormond
Street Hospital. At a unit for less critical patients he stays a little
bit longer and tells a story.

August 29, 1988: At his 30th birthday Michael performs a concert in
Leeds, England for the English charity-organization "Give For Life". The goal of this organization is the immunization of children. Michael presents a check for 65,000 pounds.

December 1988: Michael visits 12-year-old David Rothenburg. His father had 5 years earlier burned him very badly in an act of revenge against his former wife.

January 1989: The proceeds of one of Michael's shows in Los Angeles are donated to Childhelp USA, the biggest charity-organization against child-abuse. In appreciation of the contributions of Michael, Childhelp of Southern California is founding the "Michael Jackson International Institute for Research On Child Abuse".

January 10, 1989: The Bad Tour comes to an end. Under-privileged
children are donated tickets for each concert and Michael donates money to hospitals, orphanages and charity-organizations.

February 7, 1989: Michael visits the Cleveland Elementary School in
Stockton, California. Some weeks earlier a 25-year-old man had fired at the school's playground. 5 children had been killed and 39 had been wounded....

There's just too much to list them all....

Paris Jackson's Speech Was Not Planned

Carefully laid out as it was, Tuesday's public memorial for Michael Jackson was indisputably stolen by the impromptu moment when the late pop star's 11-year-old daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson, took to the stage of Los Angeles's Staples Center and emotionally declared her love for her father.

Paris's brief appearance "was not planned," Ken Ehrlich, producer of the tribute, tells CNN. "A lot of the show was not scripted. Music was laid out, but most of the speakers really spoke from their heart – people who knew Michael well – and I think that's what gave the show its heart."

Barely able to eek out the words as she trembled in front of the microphone, the tearful child said before being enveloped in the embrace of her aunts and uncles, "Ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just want to say that I love him so much."

Ehrlich also said that going into the tribute the Jackson family's request had been that "we don't want to do a TV show, we want to do a memorial service." The producer added, "We hope you got the feeling you were watching a memorial service."

Funny, Ehrlich is German für honest. So Ken might be honest indeed.

Mariah was not outstanding, mainly because of her lack of personality. she's plastic.
