Org Music Club Mix Tape SEVEN: "Like a priest with a pornographic watch..."

Like a priest with a pornographic watch...

After a painful process of selection, I have came up with a mixtape that makes me...almost happy.

I truly love these versions. Some aren't far from the original, but the passage poured into them is to be noted. I'm in no condition to write an essay about each song. This mixtape is as it is.

THE SONGS:

Björk - The Boho Dance

Maysa Mataraso - Ne me quitte pas

Ringo Shiina - Unconditional Love

David Bowie - Tonight

R.E.M. - There She Goes Again

The Smashing Pumpkins - Soul Power

Hotel Persona - Touch Me

Arcade Fire - Brazil

Placebo - Daddy Cool

Blondie - "Heroes" (Live)

Love the theme. Like the order. Fave is Maysa Mataraso's beautiful rendition of Ne Me Quitte Pas.

U & I are both passionate about music, so there are two songs I could not do anything with, being Bowie and Hotel Persona.

You made me like an R.E.M. song. Grrrrr. I liked Bjork opening. Placebo always makes me grin.

Thanks for the ride, mate. Maysa is SO on my radar now.

The Boho Dance: "...with Negro affectations." giggle One of my favorite recent Joni covers and arguably the best from A Tribute to Joni Mitchell. This'll never happen, but I'd love to see Bjork do an entire album of Joni covers. I can't think of many other contemporary artists who wield the intrigue to make Joni's familiar narratives new again.

Ne me quitte pas: Beautiful. mushy I so need to brush up on my French. There's a whole new world out there.

Unconditional Love: I'm unsure about her voice, but I love the orchestration. If most of Shiina's stuff sounds like this, I'm very interested in checking out more.

Tonight: shrug

There She Goes Again: I enjoy this. Strong guitar riff and, sue me, but I always enjoy Mike Mill's backing vocals. The song benefits from being left quite simple otherwise. I haven't heard early versions of this song for years and years -- I'm gonna have to go back to compare.

Soul Power: A genuinely interesting JB homage, and I've never really given thought to how much I do like Billy Corrigan's voice. My tastes are more inclined to James' original, though. It's comfort food I guess.

Touch Me: I've never been a big fan of the song (which I believe places me in peril of having my gay card revoked). But I do like this cover more than the original.

Brazil: The second Arcade Fire track of this mixtape cycle, and they're 2 for 2 on winning me over. They do a great job on this standard. I've resolved that Arcade Fire's layered instrumentals appeal to me far more than Win Butler's voice, though.

Daddy Cool: Still not feeling this one.

Heroes: It doesn't hurt that this is perhaps my favorite Bowie tune, but the guitar work is exhilerating, and who couldn't love that Debbie Harry's coked-out whining adds such a dimension of oblivion to this hopelessly hopeful emo delusion? lol Love it!

My favorites: Blondie doing "Heroes," followed by Bjork doing "Boho Dance."

It's an Iggy Pop cover (Bowie actually co-wrote the original)

I choose it because it always reminds me of Colin.

Since the audio is gone, I'll keep my focus on the visual! Could you tell me something about the painting?

OK, first of all. Glad I got to listen before the music industry stuck their noses where it doesn't belong! disbelief

Second, I am sure that I am not alone in still not fully understanding our Little Musical Princess lol I couldn't have ever expected this mix from you lol Hearing it and knowing what I know of you of course it makes sense but then again, I thought you'd trample through here with your tiara's and wigs waving your fairy wand sprinkling pop dust everywhere lol Now, I love more than anything to have my pop sensibilities jacked off, but I think I'm in the minority with the sophisticated players in this project cool

The Boho Dance A Bjork song I haven't heard mushy but that's not hard since I am so B-side/remix challenged disbelief This isn't off a proper album is it? If so I'm so embarrassed for not knowing lol

Ne Me Quitte Pas - I became very very nostalgic for my European roots listening to this. sigh To grow up in cultures where you are exposed to foreign languages and those other languages embraced and not villified like here in the US. Must be nice! lol

Unconditional Love Did I ever tell you that violins are my most favorite musical instrument? LOVE the unexpected grandness of this song! love

Tonight - OMG, Did not expect this Bowie cut, or any Bowie cut for that matter lol So perfect! touched

There She goes again I'm so R.E.M Illiterate, I don't even know what to say boxed 2 songs I love, never ventured any further than that. Love this so now it's 3! smile But probably because it didn't sound like Michael Stipe to me lol

Soul Power Ok, the first glimpse of the pop Princess. Or should I say the dark princess? lol I don't think I ever heard this? Is this off Machina? I only have Gish, Siamese and Pisces. I really should own Melancholy right?

Touch Me…. not sure what to think of this song…..

Brazil Poor Arcade Fire. So maligned and savaged, unneccessarily so sad lol So glad to see them getting some love in this project and from you and Moonbeam. That says so much about the both of you. I think this song, and most of the stuff they do, is fantastic. Awesome smile

Daddy Cool … definitely the most Princess Matronik of the entire mix lol

Heroes Love that you snuck another Bowie tune in there! falloff

Overall, I'd say that I'm really surprised about this mix. Honestly I thought you'd pull out murder on the danceflooresque type cuts. Nothing but sugar, pop overdose. But I think more than anything it speaks to your depths. I have learned so much about you over the years from your little escapades here in this forum and I feel like I learned some more from this project…..but you're still a mystery lol

If it wasn't for you, my project wouldn't have come off the ground the way it did. you were the first person I thought of when this project was announced and one song on my mix, which is the bridge connecting both sides, I only have because of you sharing your musical loves with us here in MNP touched Loved your mix, loved the title LOVE YOU exclaim clapping

I wanted to hear this. Bummer about the site.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.
