Org Music Club Mix Tape SEVEN: "Like a priest with a pornographic watch..."
Like a priest with a pornographic watch... After a painful process of selection, I have came up with a mixtape that makes me...almost happy. I truly love these versions. Some aren't far from the original, but the passage poured into them is to be noted. I'm in no condition to write an essay about each song. This mixtape is as it is. THE SONGS: Björk - The Boho Dance Maysa Mataraso - Ne me quitte pas Ringo Shiina - Unconditional Love David Bowie - Tonight R.E.M. - There She Goes Again The Smashing Pumpkins - Soul Power Hotel Persona - Touch Me Arcade Fire - Brazil Placebo - Daddy Cool Blondie - "Heroes" (Live) MIXTAPE: http://matronik.muxtape.com/ [Edited 8/17/08 15:40pm]

Love the theme. Like the order. Fave is Maysa Mataraso's beautiful rendition of Ne Me Quitte Pas.
U & I are both passionate about music, so there are two songs I could not do anything with, being Bowie and Hotel Persona. You made me like an R.E.M. song. Grrrrr. I liked Bjork opening. Placebo always makes me grin. Thanks for the ride, mate. Maysa is SO on my radar now.

The Boho Dance: "...with Negro affectations." Ne me quitte pas: Beautiful. Unconditional Love: I'm unsure about her voice, but I love the orchestration. If most of Shiina's stuff sounds like this, I'm very interested in checking out more. Tonight: There She Goes Again: I enjoy this. Strong guitar riff and, sue me, but I always enjoy Mike Mill's backing vocals. The song benefits from being left quite simple otherwise. I haven't heard early versions of this song for years and years -- I'm gonna have to go back to compare. Soul Power: A genuinely interesting JB homage, and I've never really given thought to how much I do like Billy Corrigan's voice. My tastes are more inclined to James' original, though. It's comfort food I guess. Touch Me: I've never been a big fan of the song (which I believe places me in peril of having my gay card revoked). But I do like this cover more than the original. Brazil: The second Arcade Fire track of this mixtape cycle, and they're 2 for 2 on winning me over. They do a great job on this standard. I've resolved that Arcade Fire's layered instrumentals appeal to me far more than Win Butler's voice, though. Daddy Cool: Still not feeling this one. Heroes: It doesn't hurt that this is perhaps my favorite Bowie tune, but the guitar work is exhilerating, and who couldn't love that Debbie Harry's coked-out whining adds such a dimension of oblivion to this hopelessly hopeful emo delusion? My favorites: Blondie doing "Heroes," followed by Bjork doing "Boho Dance." [Edited 8/18/08 20:56pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

OK, first of all. Glad I got to listen before the music industry stuck their noses where it doesn't belong! Second, I am sure that I am not alone in still not fully understanding our Little Musical Princess The Boho Dance A Bjork song I haven't heard Ne Me Quitte Pas - I became very very nostalgic for my European roots listening to this. Unconditional Love Did I ever tell you that violins are my most favorite musical instrument? LOVE the unexpected grandness of this song! Tonight - OMG, Did not expect this Bowie cut, or any Bowie cut for that matter There She goes again I'm so R.E.M Illiterate, I don't even know what to say Soul Power Ok, the first glimpse of the pop Princess. Or should I say the dark princess? Touch Me…. not sure what to think of this song….. Brazil Poor Arcade Fire. So maligned and savaged, unneccessarily so Daddy Cool … definitely the most Princess Matronik of the entire mix Heroes Love that you snuck another Bowie tune in there! Overall, I'd say that I'm really surprised about this mix. Honestly I thought you'd pull out murder on the danceflooresque type cuts. Nothing but sugar, pop overdose. But I think more than anything it speaks to your depths. I have learned so much about you over the years from your little escapades here in this forum and I feel like I learned some more from this project…..but you're still a mystery If it wasn't for you, my project wouldn't have come off the ground the way it did. you were the first person I thought of when this project was announced and one song on my mix, which is the bridge connecting both sides, I only have because of you sharing your musical loves with us here in MNP . I wanted to hear this. Bummer about the site. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |
