DavidEye said: Yeah,'A Funk Odyssey' is their masterpiece. It's the album in which Jay Kay finally developed into an amazing songwriter, imo.Songs like "Corner Of The Earth" and "Picture Of My Life" are stunning, with deep, introspective lyrics.Uptempo tracks like "Love Foolosophy" and "Little L" should be played at every club in the world (lol),this is what modern-day dance music should sound like. The album is a unique blend of 70s-disco/funk mixed with modern-day electronica, and the results are spectacular. The new CD is great, but I don't think it's as good as 'A Funk Odyssey'. All due respect, DavidEye, Return of the Space Cowboy remains the J's masterpiece. AFO is a good album, for all the reasons you listed, but when I think about "Return of the Space Cowboy," "Stillness In Time," "Light Years," "Manifest Destiny," "Mr. Moon," and "Morning Glory," from beginning to end, ROTSC is their best album. If you've been around for fiteen years and still haven't managed to write more than three songs with a proper chorus I think you should consider quitting music.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I don't think they are well-written at all. I'd rank them as low as with most unsigned bands. The guy has a great voice (at least it's flexible), so he can make up for the fact that he hardly can write a decent tune. They were an important band in the 90s, I admit. Their blend of digital/analog type of sounds was a leading force in the development of the "modern urban sound". But it really got nowhere after "Travelling Without Moving".

If you like the others, it's a safe purchase I guess. "Cosmic Girl" is on it as well as "Virtual Insanity". Two of their better songs with proper choruses.
Seriously speaking, it's not that I'd personally demand choruses from music. Their wide crossover success in Europe was just a bit mystery to me back in the day. Good for the lads though.

My favorite cuts by this group are Little L and Loves Foolosophy. [Edited 8/23/05 9:33am]

Also, I recommend that all Jamiroquai fans see Napoleon Dynomite. The main character does a funky dance to Canned Heat which is off the hook for real.

Nah. They suck.
I understand why people like them though. They (or he) completely steals form the 70's "deeper underground" was ok. At least it sounded a bit different then the rest.

I'm pretty much sick of "Virtual Insanity" though. That's why I don't have it. Don't hate on the whole album as a result. There are some fantastic tracks on there, especially "Everyday" (maybe Jamiroquai's best slow jam ever), "Alright" and that killer bonus track. Cop it when you get the chance. I find Synchronized terribly underrated by folks. I probably listen to that one the most.

Hell yes!!!! And I even got in trouble here a while ago for labelling them as, arguably, the last great Funk band.
They still are. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I loved alotta songz from that album which was released in 1996- the first time i heard of em. Some of their songz are pretty cool, but commercial radio here really did an overkill on their album (itz too late in da night 2 remember da name) which was released in 2001. I actually bought dat album- but somethin happenz 2 me and my reaction 2 music when they commercialise it too much. Itz like it losez itz vibe or feelin...and then it feelz plasticized and is a mock-up of what the general public want 2 hear. But then there are some songz dat u can't help but love either way. im tired edit [Edited 8/23/05 6:35am] I love this corner of the earth too, and in the car too! Its perfect for it. it reminds me of Manifest Destiny for some reason actually...love that one too. [Edited 8/23/05 6:55am] A Funk Odyssey is da name of the album!! Haha, itz now morning and im a fresh lil whipper snapper Yeah i LOVE dat song, haven't heard Manifest Destiny! Will have 2 listen in for it!! No hablo espanol,no!
Pero hablo ingles..ssii muy muy bien... "Come into my world..." Missy Quote of da Month: "yeah, sure, that's cool...wait WHAT?! "
