Didn't ol' TTD play saxophone too?

I don't know. I never saw him play and i don't recall seeing it on the linear notes of his albums. One thing P has over TTD though is showmanship. P is a much better performer that TTD.

I'd heard that TTD was a better dancer than Prince, but then again Prince's dancing is not what makes his shows great.

This is a ridiculous thread.

Most professional musicans are multi-instrumentalists. If you are formally-trained, more than likely you have a discipline on piano or guitar in addition to your main instrument. Fully harmonic composing is done on piano or guitar. Many vocalists and horn players have this in their background.

Most electric guitarists can play bass and the reverse is often true. Rhythm vs lead is a matter of technique; not axe. Drums is a minor matter. I've sat around enough sessions and warmups to see a bass or guitarist pick up sticks

I don't how you're going to rate anyone when you have no idea what other musicians are capable of , but then, this is merely an opinion. Not like it matters.

AHHHHH, SHUT UP!!!!!

Bitch. I oughta slap you like an ex-girl-friend.

I'VE CHECKED both JUNGLE FEVER and CONVERSATION PEACE CD BOOKLET to search for any info or credit of stevie playing ELECTRIC GUITAR OR ELECTRIC BASS (after browsing all the other stevie's albums with no results) AND THE RESULT IS:

NO ELECTRIC BASS OR ELECTRIC GUITAR PLAYED BY STEVIE.as usual it only states KEYBOARD GUITAR by stevie or GUITAR (SYNTHS) and BASS (Synths) by STEVIE,whilst the electric bass played by for example...NATHAN WATTS.
so i guess i've proven my point that:THERE'S NO RECORDING EVIDENCE of STEVIE PLAYING ELECTRIC GUITAR NEITHER ELECTRIC BASS. or maybe jack wants to post pics of stevie with a bass?, but it doesnt prove that stevie can play it anyway.i've seen pictures of sting with a violin, but there's no record of sting playing violin on his albums,so?

Fanatics like you embarrass yourselves by the things you say. Yeah, Prince is the most humble musician. He never brags or shows off, right? Maybe you just can't deal with the fact that music doesn't begin and end with Prince for everyone else. Speak to me when you grow up, musically. Until then, by all means keep idolizing Prince in Popdom. Prince is a bad ass, but he's a LONG ways from the baddest.

Even Axl Rose is multi-instrumentalist. big deal. lol

I know tons of multi-instrumentalists in my town.

I am 22 and I play bass, guitar , piano, mouth harmonica and a bit of drums. so what?

there is tons of people who plays lots of instruments, i know a buch of them. A female friend of mine plays VERY well violin, bandolin, and still plays guitar, keys and flute. It´s very common if you live around musicans.

Prince is cool cause he playes guitar, piano, bass adn drums WELL.

Stevie wonder cannot play bass, and guitar as good as Prince, if we wanna be real the guy only plays keyboaard. He is only good at it. And Prince can´t play 27 instruments he can play 4, or 5. And yes Tony Macalpine is a most proficient instrumentalist than Prince.

Prince is on a higher level as a musican then Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Paul Macartney, but there are a lot of guys who can play circles around our Prince.
But as an all around artist, when we count sing, dance, perform, maybe Prince is the best.

Stevie may not be as good at Prince on guitar and bass, but he's way better than Prince on keyboards, drums and harmonica. Stevie's been compared to Oscar Peterson on the Piano and there isn't anyone who could hold a candle to Stevie on harmonica.

Personally I find these threads kinda frustrating because most people seem to worship Prince a lot more than I thought they would even on a Prince forum and don't acknowledge the superiority of Prince's predecessors, which even the man himself would. Prince is great, but there are, and have been, plenty of people who do the things Prince does as well and better. Obviously I prefer Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Sly, James Brown, and others to Prince and some people don't, which is fine, but these "who can play more instruments" threads are getting pretty acrimonious and repetitive and I think we should all call a truce.

Hey guys come on, I love Stevie Wonder and I don´t think Prince is the best multi-instrumentalist of the world. But Stevie Wonder is not a fucking guitar and bass player just cause he can strum some notes or play a simple tune.

Prince is a guitar player, piano player, drum player and bass player. He plays these instruments well. ok?

Stevie Wonder does not play bass guitar or eletric guitar well ok? Just cause he picked a guitar and hold it and played a song don´t proves nothing cause probably he does not play it well, if he played it well he would play all over his album and one live shows.

Ok you can say Stevie Wonder is the better singer, the better songwriter whatever you want, dut dont come with this BULLSHIT that Stevie WOnder is as good as Prince talking about multi-instrumentalism, it IS stupid to think that. Come on.

And other thing, Prince probably can play lots of instruments in the level of proficiency that i suposse Stevie WOnder plays guitar, but he will not play this live, cause he is not pro-level at it. Do you doubt that Prince can play things like mouth harmonica or sweet flute? they are VERY easy to play, it´s HARD TO MASTER but easy to play. I have never read so much sh_t in a thread. mad

It's stupid of us to believe that Stevie can play bass and guitar when HE DOES AND HAS? I'd say anyone who's been called upon to play those instruments ON OTHER PEOPLE'S RECORDS is fairly talented (Yes you can say the same of Prince). To use your own argument against you, Prince's drum and keyboard playing is nothing special and yet you people think he's a frickin' virtuoso because he's competant on them. Stevie's bass and guitar playing is more comparable to Prince's key and drum playing than Prince's alleged harmonica, flute or whatever other instrument you want to assume he can probably play. If any objective music critic were to rank the best multi-instrumentalists in music, Stevie would be higher than prince EVEN IF HE COULDN'T PLAY BASS OR GUITAR, because of his pioneering use, and unrivaled proficiency, at using synthesizers to make all kinds of different sounds and making them feel organic. Stevie is one of the first and best one man bands, Prince is just one in a long line.

Considering Stevie played nearly the entire instrumental backing, as well as produced, many of the songs that he wrote for others and yes PLAYED BASS AND GUITAR in many of those cases (listen to the two songs we mentioned and tell me stevie can't play them WELL), I'd say that qualified him as a great instrumentalist.

Playing a snare on a friend's recording? Wow you've reached new levels of idiocy with that analogy, especially since we're talking about one of the most notoriously professional record labels with one of the tightest groups of session men WHO ALL ADMIRE STEVIE'S MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST TALENT. btw, i am a musician, and defending stevie from idiot prince cock-suckers who'd seek to impugn his abilities doesn't make me a stevie cock sucker, which isn't even that much of an insult as he's one of the greatest musicians of all time.

Once again, Prince is a good keyboard player and drummer, but Stevie blows him out of the water on both and he's the greatest harmonica player on the planet (See Do I Do, where he puts Dizzie Gallespie's solo to shame).

You know you used to piss me off, now you just piss me off and amuse me at the same time wink

ONE MORE REASON 2 PUT PRINCE IN TOP MULTI-INSTUMENTALIST LIST:
there's nobody outthere but PRINCE whose multi-instrumentation capacity has landed him on THREE DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS MAGAZINE(covers, spotlight, articles, clinic)such as:GUITAR PLAYER(NUMEROUS TIMES),BASS PLAYER(1999,2004),KEYBOARD PLAYER(NUMEROUS TIMES).
if u know sum other guy who also did this,RAISE UR HANDS?hmmm,nobody?... cool

again my top multi-instrumentalist LIST goes like this,in rank order:
1.PRINCE,yeah PRINCE!not STEVIE,because...STEVIE'S NOT AN ELECTRIC GUITAR AND BASS PLAYER like PRINCE!
2.TODD RUNDGREN

3.LEWIS TAYLOR

Ooh wow, I surrender to your superior logic. Such refutation. Magazine covers, wow. I would've never expected it. Were you in forensics in high school or are you just a FUCKING MORON. lol . Honestly what's your next argument going to be, i can't wait because "stevie wonder can't play guitar because he's never been on guitar player magazine" surpassed my wildest expectations, almost as much as the logic behind "more magazine covers=more talent"

lol lol lol lol
