Larry is a funky legend (His Bio speaks for itself), unfairly framed for crimes he didn't commit by the Prince community. razz

It's very patronising of y'all to think Prince is some sheep-like fool who can't think for himself and create his own convictions, ideals etc.

Aren't we all influenced by others to some point?

Nope, not me...every single thought, conclusion, and viewpoint I have ever had has originated from me and me alone, with absolutely nobody else's thoughts or expressions having any affect whatsoever on how I see things in life!!!!....

At least, that's what King Sausage said about me, and I tend to follow what he says a lot...

Overall, Larry has had a positive musical influence on Prince. Unfortunately, part of his influence appears to have been religious, possibly of the JW variety.

The editing of old songs to delete profanity has been ridiculous and annoying.

EXACTLY - my problem with Larry is the fact that he is the catalyst for rediculous shit. The editing of old songs is moronic.... especially since prince still swears. For example, when he says 'what the duck?' the INTENT is the same as 'what the fuck' that's what he KNOW's we will think of. The intent is THE SAME. It's like anything else - if I call someone an 'asshole' or a 'motherfucker' it's not the word itself that offends but the intention of the one saying. If I had been raised using 'bandaid' as a demeaning term for someone, and it held the same notion in my mind as asshole would in someone else's - am I *better* or *more religiously correct* to call someone a 'bandaid' ? So how is 'what the duck' any different than 'what the fuck'? It's foolishness, and at best - it's blind sheepishness

To me it's ridiculous (but amusing) that so many people keep complaining about Prince's beliefs and his wishes to edit some of his music! Why do you guys keep wanking about him changing some of his lyrics? Don't you realize how juvenile you sound?

For one, Larry made the bravest, non-sheepish decision anyone can make by not being a follower, standing on his own, thinking for himself, leaving the world and becoming one of Jehovah's Witness.
Secondly, people need to stop talking about stuff of which they obviously know little or nothing about. STOP REGURGITATING LIES AND ANTI-JW PROPAGANDA!! People like you have cost much human suffering and lives in this and other countries because of lying and spreading phobic hysteria just because you're afraid of learning the truth about a subject that just might cause you to make some changes in your life. Can't leave that all powerful "comfort zone". What would the neighbors say??? I tell you: 1 Peter 4:4

idiot. READ the topic of this page. I shall now spell out for you how what I said relates: Prince's editing of his lyrics (the example I used in my original post), stems from Larry Graham's intentional influence over Prince's beliefs. I don't give a shit if Prince doesn't want to swear... but if that were the case, there would be no *fill-in* words or phrases in his vocabulary.

Orange - lovely sense of humor... thanks
So, let me get this straight, you think that Prince has decided to change some of his old songs because Larry told him to?

Larry seems to be a nice man.
If you doubt his talent get that GCS double CD that came out recently!
Again I'll say Larry only has a much "power" over Prince as Prince lets him have.
Prince is a GROWN ASS man and makes his own decisions!
Larry isn't even involved in Prince's music anymore, he played on two tracks on "The Rainbow Children" I would hardly call that CONTROL!
Besides, Prince is a free spirit and as soon as something starts to confine him too much he'll leave it!
The first one of Larry's beliefs Prince absolutely CAN'T abide he won't..plain and simple.
Besides do you really think Jehovah Witnesses approve of lyrics like "wet circles with the toy as you bring yourself to joy?"
Come on! They don't say that type of shit in AWAKE!
People just need a scapegoat and it's always Larry or Kirk! Maybe you just don't like the direction Prince's music has gone in the last few/several years.
Maybe you need to look at WHY you feel the need to hold on to him rather than whatever hold you believe Larry has over him!

Newsflash for the "BibleTeacher": Religion, my dear, has caused far more "human suffering and lives" than anything ever said here at the HEAVY Org!

Prince's prior struggle between his spirituality and sexuality is found in his most interesting art. One does not have to be religious to be offended by profanity, just as one does not have to be a secular humanist to be put off by revisionist editing of previously released art. It's like painting clothes on Ruben's "The Three Graces." Give us a break, BibleTeacher. Please, save your scripture for Sunday school.evil

Oh SLAG - just to make you smile; I happen to know that there are a lot of things that married Jehovah's Witnesses say to each other which aren't printed in the Awake...
But as you know Awake! is not a magazine about sex...
But if you're looking for something Biblically sexy, check out the "Song of Solomon" in the Bible - Jehovah's Witnesses aren't prudes, they just aren't crudes...

As a huge fan of 70s funk and R&B,I am a Larry Graham fan.He is a genuis at what he does! Like Slag said,y'all need to check out his excellent 2-CD compilation that came out a few months ago.Too funky!!

As for the "influence" he supposedly has over Prince....this topic has been beaten to death on this site,so I'm gonna keep my opinion to myself.Besides, weren't we just discussing this on another thread?

Larry Graham is a fantastic, legendary bass player. His talents are neglected by some because of their intolerance and prejudice towards Larry's religous beliefs.

Larry has contributed to some excellent Prince songs in the past few years. He plays on 'The Work' and 'Last December' on the critically acclaimed 'The Rainbow Children'. He also featured on 'The War' and he plays bass on the NPGMC track 'The Daisy Chain'.

People are using Larry as a scapegoat. We have no right to dictate Prince's choice of friends or religion. I am glad Prince has a true, close friend. That is something that we all need.

If you don't like Prince's 'new' direction, then stop listening. It really is that simple. If Prince's religous choices affect you that greatly, then you should take him down from the pedestal you have placed him upon and view him in a more rational and 'healthy' context.
