Sheila E has been performing this live for over 30 years. I first heard it on her Sex Cymbal tour in '91. I wonder if it was slated for her abandoned album on Paisley? Anyone know for sure??

if this is the case, it's a small wonder she hasn't come out yet, telling us all about how she wrote it
and got prince to do a version following her lead vocal.

Haha, MEOW wink

I predict Something Funky to be the next pre release.

Hope so, cos it’s on the advert?
Next one maybe in 2-3 weeks

I also think it will be the next single. There might be another one in October before the set is released.

And you'd know all that if you'd checked the 1990-1992 chapter of The Chronological Prince ...ings Index. wink

That site isn't the end-all be-all, either; for example, Brenda Bennet has stated quite clearly in interviews that Manic Monday was originally recorded by Vanity for the second V6 album, but that site lists its first recording being in 1984. It also makes sense that Manic Monday was recorded earlier, as its melody is quite similar to that of the verses of 1999, and Princevault notes in its Trivia section that Prince's original organ arrangement uses the Oberheim OB-X and that this is unusual because by 1984 Prince rarely used the OB-X and had moved-on to using the newer OB-8. The OB-X was what he used to record 1999 and Vanity 6.

Now perhaps 1984 was the first documented recording of Manic Monday, as we all know Prince recorded a lot on the road and in his home studios, but documentation of all that won't ever be as complete as studio recording session records.

I haven't read or heard any interviews with Brenda saying Manic Monday was written for Vanity 6. If you could orgnote me links to any, I'd be delighted to read/hear them. biggrin But, in the recent Apollonia Studio 6 episode on YouTube with Duane Tudahl, Apollonia goes on about how she wrote the lyrics for Glam Life, Manic Monday which Prince then made into songs. smile Also, PrinceVault has it from 4 February 1984 too. wink So who's right? Brenda or Apollonia? confused

I think if they treated vinyl like in the 90s when they would leave off material to make it fit or put extra material on the CD version because it has more space that it would be better. we could have full CD's than instead of what we now getting with 60 minutes on empty unused space on the CD set that they could have filled with all the previously released material and some extra outtakes.

Yeah, i feel the same.

So much space lost is a pity especially when dozens of outakes from the era are waiting to be released on the Vault.

This said, i also get that the money is coming from that vinyl fashion sad

eek Where's 'I Wonder'? Me and especially my Mrs are very upset at this omission. Listened to it for years as a bootleg. Her favourite Prince song always tells me to put it on again, woooo lawd..she really aint happy at all! lol

.

Well, see, they couldn't include all the outtakes nor fill the three vault CDs to the brim because then it wouldn't fit on the 5LP vault tracks set.

.

But hey, you can enjoy the essay by a "social media personality" in the book that comes with the set.

It has nothing to do with that.

People are ready to pay (even a lot) more for a vinyl package, jus like i do.

Now, would 1 or 2 LP's more or less make a difference to create this SDE package? No.

Same for the production, and the same for the CD SDE package.

-

Again, for those who 'enjoy' a 'social media personality'... something for everyone. I don't care mucheither, but that's the way it is. Sure i will read it.

By the way, i'm not interested in this SDE release, but i'm gonna buy the whole shit anyway, Vinyls and CDs. Blue ray; see it once, maybe twice, and probably put it next to the other 9k vinyls just like i did with the W2A SDE package and a few other re-issue vinyls.

Wouldve been braver if the estate released a tony m showcase as the first single.
That wouldve sent the message they back this era entirely with no reservations.

I Wonder and Player.

Strangely omitted

I’ve just listened to “I Wonder” and looked at some of the comments about it online. Some people have noted it sounds has musical similarities to the released “Elephants & Flowers” and there is no definite date it was recorded (e.g. Prince Vaults just says 1990 or 1991). Perhaps it was recorded early 1990 and was felt to fit more into the Graffiti Bridge era.

Also for “Player” Prince Vault just mentions ‘at some point in 1991’, so if it falls after their arbitrary cut off date (say on or later than 1st October 1991), then it would be considered for the “Love Symbol” SDE (if one ever sees the light of day).

Of course Prince Vault and us all could be wrong and these two tracks may be aren’t even from the D&P/Love Symbol era, time will tell?
