Prince has demolished his primary residence in Chanhassen.

"I know somebody obtained a demolition permit," Chanhassen building official Steve Torell said Monday. "I saw [the house] earlier last week. I wasn't here Friday, so I don't know if it's down or not, yet. It is tough to see back there."

Sunday I could not see the house but did notice construction vehicles on the property. I went to check it out after receiving this anonymous e-mail on Saturday: "What purple wonder multimillionaire is destroying his current home to build a new house. What purple wonder decided to fire his entire security staff (due to the construction) with no notice and paid not one thin dime of severance, as we enter the holidays!" The e-mail claims some of those fired have worked for Prince for 20 years. That's hard to believe, because he doesn't keep people around that long.

Another claim is not borne out by city records. Torell said no permit had been taken out to build another home there.

In spring 2003, Prince demolished another Chanhassen property, the famous Purple House on Lake Riley, where he once lived and where his father, John L. Nelson, lived out his final days.

The demolition of the primary residence is probably not that unexpected, given how fast Chanhassen is growing.

Where once there was no development near the property, Prince can run across more neighbors and lots more traffic between there and Paisley Park, which is still standing.

Him tearing down that house had everything to do with M2, didn't you read the divorce files that were released? The messages between Prince and M2?

No, I did not read those files - wasn't that interested in the details, because it was over 10yrs ago. I knew she was asking for a good chunk of change though, and she claimed he had not returned several of her personal belongings...

They just threw that Charlene Friends story in there, to make it look like he was some sex freak or something, because that is an old story.

The sex tapes don't bother me, that's no big deal the thing is, IF the story has any merit, the 'leaker' said the PD didn't say anything about them, for Prince's privacy, but that leaves the question, IF they really are true, who leaked that info?

It was my understanding P lived with Susannah in the Purple House and not the Galpin house.

No, when Susannah began a relationship with Prince (in 1983) he was still living in the Purple house. In 1985, he started plans to build the Galpin Home. They planned it together, and she, along with his PA Karen Krattinger (they were good friends - still are friends) shopped for furniture and decorated the home. Susannah lived there with him for awhile after it was finished.

I'm surprised that she wanted that house - being that she was not native to MN. I would have thought she would want to be in LA (where she is now) or back in Canada. Also, she did not have much history with that house.

Like every other woman he was involved with throughout his lifetime. However, doesn't change the fact that he put a ring on her, planned a home with her, moved there with her, and wrote some of his best songs about her during, and no doubt, after their "official" breakup.

If there is one thing I think we've all established on this site, it is that Prince was extremely flawed when it came to his personal relationships - especially with girlfriends and wives. He did try though, which says a lot. So let's not digress too far away from topic...

Yes, I just went back and found the information about the Canada home. Just shocked that she would have been awarded the Galpin home even if she was going after it, as that had been in Prince's possession for 30 yrs.
