That kind of goes back to just handing over what he dusted off many years ago for other [aborted] outtake releases. We're still waiting for the Estate/WB/etc. to put some new sweat equity into these efforts.

Still surprising that most of these songs aren't even Purple Rain-specific songs. Further, it's surprising that Prince, in 2015, put We Can Fuck on something. Not just because of a swear word being a focal point of the song, but because - why? It's not a Purple Rain outtake.

He obviously didn't. He wouldn't have ever put Wonderful Ass or Erotic City on there.

That conflicts with a lot of other information out there.

The one thing that's really standing out is the Tweet from Prince in 2015 in regards to PR 30 when he said to "ask" Warner Brothers where it was because he gave them the material in 2014.

Would it be reasonable to assume that P didn't compile the outtakes cd (his quote at the time was "it's just the same album" which implies he didn't add any extras himself) and these come from some form of WB archives?

I just assumed he wanted more than WB were willing to pay for it but who knows, it'd be nice if they did come out and say how it fell apart wouldn't it?

My speculation is that P delivered ~2014/15 his own PR Deluxe configuration with a very slim amount of outtake material (not all of which few songs were used on this 2017 release), and perhaps also submitted material for use in compiling a future 'Vault'-themed release(s) as well, prior to his passing, from which Disc 2 is collectively derived. The song choice was probably not made by P (most likely by WB internally, with some limited consultation outside). And I believe no side, P, WB, or other associates, went to any special effort for the material submitted; no pulling out the masters, or locating obscure mixes or tracks that weren't already at ready disposal (digitzed at PP), in private high-ranking collectors' or associate's hands in decent quality, or in the WB Archives.

.

I believe the most glaring absence is the extra-verse 'Purple Rain' (the WDC 'bass' mix may be semi-mythical); since that was discarded relatively early on, it would most likely have required an extensive effort well beyond anything they've been willing to commit to yet, to locate the underlying sound elements and reassemble it/create a new mix. Even locating a decent-quality test cassette ala ML on 4ever, seems too much of a challenge for them.

.

If I had to guess what P intended for this release when first submitted 3+ years ago, that ultimately ended up on PR Deluxe, certainly 'Electric Intercourse', and probably also OD/RHG, 'Possessed', and perhaps the extended 'Computer Blue'. The other included tracks seem like WB padding the release with other ~1983 material (which is perfectly fine, in the grander scheme of things, and arguably more generous than P would have had it, if it were released several years ago).

.

[Edited 5/10/17 10:20am]

This is the exact tracklist that I saw in 2015.

I'm not calling you a liar but I'll be hugely surprised if this is true.

.

He was quoted as saying 'it's just the same album' but it's a real possiblity Electric Intercourse was on it as he performed it in Birmingham just after the announcement (albeit omitting the word 'intercourse').

.

Really can't see him signing off on the likes of We Can Fuck and Erotic City but I'll be happy to be proved wrong. Not that you have to prove anything and any of this matters... just saying

WB picked up the unreleased songs in their own vault, that's for sure.

.

Prince probably gave them officially the rights to use ELECTRIC INTERCOURSE, POSSESSED, FATHER'SONG, that were already in the movie or played in concerts, but that's about all.

.

You can add to this longer versions such as I WOULD DIE 4U, but surely not Wonderfull ass, We can Fuck or Erotic City. That's probably partly because of the omission of the latter that WB prevented the release in 2014/2015.

.

Prince envisionned his vault as a way to pick up from it unreleased songs, in order to release new albums in the future. He wouldn't have damaged his future albums by giving them unreleased tracks, especially if they were good.

.

But I agree with you, if WB were willing to pay him a huge amount of money, he would have happily given to them.

Can't find it on iTunes uk, but they've added the duration, so it will hopefully be up soon. $1,000,000 question - who sings Our Destiny? Please let it be Prince...

I just realized the release timing could be related to your country's store. I've checked and it doesn't seem to be available in the US or UK yet, but it is in Australia and most Asian stores. If it's not available where you are now, it will be... 'tonight'?

It was about 11pm, May 11 when it went online here.

That's going to be a long wait - again. Anyway, I have the version of Out Destiny with Lisa's vocals, so unless RG is a different version from the one that leaked last year, I think I can wait haha

Well, is it Prince on vocals for "RG" then at least?

I see the duration has populated on US iTunes, but it doesn't give the option to download.

While they're the same as the leaked version, they're all lovely to listen to!

I wonder when will hear the more completed version of Roadhouse Garden? Or a Prince vocal of Our Destiny.

It was previously $28.71

They should adjust the price if you already preordered. I was waiting for it to dip under $25 before I bit.

yup, these are simply the stereo versions of the leaks we already had in mono.

nice to hear wendy and lisa on roadhouse garden, since i didn't hear them on
the mono version, or at least they weren't audible to my ears anyway.

but yeah, no surprises here. good tune(s) though. always loved these two. music

They do. That happened to me when I pre-ordered Prince and For You on vinyl remaster.

They did the same with Art Official Age and Plectrum. I currently have free Apple Music, but I'm not sure when it runs out... hopefully not before the end of June!
