This is how Prince introduced his jazzy 1985 sleeper, "Girl." After a few bars, he says, "Now watch. This is what happens in rehearsal." He then proceeds to walk the NPG ("Cassie," "Morris," etc.) through a brief practice session for a couple minutes.

Fly, your obsession with Andy is unhealthy.

Would you say that if I were posting about the Revolution, MrNelson7? BTW: I'll bet Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson would LOVE the focus on him and Andy.

How about a thread in the associated artists forum (heck it can even be a sticky) for Andy Allo where anything and everything can be posted about her? Just a thought.

So, let me get this straight. Now, Prince needs to go in the Associated Artists forum on prince.org? Seriously? I tell you, y'all are like a bunch of jealous grade schoolers when it comes to Prince and Andy. The fact is that Andy and Prince were quite a prolific pair during his final years. Should we ignore his last productive years, during which Andy Allo was a fixture? I think not.

I have to be honest with you: I find the obsession with this relationship unsettling because it did not stop what ultimately happened to him. Was she around when he had physical pain that caused him to use painkillers? What was her effect on him in that regard, if she witnessed the pill use? He may have been in love with her still, but it wasn't enough to save him from going to the end of the path he took. And, frankly, did she not witness the deterioration in his physical appearance from 2014-2016? Surely she saw him occasionally in person and could easily have looked him up on the internet. If she did notice the change, why didn't she get on a plane to PP to be with/help him, or was he wrapped up in Judith Hill exclusively? Perhaps, as another poster said on the old thread, he needed a more experienced woman (read: older) in his life to pull him out of the abyss. JMO

Hey I just think you'd have more success with a dedicated thread in the associated artists forum. That's what Andy Allo is. smile If you want to turn this into a general discussion about these North See Jazz shows I think that would be great as they're amazing shows.

I agree that her solo projects belong in Associated Artists; however, her many collaborations with Prince belong in the Prince forum. The same is true for any other artist who had duets with Prince. What rational person could argue that Prince duets should not be in the Prince: Music and More forum? See, the thing is, such duets are rare, which is what sets Miss Andy apart from most of Prince's associates, other than Sheila E (back in the day), Rosie Gaines, (and perhaps one or two others).

Here's a thought: Why don't you start a general discussion thread about the North Sea Jazz shows? I'll chime in...and I promise not to second guess your artistic tastes.

I have. And I told you earlier that I bought "Superconductor" and it is the #1 CD I play in the car every day. I really, really like it. Sorry to pull the thread in the wrong way, but for me the two issues are intertwined. P.S. I did watch the performances. They remind me of Paul McCartney bringing Linda into Wings, although Andy could sing and play an instrument.

I understand. I also think their music and relationship are intertwined, but we seem to be in the minority on the org. And, to answer your initial question, I'm sure that everyone in P's inner circle will be forever wishing they had done more to save him. The thing is, probably none of them ever considered the possibility that he would ever not be here. And, only those on the plane knew the gravity of his situation. P was telling everyone else that he was fine and the media was reporting that he had the flu. In any case, I just think finger pointing is, well, pointless. It won't bring him back.

Multiple threads that are repetative in content, obsessive in nature, and where the OP becomes histrionic when contradicted? Yes, I would. Especially if the threads are repeatedly pulled, but the OP just won't quit. Again, unhealthy.

I agree with Rogifan. A dedicated thread to Andy in the AA forum would be far more appropriate. There's one for Shelby, and most of that thread deals with her collaborations with Prince, NOT as a solo act.

Histrionic? Seriously? Repetitive? Please point out another thread of mine about "Girl." I'll wait.
.
With regard to Shelby and her collaborations with Prince, perhaps those threads should be bumped up to the PM&M forum. I don't have a problem with that. Do you?

.

Still, I must say, it is the most bizarre thing that so many of you seem personally offended that Prince and Andy Allo had such a close and fruitful collaboration in his final years...and, for whatever reason, you seem so intent on trying to minimize (and marginalize) it. Truth be told, that is a large part of what feeds my desire to explore further their historic, prolific relationship.

I have all three NSJ performances on a mega.nz account, and I must say he paid Andy quite a lot of attention on stage in those performances and others. I swear whenever she'd come onstage, he'd get more loose and a bit flirtatious giggle I swore I could see Andy brush her hand against his arm when it came down to the "ooh, wee baby, I think you desire me" part in the 'Girl' performance.

He was a notorious flirt and loved the ladies. It must have been wonderful for all of them during their time with him.
I was lucky enough to watch one of the north sea shows that was floating around last year before it got taken down. Sort of wish I had saved them, but I wanted to respect P's feelings about that while quagmire. Besides I am hopeful one day they will be released proper by the estate so I can buy them all up! Sooner rather than later smile
The North Sea and Montreux shows are some of the best musical performances I've ever seen/heard. Especially the 2009 Montreux. It's exquisite. I don't care as much for his shows that include back up singers, dancers, infinite band members. Those are excellent too but I like to see and hear him most of all and sometimes all that other stuff is just too distracting.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Ha! Good one, Billie!! You had to see the whole clip to appreciate my point. They were having so much fun playing with each other that Prince was doing his best to keep his cool. They are doing what almost looks like a mating dance around each other while the other was doing their verse. It is priceless. It truly brings me great joy to see them so happy and lighthearted. For some reason, however, it seems to have the opposite effect on some here on the org. Go figure.

There's a performance of "Girl" from Paris in 2009 that I like, too.

+1 on the 2009 Paris (acoustic) version.

Quite hilarious when Prince tries to get the men/women sing/shout "Girl!"/"Boy!" and when some men also sings "Boy!" he comments "just the girls sings that..." wink

yes P was having a blast!! I recently saw some footage of "When I Lay My Hands on You," from that same show, and Prince was in the rarest of forms. I mean, it was like his flesh was literally on fire, like he sang about in "Girl." Whew. I was screaming. giggle
