Because that's credible.

And don't forget that Prince named the love interest in UTCM "Mary SHARON", so there's that too.

I think it was totally made up, as a marketing strategy.

He meant to shock, to grab atention and make people wonder about him. I must say it worked, since so many years later we´re here discussing it smile

isn't sharon one who died years ago? I think I looked her up online at the time and she looked like a normal church grandma to me, that doesn't mean anything though.

In an interview that Prince did in 1983 with Rock & Soul magazine he said, "It's just an experience. It should not be taken any other way than that. It's just an incident in my life". Not sure how to interpret that statement.

Personally, I interpret the words you quoted as somebody being intentionally vague and non-committal. Maybe to perpetuate whatever myth they might have some vested interest in persisting? Who knows?

Do you have a link to the actual interview?

Personally, I can't fathom why anyone would write such a libelous song about someone they had only admiration for.

If he wrote this song for no reason other than to be edgy, that would make him a prize asshole.

Great song btw. What's interesting to me is that neither sister ever denounced the song. And considering at least one sister sued him over lyrics to U Got the Look, crickets in regards to this ditty. Just sayin...

You took the words right outta my mouth!

I was gonna reply to that same post with, "Well then why didn't she sue for libel?"

But I eventually realized the futility of repeatedly trying to reason with a 20 inch thick brick wall.

I could also imagine "the incident" that Sister is based on, being something as banal as them having a spat, and the older sister kicking Prince out of her New York apartment because his feet smelled and he left piss on her toilet seat.

Then you had T.C Ellis talking about how old hustlers and pimps retire and move up to the N.Minneapolis and how they all grew up around this vibe. It made me wonder if he got the idea for the song from his surroundings.

.

I think that we are talking about statutory rape in the case of Prince and Lorna.

.

And a young person can learn a lot from an older more experienced partner.

.

The fact that Prince wrote this kiss and tell song suggests that he wanted to get even with Lorna for something.

.

So maybe he was upset by the experience.

Here are issues, masks, and myths that interfer with recovery for male survivors of incest:

Frequent Issues and Problems

Lorna sued (and lost) her brother Prince over the lyrics to U Got the Look. She claimed she wrote it. It seems she would've tried to sue Prince for defamation if the lyrics to Sister are false. Hence, there is probably some element of truth to the deeply metaphorical lyrics. I believe the song is more about lonliness, fear, and coming of age anxieties.

How many of you who believe Sister is a literal account of incest, have such a strong need to believe it is non-fiction because you yourselves are victims of incest?

I get the sense from a lot of the pro non-fiction supporters' posts, that telling yourselves Prince went through something you also went through, helps you cope with your own personal traumatic incest experience.

It might help you release some of your quite apparent — and undeniably justifiable — anger, if you share your stories.

Trust me. You won't be judged — not by me anyway. It's pretty apparent that you're in good company here.

I don't know if I believe it is literal or not. To be honest, I've not listened to that song or Papa because of my own history. If you want to read my story, it's in my signature. I have no anger. I shared the symptoms many adult male survivors experience. For myself, I hope it is not a true account because I would not wish it on anyone - especially would not wish it to make myself feel better about my experiences. And if you think that believing Prince went through something similar helps survivors to cope with their own experiences, it's obvious you've not experienced that trauma and do not understand survivors.

As I said, my book is in my signature. It's not an easy read for a lot of people that know me. I am working on revising it because I posted "as is" when I was first writing it to allow myself to heal from wounds that were too long open. I want to refine it, make the sections between (the now) flow better and describe in more detail the healing process and coping mechanisms survivors use, as well as, my own thoughts and feelings on what the descriptive sections of the incidents evoke. Also, want to add more content about facts about survivors. In other words, it's still a work in process but what is posted right now is the raw aspects of abuse.

You can read it online. And I don't know Prince to be able to answer that. You've read through the list. Do you? My opinion on whether he showed any of the things on the list would only be based on heresay.

This is a disgusting take on the situation. If a woman wrote a song about being raped by her brother when she was 16, no-one would be doing this shit about "a young person can learn a lot from an older more experienced partner"... Come on!

He is literally begging her in the song to leave him alone. The song doesn't describe a positive situation at all.
