Prince stated his songs were true so I say yes, he f**ked his sister eek

Really, so his dad also shot himself in the back yard with a shotgun? See Papa.

That is not true of his dad, so maybe, just maybe, there's a chance that not everything Prince wrote was true. Maybe some things were fiction.

I believe that story is true also, but his dad just shot the gun in the air. Now I'm only responding to you because you asked. I only responded to this thread because someone I like asked. Now you don't have to respond to me though because I don't care what you think
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

Some people will believe anything, stick their fingers in their ears, and chant "LA LA LA LA LA" all day.

Of course, so does a 7-year old when they hear Megan said Amber talked behind Tiffany's back about Alison.

Wait, I thought his dad really was half Italian? Prince got all that hair from somewhere. I thought in recent years he said his mom was mixed with a bunch of races too.

MmmmmOh-K.

I guess he must have nailed her one day after getting off from work at his part-time job at the five and dime?

Are you saying Prince probably turned his best tricks on the streets outside Old Man Johnson's Farm?

No wonder Mr. McGoo never liked his kind.

One chilly cold afternoon in September, after he was peeping through a window at Mary, Claire, Denise and Belle . . . .

He more than likely genuinely felt that he was Half-Italian during those years. Google Lil Bow Wow for a recent example of someone with this mindset.

I know it has been mentioned that Prince wanted to just go all out with the sexual thing with Drity Mind, and boy did he. I think Sister just represented this goal to shock and titalate the public to it's extreme. As someone who works with incest survivors - male and female- it is unthinkable that someone who has been a victim of this would sing a song like this about it. Not even close. It is myth (and perhaps a fantasy) that males are unscathed by incest. That said, it is not like I get all self-righteous when I hear the song. It is hard for me to fully embrace it due to the above, but I would be deeply disturbed about the man if was singing it and had been a victim. BTW, I do love the Dirty Mind album as a whole.

His father is originally from Louisiana. There's a post buried somewhere here about his genealogy -- spurred by a fake website that claimed one of his grandfather's was white.

.

Tori Amos was forcibly raped and she sings a song about it.

.

Most people who experience rape or incest or both probably don't sing songs about it because most of them aren't professional singer/song writers.

.

Who says Prince was unscathed.

.

"She's the reason for my, uh, sexuality"

.

"Incest is everything it's said to be"

.

Dr. Drew would describe every one of Prince's sexy songs and all of his sexy performances on stage as "Äcting Out Behaviors".

.

There is no evidence that the song "Sister" is not based on real events, and there is testomony from both Prince and Tyka saying that the song "Sister" is based on real events so why are people trying so hard to disbelieve it?

Here's his family tree:

.

This site doesn't say what race his grandparents were so it is not very helpful.

.

But I think that the only reason that we are discussing his race in this thread is because someone said that Prince once claimed to be of Italian descent and that that was a lie.

Hence since we know Prince is capable of lying, we should be skeptical about whether the song "Sister"was based on real events.

I find it very easy to believe that the song "Sister" is based on real events, given how common incest is.

And I don't think that it is unlikely that Prince did have some Italian ancestors given how light his skin was.

He may not have been lying, he may have just been misinformed.

In America (because we are a nation of immigrants) people don't always (usually) know what their ancestry is, and sometimes they think they know, only to find out later that what they believed was wrong.

I didn't find out that I was part Scottish until I was 40 years old.

When Tyka was asked about the song in an interview she said that the song was about Lorna Nelson..."

I listened to that podcast. Nowhere in what I heard, did she say it "was about something that actually happened".

Starting at around the 45:52 mark in that podcast...

Tyka Nelson says:

"...It's about my older sister. And um. Because she's so pretty. And she is so...You know. She was the type of person back then...because my father had another family before me and him. And they're older.
And so, um. She was kinda wordly. And just kinda classy. And so he admired her. And the song is in a sense kind of a twist on, you know, 'You're my sister. So we know obviously. And plus you're so much older, there's no way. But because you're such a beautiful woman, you know...'.
It was kinda a tribute to her. And for all of the help that she gave him. She pulled him out to New York. And was trying to get him a record deal and stuff like that back in the day.
It really is a song about how much he admires my sister. But, um you know, people kinda twisted it around the other way and because of the connotation here or there.
'Cause, you know. It was something to get people talking. And they did. It just it wasn't me..."

Nowhere in that interview does his younger sister say that Prince had a literal incestuous relationship with his older sister. Nor does she say anywhere that their older sister literally turned Prince out as her rent boy.

She does say, that Prince was intentionally trying to be a provocatuer with those lyrics ["It was something to get people talking", she says].

I do get the sense from that interview, that Prince might have been conscious — on some level — of the obvious sex appeal his older sister apparently exuded. The younger sister also acknowledges — in so many words — that their older sister was hot. But I personally don't see anything necessarily incestous [in the literal sense of the word] about appreciating that your sister is a babe.

The thing to bear in mind is, Sister was Prince's take on Post-Punk/New Wave. Back then, doing and saying things solely for their shock value was the thing to do on that particular bandwagon.

In an interview that Prince did in 1983 with Rock & Soul magazine he said, "It's just an experience. It should not be taken any other way than that. It's just an incident in my life". Not sure how to interpret that statement.

.

I was only sixteen but I guess that's no excuse
My sister was thirty-two, lovely, and loose
She don't wear no underwear
She says it only gets in her hair
And it's got a funny way of stoppin' the juice

My sister never made love to anyone else but me
She's the reason for my, uh, sexuality
She showed me where it's supposed to go
A blowjob doesn't mean blow
Incest is everything it's said to be

Oh, sister
Don't put me on the street again
Oh, sister
I just want to be your friend

I was only sixteen and only half a man
My sister didn't give a goddamn
She only wanted to turn me out
She took a whip to me until I shout
"Oh, motherfuckers just a motherfucker, can't you understand?"

.

"It really is a song about how much he admires my sister. But, um you know, people kinda twisted it around the other way and because of the connotation here or there"

.

So I just kinda twisted these lyrics of admiration around in my dirty little mind because of connotations here or there.

.

I noticed that Tyka wanted to make it clear that the song wasn't about her.

.

hmmm

.

Personally, I interpret the words you quoted as somebody being intentionally vague and non-committal. Maybe to perpetuate whatever myth they might have some vested interest in persisting? Who knows?

Do you have a link to the actual interview?

I certainly don't know if their was incest, as Prince said all types of provocative things for effect. However, the art and songs that often are expressed about incest, rape and so forth rarely have been treated in such a light fashion (come on people dance to my incest experience!!!!). It doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I find it disturbing if it did and this is his response to it. Tori Amos is a good counterpoint. Her song evokes the sheer terror and intensity of emotions of being raped. You hear it and have no doubt what happened. Her emotions seem authentic and fitting.

That was me that . I'm referring to body hair. Italians and people from Spain tend to have lots of body hair and thick brows, and Greeks too, so I guess the Mediterranean area. I'm not racist, I am in a multi race family.
