Awww, I've never been much of a joiner, don't hold it against me smile I've been a Prince fan for a long time but am, in fact, an Org newbie. After his passing, like many others have noted I needed a place to grieve and started visiting here daily as of April 21st. I held off on joining straight away out of as I didn't want to be a party crasher, but eventually wanted to join the conversation, so here we are.

As for the non-fans you mention, I suppose you are talking about people who talked a lot about Prince on social media e.g. right after his passing despite seeming to never have payed him any attention prior to that. Yeah, that's annoying I can agree with that. Not really a big deal, but annoying.

Now, new fans who became interested in Prince after such a spotlight was put on him from April on, I don't see what they have to gain by spending time with his music if they don't really care for it or aren't really interested in it. I don't see any reason to be skeptical or annoyed by them. They're fans! And that's a good thing.

I will say, I do wish I had joined the Org years ago. Throughout the years, here and there I would end up reading threads from Google searches that led me here and was somewhat familiar with the site. But after spending so much time here in recent months I feel as though I missed out on a lot, there are some truly knowledgable, clever and FUNNY people here. Would have been really nice to have experienced all of that under better circumstances.

Thank you to all who welcome newbies and thank you to the site in general, it has truly been a gift to be able to come here everyday and share with other Prince fans.

We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

my personal experience... I know a few real socalled Prince-newbies in real life..

they know I'm a fan since the early 80s, they keep telling me how brilliant the Purple Rain song is.. (I am sure I am not the only one who had that experience?), and I ask them to name 1 other Prince song, and they can't... how annoying is that?

mad sad

I even made her (1 of them), a cd with big Prince hits. And she prefers MJ...... she says....

Hmm ok I gave up on her. wink

t

THOSE r the newbies that just wont get it...leave it at that

You're not alone! I'm not really big on chatrooms either, been a fan since 1987 aged 12. I also joined to be amongst those who would understand as my family & friends don't really get it. Just reading the comments on here have helped me, even though I only comment occasionally and randomly lol

I´ve been an org member since day one and I´m happy to see so many new members in this forum and I´m looking forward to seeing their posts, and keep in mind that some of them are old orgers using new monikers. And it´s nice to see some first time org members starting new discussions and adding to the quality and longevity of this place.

We should really appreciate this.

And there´s nothing wrong with people realizing just now how much his music meant to them.

I agree the newbies are tough company.. (I hate them too),

Newbies are often weird, I agree to prefer Musicology or Planet Earth over Sign O' The Times are disqualifying them as P fans imho.....

You all people 45 years of age and up? A newbie to a forum doesn't make anyone a newbie. Someone with a signature.. You been there since day one, etc.. There really are people here who were not born that first Prince day. It's ignorant to attack new people when we all know Prince would welcome ALL of his fans. I was in others groups before I came here. I'm around the Purple Rain I was only 2 or 3 years old when his For You album came out. Doesn't make me a newbie. Using the word "Hate" towards fellow Prince fans is nothing short of rude and childish. As Prince would say.. Act your age not your shoe size. Stop being disrespectful to people as you know the man you followed since "day one" wasn't. Try the adult route and welcome the newcomers. This doesn't surprise me. I've experienced rudeness like this from childish adults from many of communities and forums I've owned and the ones in which I was a member. But what DOES surprise me since I've been visiting here is the amount of negative posts I've read here about Prince from his own fans on this forum. Tsk-tsk.

Yep. Me. I'm 59 and was a big fan back in the days of casettes and walkmans. I remember watching MTV when ATWIAD came out and got that sinking feeling. I spent the next 25 or so years in the childraising raising/ RN night shift job grind so entertainment went out along with alot of other things.

When P died, I realized to my eternal regret what I missed. I joined the ORG in June but then quit due to guilt about intruding into an almost sacred site. After 2 weeks I couldn't stay away and rejoined.

Guess I'm addicted to Prince. I thank the members who have shared their pictures and memories and welcomed me.

Thank you for all the lovely welcoming thoughts. For the record, purple rain is not the only Prince album I know and love. My other favorites include the gold experience, crystal ball, come, LOtUSFLOW3R & SOTT. I can't even attempt to pick a favorite song (or 10 most favorite). Thank you Prince for all the music!

When I lived in Texas in the 1980s, I got totally addicted during my pregnancies to chocolate covered cherries Blizzards, onion rings and those big freshly made sloppy cheeseburgers. (Don't tell P about the cheeseburgers.)

How juvenille and childish is this thread topic. I've been a Prince fan since 1979 when I used to stare at my uncle's "Prince" album cover while "I wanna Be Your Lover" played on repeat. Saw Purple Rain in the movies three times in 1984, bought every magaine that even mentioned his name, the movies on VHS and most of his music. Not all fans knew or even wanted to join a website to express their love for P. The ones who have been on Prince.org do not own Prince, his memory, legacy or the right to claim dominant alligance, simply because your tenure on a website is longer than anyone else. It seems to me that you entitled orgers do not truly love Prince at all, because if you did, you'd know that Prince wasn't on this kind of bullshit. This is highly ignorant.

Yep, it's amazing how rude people can be on a website. I guess it's easy when you don't have to look the other person in the eye. But there are some really nice people on this forum. It's best to just ignore those with the attitude. wink

Me too. I'm 58 and loved Prince when I was youg(er). I live in the Netherlands and I did not hear anything from Prince anymore after Kiss. Of course I was very busy and very happy raising my 3 children. I did not have a computer back then and did not listen to the radio anymore.

The saturday after Prince died, I saw Purple Rain on TV and I was devastated! I started watching Prince on YouTube and I cannot describe how I felt when I realised what I had missed. My heart was broken. Although I am coping with his death a little better these last days, I cried for 4 months.

Because I am a shy person and english is not my language, I do not post much, but I like to read the posts and know that there are other people grieving his death.

I'm a newbie here but not a newbie to P. I READ about Prince before I HEARD him. The Rolling Stone magazine was delivered to our house (the old days 1979) and I read about this new musician in a blurb in RS. It sent me to the wrecka store to search for his vinyl. So dont caterogize me or others as a newbies that "piled on" after his death.

He is not a piece of property that you get to claim as your own. There is no measuring stick as to who is the better fan.

I came here because I needed to grieve with other like minded people.

I appreciate everyone here who has welcomed me with open arms.

The grief is still strong.
