I agree.

Just suggesting that, as any other producer,
Prince has probably learned something from this huge Philly Sound on steroids.

Again, not considering the composition,
just the production (the huge synth bells, the massive reverb).

You can't say it's not sonically close...

TGE is maybe the first album for which the overall sound is not very original, by Prince's standards.
You can hate the "plastic sound" (although I don't get this from it) of Emancipation,
but at least it's Prince experimenting : there is some serious shit going on
in the backing tracks and sub-mixed overdubs, lots of ideas.
Hence the bizarro-sounding kicks, snares, which sound too artificial to some ears.
The sound colors may appear plastic to some, but Emancipation
should be judged on headphones alone.
I think it's first meant to please Prince's ears, and then ours possibly.

The sound of TGE is big Marshall amps and huge drums, trendy (and corny) samples,
pristine trebles, infrabasses and massive synth presets.

Well, it carries basically all the flaws brought by the Loudness Wars, and the sound of the era.
Because, quality of the songs aside, Lawd, TGE is one heck of an overcompressed album.

You are trying too hard....and Eye Hate U is F'n brilliant.

...when in reality, the best song of TGE is of course "Hide The Bone". wink

If we gon' start like that, then the best song is, of course, Days of Wild. One of the most frustrating things of this period is that he made fantastic music that never turned into fantastic albums. In the spring of 1994, European radio statons played Interactive, Now, Days of Wild, Most Beautiful Girl, Acknowledge Me, Pheromone... Imagine hearing them on the radio (or on bootleg) for the very first time. It was such a relief after the overblown prince album; Prince (TAFKAP) getting back to his roots, rocking and funking again and even rapping without sounding like an idiot- in fact, his raps sounded dead on it. He went underground. He played small clubs. He played all new music. He was exciting again and also (more than) a little weird. You had to go and look for his music. You had to know where to look. But... Unfortunately, none of that energy, none of that excitement translated onto his albums, all of which came out too late, overproduced (compare the original version of Most Beautiful Girl to the album version and you'll find a soppy movie worth of totally unnecessary sound effects in the latter),so that by the time his albums came out, nobody was interested anymore, including The Artist. But damn, back in the spring/summer of 94, he was hot!

^^it's amazing how so many great songs were left off the album! "Days Of Wild","Hide The Bone","Ripopgodazippa",etc. This probably should have been a 2-CD set.

Ripopgodazippa would've been so perfect for this album! even after reading those early TGE album configurations from the PrinceVault site like ughh damn! i would've added that as a fav track on this thread. lol

Either "Gold" or "Shhh" (although "I'd rather do u after school like some homework" is quite possibly the worst lyric Prince ever wrote)

The guitar solo at the end of "Eye Hate U" might be my favorite of all his guitar work.

Hahahaha I actually love that lyric!!!, when I first heard it I was like wtf?? but now I love it..

some of Ps lyrics I think some of his worst are:

"Like animals just born to breed"
Come to think about cha baby
You're my only need" and..

these lines from come;

"Don't talk or breathe
"Don't cough or sneeze" ( I mean, it could happen..but why do we need that visual)
Oh, just dream, dream, dream " and

"Like a (Come) splendid, open ended
Celibate friend (No more will you cry), pretending
Not to know (Come) it (know it) when I blow it (blow it)
In your eyes (Here's a reason why) - eeeewww
Like a strawberry (Come), chocolate
Fender jazz, mashed potato, fuzztone (Come)
All over your thighs" - ( seriously yuk yuck yuk)

But.. The"homework" line does not bother me at all..

hahahahaha sometimes I'm like couldnt you have really thought about it and put a better rhyme in there! biggrin

sorry I should also say I know I was getting off topic as the two lyrics mentioned are from other albums but thought I'd just say...

Shhh. I freaked out and cried , I had no idea until last night that was really Prince song
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

I can't split Shhh and Billy Jack Bitch.

These two came to my mind straight away, but I think P Control is the one I actually enjoy the most 😳

The Gold Experience is one of my favorite albums. It's VERY hard to choose a song that is a favorite. However, I have a number of songs that are tied for first place on that album. Song for song, that album is an example of sustained excellence if I ever heard one.

Gold, Pussy Control, Shhh, Endorphinmachine, We March, Dolphin, I Hate You, Now, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

I LOVE this album - it rocks on every level!

.

If only there had been proper promotion behind it; it would have been a smash!

.

I will also say this: my 11 year old has been forced to listen to it (repeatedly) over these summer holidays, and he agrees that, actually, it doesn't sound dated at ALL and, if 'young uns' didn't know it was P. it could well be a chart-topper, even now.

.

In answer to the question, in no particular order: BJB; 319; Gold.

Especially the first, raw version, without overdubs.

The vocals are even better, and the spit is huge.

Was it a huge gob aimed at WB face?

I think that's Prince at his (almost) most violent.
