Meh... That sound had already been made :

"I Hate U" is lyrically great, but musically it owes its grand operatic chorus to this song.

And no, sorry, TBO it sure ain't.

Exactly.

Sure, the rest is fun, but this is the Warner Wars declaration,
so "Gold" and "Dolphin" are very important songs in retrospect,
manifests for an artist's right to reinvention (not to mention an artist's copyrights).

And "Shhh", well there are so many incredible live performances of it, it's almost nauseous.

When I first heard it on live bootlegs in 1994 I loved it the most and still do, despite it making many people's list of "throwaway" songs on TGE. But you peeps can take a long walk off a short pier.
.
NOW
.
Great party jam, some of the funkiest drums, kind of a sibling to Days of Wild which was criminally omitted from this album, fun guitar licks, Prince screaming and pretending to take a drag...it is just a fun and crazy track.
.
Great great album all around, though. Too bad it was lost in the WB wars and was preceded by promotion like Prince being on Letterman with Dave's intro:
.
"Performing a song from his album The Gold Experience, which I'm told will never be released. So it only makes sense that he'd be here performing it tonight."

The Gold Experience is one of my fav's so it's hard to pick my favorite song. Right now I'm digging Gold so I'll pick that. But I also jam to P Control, Endorphinemachine, Shhh, Now, 319, Dolphin. LOL about 75% of the album

I agree.

Just suggesting that, as any other producer,
Prince has probably learned something from this huge Philly Sound on steroids.

Again, not considering the composition,
just the production (the huge synth bells, the massive reverb).

You can't say it's not sonically close...

TGE is maybe the first album for which the overall sound is not very original, by Prince's standards.
You can hate the "plastic sound" (although I don't get this from it) of Emancipation,
but at least it's Prince experimenting : there is some serious shit going on
in the backing tracks and sub-mixed overdubs, lots of ideas.
Hence the bizarro-sounding kicks, snares, which sound too artificial to some ears.
The sound colors may appear plastic to some, but Emancipation
should be judged on headphones alone.
I think it's first meant to please Prince's ears, and then ours possibly.

The sound of TGE is big Marshall amps and huge drums, trendy (and corny) samples,
pristine trebles, infrabasses and massive synth presets.

Well, it carries basically all the flaws brought by the Loudness Wars, and the sound of the era.
Because, quality of the songs aside, Lawd, TGE is one heck of an overcompressed album.

You are right though that "Hide The Bone" would fit in well on TGE.

.

And that amazing wonderful brilliant song "P Control" seems a little out of place on that Album.

Have a look here.

Now download any shareware sound editor that will show you the waveform of, say,
Endorphinmachine. You actually can see the problem.

Let's put it this way.

Had it been a B-side, P. Control would have reached the same cult status of the ATWIAD and Parade B-sides.

But on the TGE tracklist, it's kinda like starting ATWIAD with "Tamborine".

The real TGE, the final "Emancipation" album is a 3-disc set made out of TGE, Come and Chaos & Disorder.
Throw in oddities like NPG's Exodus and "The Undertaker", and you get the best Prince album of the nineties.

And where is Days Of Wild? Sheesh...

The dichotomy of "Come" and "TGE" was a good idea, but he had already done it
with the "Black Album" and "Lovesexy". But the Warner Wars were more of a materialistic quest.
Heck, Prince had deserved it. He deserved to be paid half of it.

We didn't get the name change at the time, but it was one of the most brilliant moves
in show-business ever, little did we know Prince's fight was no lunacy.

A more eloquent example :

TGE is nonetheless a sonic tour-de-force.
The more you compress, the more you have to clean the tracks from debris and imperfections in playing.
Then the song becomes a big fat Audioshop (as in Photoshop®) edit.

TGE sounds as pristine, maybe cleaner than HIStory,
and yet it tooks just a few weeks to record, not years.
Furthermore, I really doubt there is one single overdub made on Michael B. and Sonny T. takes.

TGE sounds better than Bruce Swieden,
and yet it's probably all live takes left "as is".
