As a divorce attorney I can tell you there is nothing in the divorce papers that will make P look bad. His divorce appeared not to be contested. So there would be no dirt in the paperwork. Only contested divorces contain derogatory information about a spouse.

However, I think it is telling that Bremer Trust attorneys appeared at this hearing. P's divorce attorney is the one who sought an attorney/client privilege waiver from the Probate Judge as to confidential information they had in regard to heirs. When you get a divorce there is complete disclosure of assets and debts. I think the Star Tribune caught on there is something in there about an heir(s) and payments made to an heir that people want hidden. My own opinion. DONT SHOOT!

Thank you for the clarity.

The real questions that I will only dwell on for a few moments is why all the Nelson have to prove there relationship? Why does Tyka? This is more important to me than the other court issues because these folks are "family" or so they have lived their entire lives thinking that. It woudld suck to have your DNA tested and find out the not only is Prince not your brother but now you need to know who your real daddy is. That sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine why she'd need to hide a pregnancy, since she was married to the man. Of course, it wouldn't have been THAT hard for her to be out of the public eye for 6 months (it's easy to hide it in the first 3), since people weren't even sure he got married back then (remember?). But, there's no reason to hide it now...the kid would be a teenager. She's pretty open about her family and her kids on FB. Can't imagine she's hiding a teenager somewhere. No, it's got to be something else. I just hope they don't drag her business out in public. If they release anything, I hope they redact most of it.

So you don't think it's the whole 80s person but someone during their marriage which would explain leaving Mayte out of it? That kind of sucks to have all that rehashed even if it doesn't come out.

Oh dear, I hadn't really thought that far into it. But, yeah, if they only want the work product mentioned earlier, and P's lawyers asked for the confidentiality to be lifted and she doesn't want it lifted, then you may be right. I guess it could be something that pre-dated her but they you'd think they'd want Mayte's divorce papers, too, like you said, UNLESS he didn't know about it when married to Mayte so there was no trust yet. I guess there are several possibilities, but divorce can be a painful thing and I'm sure she wants her business kept private. I don't blame her and I'm glad she is fighting it. It's not all about P all the time.

Of course, this is all speculation on my part. It just seems sort of obvious. It could also be a matter of principle for her, but it's an awful lot of trouble to fly to MN just for the sake of principle.

I don't think there's a question about Tyka, for sure, or any of the other half siblings. They are using their DNA as confirmation of who John Nelsn's children are to help determine if Duane's child and grandchild deserve to be heirs. The judge is just hauling in ALL of J. Nelson's kids to be thorough because he's had enough of all the confusion. But, as I understand it, no one is questioning Tyka's relationship to P, in particular. She's just one of the elder Nelson's kids.

If it was a Trust Agreement for a child that P was funding it would be necessary to disclose this on the Court's financial disclosure forms. This person probably hasnt come forward to file a claim against the Estate because A Trust Agreement may contain language that would prohibit this individual from filing a claim against the Estate. Its also telling that the Star Tribune filed because they love Prince from the articles I have read. They have heard something through the grapevine. They dont care about the settlement agreement. They are looking for something else.

This was a court ruling early on: all reasonably considered as heirs would undergo DNA testing.

Under Minnesota law, siblings and half-siblings (or their legitimate heirs) inherit equally.

Think about it. Duane's daughter Brianna and her daughter Victoria have REFUSED to take DNA tests and want to be considered as heirs due to the "familial relationship". That's not good enough.

Duane did not receive a distribution from Prince's dad's estate, indicating that he wasn't really a child of John L Nelson (although he was always treated as a member of the family). THEN, Tyka did not list him as an heir, in her initial list. That's a second clue that Duane wasn't a relation.

This is a large, complicated estate. I think the court is doing the right thing.

If Tyka believed Duane was a sibling, she would have listed his heirs. The deceased sister(s) had no heirs.

If he was Prince's legal sibling, then his children would receive his share. There is a question as to whether Duane was, in fact, legally Prince's sibling. His mother put Prince's father on the birth certificate, but there is a question about this. I don't believe the sister who passed away had children so there is no issue with her share. If she were alive, she'd be like any other sibling.

Of course, the lawyers around here could maybe explain it better than I can.

Stop feeding me with speculation and more questions. Now I kinda want to know what's in there.

Wouldn't that be something if she did something and its in there?????????????????

I have always given her the side eye because she showed up like right after Mayte was moved out-imo. The divorce papers may have dates and times and then she could be Prince Fam Enemy # 1.

This reminds me of an epidode of Law and Order- I want go into the whole story but the key to the conviction was in the divorce paperwork.

The Judgment in 2010 is only a guess....he owed her spousal support for a period of time and didnt pay or stopped paying so she filed to get the money and she was granted a judgment against him.

I thought divorce documents were generally sealed? And even in states with public records it's not like they post details...just motions.

I'm not sure what the Star Tribune hopes to find out, to be honest.

Probably looking for that mention of an heir in the document, since it has been widely discussed here.

Just to clear something up - Star Tribune are pushing for these documents to be released because they want to know whether Prince was taking drugs whilst he was married and if that had anything to do with the divorce.

That's the only reason. There's no secret heirs or trust funds or any such nonsense so I want to stop that idea in it's tracks right now.

It's salacious, disgusting and shameful.

They feel they have a right to Prince's personal information because he's no longer here. That's literally the position they've stated.

Disgusting.

I urge anyone on Twitter to tweet them @StarTribune and let them know this is unacceptable and trashy behaviour.

How do you know this? It was reported that Bremer Trust had come across documents among P's belongings that indicated that they may contained info about potential heirs. A few weeks after that article, Bremer filed a motion with the court to compel P's divorce attorneys to turn over divorce documents to help them identify heirs.

The pleadings would not contain any references to drugs! When you file for divorce you file a Complaint for Divorce...it is boilerplate langauge...you dont put it salacious dirt in a Complaint for Divorce. She filed a Complaint for Divorce, they settled. There is nothing in the paperwork about drugs! WTF?

Militant I would norally take your response as a source of truth but I don't want to, I like my version better.

As much as I love Prince and have in the past been a huge defender, I don't know what I thought I knew about him. But what I have seen and experienced with my own to eyes is that even your close friends and associates will turn on you. In about 6 months to a year there will be an untold number of tell alls. If there is a real drug issue or heir it will come out, especially when the money runs out.

Until such time, there is an heir or Mani did something that she don't want Mr. Benet to know about....but she has told him because she is in court fighting to keep it quiet. I will speculate till the judge rules.

Somehow I doubt this. If there is something specific she doesn't want out and she never told her current husband, I'm sure she's told him by now. It would be so awkward not to, and they do seem to have a close relationship (of course, who really knows). It strikes me that she and Eric Benet have always had something in common through their previous marriages to A-list stars so it would be weird not to have discussed their frustrations with each other.

I think she just either doesn't want to relive the pain of a divorce in the public eye (which would be enough of a reason, really) or there is something specific relating to an heir (remember, this is what the Star Tribune is asking for) that she and P agreed should remain private.

And, realistically, it's probably the former and not the latter because the truth is usually less dramatic than reality, in my experience.

As has been previously discussed here: this was an UNCONTESTED divorce, meaning that there would be no reason to include personal information in the divorce.

.

The working papers have been specified in court as containing mention of an "heir". THAT is what the S-T is wanting to know about.

If the S-T can prove to the judge that all they want to see are those papers that mention some legal issue in an "heir", the judge may grant it. That would not invade Manuela's privacy and Prince now has no legal right to privacy.
