I'm curious as well. I noticed Amazon removed The Black Album 180 vinyl re-release altogether. I have purchased 9 so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that WB plays nice with Prince's estate. (Side Note: The words "Prince's estate" were difficult to type. It's all still surreal to me.)

Just to be clear, none of the releases this year or upcoming have been (or have been said to be) 180 gram releases. The four titles that were put out in 2009 & 2011 were 180 gram pressings, but nothing since then has been.

Interesting. Amazon is selling 180gram releases (they must by the 4 you mentioned). How can I tell if my albums are 180 releases? Is it indicated on the album or cover?

FOR OVER 3 MONTHS NOW PURPLE RAIN HAS BEEN THE TOP 10 BEST SELLING VINYL IN THE U.S.

CURRENTLY AT #6 ON THE BILLBOARD VINYL SELLER CHARTS

I have an older PR LP with purple vinyl (sadly, my original 1984 copy and poster were damaged years ago). Does anyone know if the "new" PR LP include the poster from the "When Doves Cry" video shoot? My "new" copy of Controversy that I received a few months ago included the actual poster just like the first release (i.e., the shot of Prince in the shower).

it was reissued in 20011 if i recall, and does not come with the poster.

Thank you for the heads up, feeluupp! If the long rumored "30th" anniversary deluxe edition isn't an urban myth, perhaps it will include the poster.

DIRTY MIND, CONTROVERSY, 1999 & PURPLE RAIN 2011 REISSUES ARE 180g.

FOR YOU, PRINCE, PARADE 2016 REISSUES ARE NOT.

My vinyl copy of Lovesexy (original pressing, labeled "lent for promotional use only"?) has a few seconds of silence between Eye No and Alphabet Street. The party noise in the background fades, there's brief silence, and then Alphabet Street starts. Is this how he vinyl is supposed to sound?

That's not what I experienced listening to the one I recently bought in Spain.

I did some searching on the magical Google machine and it turns out that promo copies (like mine) had individual tracking, whereas the regular pressing was like many CD copies were -- singular tracks.

Somebody above asked for comparisons between the original and reissue of Parade. To my ears, the reissue sounds even better. There's more bottom end. And I heard shit I've never heard before on Parade, after hundreds of listens. It sounds stellar. And the original artwork was reproduced nicely.

Prince is a musicians musician, and yet it seems we have no reliable or official info whatsoever about what master tapes

were used (could be ADA instead of AAA), if Grundman was involved, or other mastering details.

It's like "just buy the shit and fuck off".

Such a waste, and shall I say disrespect, for both the artist and the audience.

I agree it has more bottom end and is overall good, I still prefer the original though for reasons I already listed.

Bernie was not involved. Kevin Gray cut this. It's right there in the deadwax.

^ Thank you.

Still, pity that these releases are put out in such haste.

They deserve, besides a perfect remastering, documentation and historical trivia.
This is Prince we're talking about.

Anyway, I'm happy to hear that they did a proper job.
To me, the WEA Germany pressings are still the ultimate reference.

Next they have to repair all those years spent selling these atrocious CDs.
I'm sure Prince lost some potential audience just because of that : sound does not lie.

When it comes to Prince, having no dynamics and lack of details is nothing but blasphemy.

That's the DJ promo, as has been pointed out already. Meant to make it easier to find the start and end of songs for radio and discotheque playing.

Very intersting. I have a French Promo version then. I never knew the vinyl was a single track as the CD was. I will definately get this when it comes out then. I have spent the last 2 years tracking down all the vinyl albums and some more. I knew when I finally got 90% of what I wanted re0issues would come out. I thought it would happen with Prince still with us.

My experience of the Prince and For You reissues is that I am feeling the sound. Good quality to me, but I am no expert. I am looking forward to the others, especially to Come and D&P, because then I will have a complete WB set. I will still probably get the others.

Not really.

The only songs on the official LP seguing into each other are "Eye No" and "Alphabet St.", and "Lovesexy" into "When 2 R In Love".

If you can get your hands on mint condition original pressings (and you have the budget),
look for the WEA German pressings (sorry if I'm repeating).

It's really "color Cinemascope in 3D" to "old black and white small TV set" when you compare them to the CDs.
Don't underestimate the analogic power of the cassettes though.

I hope these happen! Parade sounds great. My original copies of ATWIAD and SOTT have some surface noise, so getting pristine records would be sweet.

Has anyone bought the Vinyls through Amazon or Fnac and also get the MP3 copy through Auto rip or digicopy? I am curious as to whether the autorip (or equivalent) version is also improved through a remaster. The reason being it might be a reason for me to buy off them. I bough other (Paul Weller/Lianne Le Havas) vinyls off amazon and thought their MP3's are better than itunes. At least to my ears. Otherwise I'll just shop around the net for the best price.

So far, I'm more than happy with the quality of the vinyl re-issues.

I haven't checked the AutoRip, but I haven't heard anything about remastered digital files. Plus, Amazon often fucks this up and gives the wrong versions.

On a related note, I bought a record through Amazon earlier this year (Garbage - Strange Little Birds) and downloaded the auto rip mp3s which are 256+kbps thinking I'll replace them later with the better quality mp3s that came with the actual record. But when I used the code from the download card in the record, the mp3s given were only 192kbps. So sometimes it's worth it to buy vinyl with auto rips from Amazon.

I have had a positive experince with Aamzon, FNAC (FRance) and BacktoBlack in terms of quality MP3's. I bought Sheila E's Icon and the coupon link was dead, and the record company Moosicus don't respond to emails. I ripped that one. Rule of thumb is that if I don't already have the CD, I'll order through Amazon or FNAC. If I have the CD I'll go to the cheapest site and sit out the wait time for delivery.
