Does the Controversy Remaster / Reissue come with the poster of Prince in the shower just like the original album did back in 1981? I have to know before I spend $21.99 plus tax on Amazon.

Yes. 33" tall by 22" wide. And if you ask me, 100% barf. But I'm sure others here will disagree. LOL.

They are unofficial. They are legal. That makes them legal bootlegs. Fans should treat them as bootlegs and share them for free. Don't financially support the companies that distribute them.

I know that hipsters find cassettes to be retro and cool, but as someone with a huge collection of cassettes I have to recommend that it's not a good idea to heavily invest in them as one would with vinyl.

It makes sense that vinyl made a comeback. It sounds good. The album artwork is bigger. Vinyl provides an experience that can't be matched by CDs or digital.

Cassettes don't sound better and the artwork is not as enjoyable as even a CD. Most importantly, they have the shortest shelf life of any format mentioned. I've been making digital copies of some of my tapes and have found that about 2 out of 10 won't play. These are tapes that have been properly stored, but the magnetic nature of cassette tape is such that they have a finite lifespan. I've also been transferring my vinyl. Proper storage of clean undamaged vinyl has resulted in almost all of my records sounding the same as the last time I played them, even those that haven't been out of their sleeve in over 20 years.

So, if you get a nostalgic kick out of cassettes, by all means, pick a few up. But please don't invest big bucks in a high end tape deck or start building a huge collection of tapes. In the long run it is not a financially wise investment. wink

EDIT:
Of my Prince cassette collection, these no longer play: Dirty Mind, Controversy, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, The Glamorous Life... sad

EDIT 2:
I have a stack of about a dozen of those old K-Tel tapes from the 80s (youngsters can google it) and thought it would be fun (funny) to digitize them for nostalgia. I just tried 4 in a row that all crapped out in the first song. Might just toss the whole stack. lol Cassettes suck! wink

I always thought these were thoughts of romantics. I have some vinyl and it looks great and sounds a little different, warmer. But I just had an eyeopening experience with Lovesexy on vinyl. I found one a few days ago while on holiday in Spain, at a little record store in Pamplona. I only had the cd version, so I bought it for € 9,-.

I just played it and my jaw almost hit the floor. It had two bumps, during Alphabet Street and I Wish U Heaven, but the sound is so clear. Such a wide range. I cannot explain. Lovesexy is a very layered album, but I've never heard everything so clear before. And it also seems that the tracks are just a little faster compared to the cd.

I don't know what it is, but it was an absolutely amazing experience! The only problem now is that I want more vinyl!

Admittedly, there is some truth to that. However the ideas/feelings of romantics combined with the quality of vinyl usually combines for an overall better experience, so, it's all good!! music

I have an orignal pressing, played once, can't play it on my system.

My turntable has good anti-skating controls but my needle skips all over the place when I try to play it. I've tried 3 copies (all clean, 1 new), but no luck. Tried my copy on friend's turntable and it played great.

There was a thread here a while back about some people having issues with Lovesexy. Seems like I'm not alone with this issue. Also, I have a large Prince vinyl collection and don't have this problem with any of the rest.

Here's hoping that whatever the problem is it is fixed with a reissue. I'll rebuy Lovesexy on LP but I'm not replacing my turntable for one record... no matter how much I want to listen to it on vinyl. sad

Weird! Is it something about your cartridge? Did someone incompetent (or overly ambitious) cut the grooves on the original?

Have you tried getting a copy pressed overseas?

I've tried 3 US pressings, no others. I tried to use the search feature to find the previous thread where several people reported the same problem but can't find it. IIRC, it was suggested that something about the grooves causes problems with some turntables. I dunno, never came across something like this with any of my other hundreds of records.

Maybe it's just too dynamic, like Led Zeppelin II's first pressing causing needles to jump. :)

I'd be tempted to track down an international pressing to see if it fares better on your turntable.

Is the record one long continuous groove, trackless like the CD?

No. The tracks for each song are as easy to see as on any of the albums.

I get it, but with this one the differences between the cd and the lp are amazing.

But, like you said: "It's all good!"

Although I'm a bit worried about that you acknowledge the fact about the romantics. My wife now might getting all sorts of ideas..... biggrin

Interesting posts and replies... I will add all my quotes and replies here in one post.

1. Lovesexy... never had much with the original 1988 pressing... after 4 attempts I could not get a perfect playable copy... was lumbered with 2 just copies... Perfect Side and B... so Lovesexy became a fucked up rare jackass double LP for me.

2. The cancellation of the reissued black album is heart breaking... I am glad I got my hands on the 1994 pressing which was available for one month back in the day... but I have no idea how many were presssed so I am sure there are plenty of them left around in stores, online, fairs etc.

3. 2011 reissues are amazing... I only have three Dirty Mind, Controversy and Purple Rain... I have yet to get 1999.

4. Yes the poster is in the reissue of Controversy... I haven't looked at it yet... they could have used the album cover back in 1981 and 2011

5. The 2016 reissues being pressed on 140 grams isn't good news and yes 40 grams makes a difference but think about it... Japanese records were pressed on 140 grams pure vinyl however the reissues on 140 grams is pressed from recycled vinyl? It was always done back in the day outside Japan. I don't either 2016 reissues... and I hope ATWIAD reissue doesn't have the skip during the fade out of Ameria... it has with the 1985 pressings from the US and Europe... The Japanese pressing plays perfect.

6. I was hoping to complete the vinyl reissues of 2016... now since most of em have been pushed back and the cancellation of the black album makes it feel incomplete when we have em all in the end whenever they come.

7. The Come album i think is to be released on December 13 2016 same day as the :prince I can't that is 100% accurate... I would love to get because I don't have the regular 1994 pressing although I have 2 copies of the promo 2 LP discs. The prices for the regular 1994 pressing are too high.

7 1/2 The Cassettes reissues should be very interesting and hope WB releases em all again... U will be amazed with SOTT on tape. 1999 on cassette had Free at the end after DMSR which sounded best because the record company had to even the sides when it came to playing time.

I gave up on the re-issues. I still have my original copies of most of his 80s work. However I was missing Controversy, the Black Album, and Lovesexy. I received Controversy a while ago and it skips like crazy (as does AOA). It seems my player doesn't do well with the new "heavy" records. My original copies from the 80s play fine as do my old 12" extended remixes. When I got the notice that the Black Album was cancelled, I just cancelled the rest.

Has anyone experienced this with these new heavier vinyl records?

I've only played the 4 180gm reissues from 2011, they all play GREAT on my system. Haven't got any of the rest yet. Waiting on D&P as it's the only one announced that I don't have an original of. Only Prince record I've ever had a problem with is the original pressing of Lovesexy, as mentioned above.
