Wow.

So, the idea is to ask a question, know that the answer is based on P's apparent free choice to believe in biblical doctrines as taught by JWs, hate the fact that P apparently chose to freely believe in biblical doctrines as taught by JWs, ignore the answer to the original question as provided by a JW, ignore the subsequent offer to investigate the answer to the question at the source of the organization that P apparently freely chose to get his personal understanding of the biblical doctrines as taught by JWs from simply because it's not YOUR choice to believe what JWs believe?

Um. Ok.

So, going by that rule of thumb, if the topic was "What was Prince's favorite ice cream?" And someone said pistachio, but because you hate pistachio ice cream due to your parents forcing you to eat it and some coworker's kid dying from an allergic reaction to pistachio ice cream you refuse to accept that Prince, in fact, adored pistachio ice cream so much that he wrote a song about it. Huh.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but how odd to be that invested in other's freely chosen beliefs...Interesting.

Fade much? Just sayin. Lol

Listen to his music....

One of the things he said in Act of God

We are so tired

We'ree through with it

There never was no Hell or Boogeyman either!

If you see him look..

He's in your mirror

Call it an act of god!

It was one of the most powerful spiritual statements he made. Although he was a JW...I believe he still had common sense and very spirituality like thoughts...in a sense I feel he was mostly spiritual than religious. I think he believed in God and Jehovah because of Earth like belonging, but in his real mind, he always followed his spirit.

Actually, as a JW he didn't believe in Hell. The devil, yes, definitely. I think he was talking about the need for humans to take responsibility for what happens because of their actions instead of blaming it on God.

Someone said he had been trying to take the cd back because he had "gone off" on one of the tracks. I've suspected it was Act of God and maybe you found it here. He would have believed in the devil, and I'm thinking he may have thought of something else when recording this and realised it would be heard as if he said the devil (bogeyman) doesn't exist. Dunno, just a thought.

The truth according to P is God. "The Cross". " Colonized Mind".

For those that find the Bible hard to read - Proverbs is a start. Yes. I do read/study daily.

Why the violence? The apple opened eyes. Separation began journey to redemption. Now redeemed.

Read what you can. P called it knowledge.

Just saying.

I'd like to think that in recent years, Prince broadened his spiritual views beyond the confines of denominational religion... Not abandoning his faith, but expanding it...if you get my drift.

I've never read anything that was more confusing in my life. I don't consider myself stupid but most of it is quite difficult to follow/understand. And there are so many different interpretations of it who is to know which is the most "correct"??

My problem with trying to read it is it is also quite violent

A large chunk of it is talking about the experiences of a people. So where you read 'violent' it is/was/is a part of life. If we read about the Roman Empire, there was violence. If we read about the Japanese history there was violence, if we read about Navajo/Dine history there was violence etc

There are many 'books' that focus on spiritual truths and wisdom and others dealing with 'their history' and no one can avoid violence in this life/world. It doesn't take away from any spirituality.

the Truth according to Prince can be slippery

Prince mixed up a lot of beliefs in his JW connections including Egyptology and his own equations.
When you read about how he talked about his relationship/divorcing of Mayte it definately reads like the Matrix, that he always referenced.

Prince questioned a lot of stuff. Sometimes it seemed like too much

Prince said cool things like in 1985 'We had to do a lot of bike riding nude to stir things up'
Now if they actually did or it was a symbolism, it worked, I understand it without needing to know the truth of that.

In 2009/10 when refered to as a black artist. He reaches out and puts his arm next to the reporter who noted she was actually darker than he was and says 'Am I?'
What Prince actually believes inside vs outside concerning race, when he does something like this I don't need to know, because I like he can do/say something to make people question what the 'truth' is.

and then there are other places where he seems extremely slippery.

Agreed.

But I think there are people, fans and nonfans, who became disenchanted and bitter before at the end they suddenly realized that for all that he challenged people to change and be aware and he tried to find his own truth, he was still just an imperfect human.

He was searching and trying to "get it right" and juggle all the balls and sometimes he dropped them. But at least was open to finding whatever he felt compelled to search for.

He wasn't perfect by a long shot, but at least he tried.

And was damned sexy and entertaining as he did it, too.

Yes, his journey was interesting, sometimes and some period I just pulled back from reading stuff because I just wasn't getting it. So in order not to judge him, I became hands off. But all in all it was interesting.

I still love going Uptown to sit on a bench in Paisley Park, watch the people bike riding nude to Erotic City on Alphabet St

There's just no point discussing religion or Prince's religion. What he told his congregation is not a true reflection of what he lived as he had connections to Eckankar and other spiritual disciplines and was good at telling different groups of people what they wanted to hear. Was he complete JW? No way ...as he told people in his life sbout communing with the dead and having esp as well as believing in reincarnation... Accepted by Christians til the mid 200's until it was condemned as Origenisn for political reasons.

Well, let's say that's true.

Wouldn't that only be important to someone looking to P, an imperfect human, as a spiritual leader?

Regular folks make mistakes all day everyday and try on various versions of themselves.

My life's journey to enlightenment has been extremely convoluted and complicated. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess P's was, too.

But truly, each of our journeys are subject to judgement by whatever deity a person worships, no?

So, if P worshipped the deity that JWs refer to as Jehovah and if Jehovah is displeased by P's level of worship, I think deity will reprimand as needed, no human input required in that process.

If whatever deity is displeased with P, they'll spank him.

Yes.

But as I see either fans disappointed or nonfans jumping up and down sorta like ," See? I always KNEW Prince wasn't sh*t! I was right!" it reminds me of a neighbor whose much older, bigger and disrespectful child got her mother to come to my house and complain about my much younger/smaller son. The kid had been mean to my son in my yard and he told her to leave and when she refused and hit my son, he pushed her back. The mother was yelling and screaming on my doorstep and behaving like a person who needed a mental exam.

I assured her that my husband and I did not approve of our son pushing girls and that we would discipline him.

She yelled and SPIT on my doorstep. Why? Because she said she wanted to SEE my son get spanked.

I told her that he would be disciplined, but that whatever discipline he would be getting would NOT be done in front of her or anyone else to satisfy her morbid curiosity. She called me a b*tch and screamed at me as she walked away.

It wasn't so much that my son had barely pushed her bigger bully of a kid. She was upset because she wanted to gloat and watch his discipline.

I feel, in the same way, fans and nonfans feel that P's behavior didn't perfectly match THIER idea of what THEY feel he should or shouldn't have been doing or saying or thinking so if they could SEE the deity discipline P, they could feel vindicated.

"God, remember how you used to smite the wicked back in the bible? Fire and brimstone and turning people into pillars of salt and killing their firstborn and all the stuff you did to Sodom and Gommorah and Egypt? Well, I'm gonna need you to destroy Prince's wicked ass in front of me so I'll know that you really exist and that he didn't get away with anything!"

Erm...maybe that's exactly what deity did...

Based on scholarship by Anabaptist. Many Biblical scholars have a more expansive view of hell, believing it to be a condition of the mind here in our earthly lives which result from cutting ourselves off from the spirit. A condition which can be overcome at any moment.

Putting down another's faith by calling it false is NOT cool imo. It's disrespectful. Each person needs to decide for him/herself.
