This is a strange one to answer without sounding stupid. As a heterosexual man, I thought Prince was truly beautiful and probably the only man I would ever think that of. I used joke with my wife, and say I'd leave her for him. That sounds stupid, but prince's appeal was that everyone male or female recognised his beauty and sexiness. He played up on it too. He made it ok for us to be sensitive, be strong without being butch. I found a lot of inspiration from they way he was. Strangely I have always felt madly attracted to girls, yet I can't do the macho lad chat stuff. . I always felt more comfortable with girls company, and again prince kind of made that more normal. He was unique. Let's face which male fan didn't dream of dressing and grooming like Prince? We know we would look stupid, we wanted to be him. How the hell did he pull it off. He did probably cos he was a SEXY MF... prince

Cloreen said: i cant agree...thats like saying, "If Tamron Hall, or Lianne LaHavas worked at Burger King, they wouldnt be sexy"...and thats a lie...

.

That's an interesting point. What if Cindy Crawford were working at Burger King. Of course she would be sexy. Even vegetarian guys would be going in that place every hour to order Quarter Pounder Cheeseburgers. Carwford's sexiness is in her looks. That wouldn't change if she were working at a Burger King

.

On the other hand, Prince an usher in a movie theater? No, he wouldn't be sexy. His sex appeal was his fame, his cash, his dancing, his songwriting talent. Now unless that usher is dancing down the aisles singing one of his songs while flashing a lot of cash, then he would not be sexy.

.

Don't want to spoil your theory part 2:

.

Cindy Crawford without the fame working in Burger King is still sexy and hot. Denzel without the fame working as an usher in a movie theater is still sexy. Prince without the fame working as an usher is just some short little guy with bad facial hair. Folks, the guy was not good looking. His sex appeal lies in his talent, fame, and cash....no way in his looks. He wasn't good looking. If the guy up the road looked like Prince you'd think that guy was creepy.

Very true. The seeds of his poor self image were planted years ago. That's why he always had to surround himself with 'attractive' women - to make him feel better about himself. Didn't matter if they were dumb as rocks. (sorry Mayte)

You're wrong. Prince was stunning. He had beautiful, expressive eyes. He had exquisite bone structure. He took very good care of himself and was in phenomenal physical shape. He could move that beautiful body like nobody's business. But do you really want to know what made Prince sexy as hell? His confidence. He knew he was bad. He said it. Any man who has that confidence and that swagger is just sexy. He knew he could have anything he wanted and made no secret of it. And he backed up all of the talk. Even people who didn't find his style conventionally attractive admit that he oozed sex appeal. So, you're wrong.

Never understood his sex appeal, as a guy who grew up in the 80s all the variables seemed to defy convention. But there is no denying he drove the ladies crazy. As a gay guy, I never found him attractive. I admire the tremendous scope of his creativity and amazin music. Not sure I've ever met another gay guy that was into him, physically.

I, as a woman, never truly felt "turned on" by him, but by his music. I always felt he acted/reacted 'too over the top', in either direction and I found that confusing. I can't deny his beauty as a man or his talent as an Artist, that is the ultimate sex appeal, IMO. I'm extremely grateful for such a rich and wondeful legacy he has left us, though.

On a side note I just watched "Under The Cherry Moon" for the first time and although his acting was way over the top too, and a tad effeminate, I found his real voice and comic side very entertaining.

Nah, you just can't see it for whatever reason. Prince was STUNNING. I would have been like, "that little usher is fine as hell" batting eyes

yeahthat

Funny how many straight men still don't get it. Of course part of his appeal (to the masses) was that he was on stage, killing it. That's how we knew who he was and it was so refreshing to have a music icon who wasn't a typical sexist dude. But he had a incredible charisma and just oozed sex. I doubt his little usher suit would have contained it.

I've always thought it was very odd that people saw Prince as sexy.

.

I appreciate very much that he had/has a colossal amount of carisma that can really draw you into his performance.

.

I also appreciate we all see ourselves and others in different ways - or maybe it's just a 'guy thing'.

.

Take for example the photo on 1999 of Prince on the bed - clearly very beautiful and very sensual, but not sexy and not crude in any way - in fact it took me years to realise he had his bum out!!! I just didn't notice LOL.

.

I agree with another Org member who also pointed out that some people can see sex appeal in fame, power and money and that if he was an ordinary bloke, then he wouldn't have been given a second look - but Prince was/is anything other than ordinary!

.

I'm a straight guy but I completely understand Prince's sex appeal. Just because I'm a man doesn't mean I can't see it… hell, I thought Prince was sexy! Sure, I wasn't lusting after him but I found him attractive and magnetic as a live performer, you just couldn't keep your eyes off him. I thought in the KIss video he was very sexy, seductive and cool, and I feel comfortable saying that as a man, although I did have the serious hots for the female dancer in that video!… haha. Prince taught me a lot about women and both female and male sexuality. Despite all his playing with gender identity I always understood from a young age he was a heterosexual man completely at ease in his own sexuality. His confidence taught me a lot, and the fact he expressed feminine sides to himself whilst still always having a sense of masculinity was inspiring - it showed me women value nuance and layers, and not just a 2D representation of masculinty that society shows us. Honestly, male fans know Prince is sexy, they just connect in a different way. I always appreciated that women loved him, it was a joy. Ultimately I'm a fan of the music but yeah, Prince was one hell of a sexy MF!

I'm really glad that all men didn't go around dressing and grooming like Prince...He had plastic surgery I think. I think he looked better and more manly before the plastic surgery but what do I know. He looked the best with the afro I thought...but I'm a girl. Everybody else seemed to like him with his flat hair weave.

Prince's musical style was the perfect storm for me. I did admire how he talked about sex seemingly before any other mainstream artist did, but that's it's far as it went. Music always came first. Sex, style, symbols and contracts were afterthoughts

I'm not so sure about that.

It's beyond his physical appearance, Prince had charisma that women found irresistible. Even nobody-movie-ushers can pull in chicks if they have that same type of charisma and some every day Joes do.

That charisma translated enough to make him attractive in video, but in person is was increased tenfold. Anyone that has been in his presence, male or female, can tell you this.

Maybe it's difficult for some men to understand the power of charisma because a lot of them are simply attracted visually.

I was just curious what Prince's male fans thought of how women responded to Prince. He had so many beautiful girlfriends and wives and female fans who had such an undeniable attraction to Prince. What makes it so interesting is his persona/image defied the masculine archatype throughout history and challenged manly stereyotypes and we women LOVED him...as male fans why do you think Prince resonated so much with women? Did you find the "Prince is so sexy" threads annoying/perplexing?

It was clear to see Prince had a HUGE thing with the ladies. He resonated because he wasn't afraid to say 'I know you women like sex too, and I know how you want to be approached and adored, not just penetrated.' Every Prince song was foreplay. If there is one thing in this world he did understand, it was how a woman wants to be taken to bed and everything that leads up to it.

We are all so full of doody here

I agree Cloreen.

Yes, definitely. Prince even talked about it himself at one of the Indigo after shows in '07. It's on the Indigo Nights CD isn't it? Saying how he used to hang around wiht the cute dudes so any woman they didn't want he could try his luck with. But they still weren't interested. But now, he can't even go outside no more, those days are gone.

Makes me think of the time that Mrs Merton interviewed Debbie McGee. Who? WHO? Yes sorry my American cousins. Debbie McGee was the assistant and then wife for the UK magician Paul Daniels.

Paul Daniels for reference.

.

This thread is not about Prince getting with the ladies. Many guys can do that. This thread is about Prince as sex symbol. I say he reached that status because of his fame and cash. If Denzel worked in an office, he'd be the sex symbol of that office. If Prince worked in that same office? "Keep that little runt with the bad facial hair away from me," would be said by every woman working in that office.

I've never seen or heard Prince described as "a handsome man". He is regularly described as "beautiful" or "pretty".

If it was fame and money that made him a sex symbol then shouldn't Susan Boyle be a sex symbol? She's rich, famous, can sing...

To be regarded as a sex symbol you must be famous. That goes without saying. If he worked in an office... well, can you name anyone who works in an office and is regarded as a "sex symbol"? They might be "That handsome guy from the office" but are teenage girls putting up posters of "Dave" from that call centre on the industrial estate? I'm guessing not.

Prince is regarded as a sex symbol due to a number of factors. The way he presented himself, he's outgoing, confident, unique, not to mention being rediculously talented. All of which are seen to be attractive qualities.
