YouTube clips beginning to disappear one by one

After a couple of weeks of endlessly indulging in concert clips, interviews, promo videos and so on, a lot of the stuff I've been either listening to in work or watching at home is being removed or deleted.

.

Should I be feeling guilty of consuming stuff in a way Prince wouldn't have wanted me to consume it?

.

It always confused me why there was so little Prince stuff on YT back in the day, until I videoed a bunch of clips from the 2007 O2 show I attended (I almost got kicked out of the venue for doing it - only the head of security for the section I was in saved my bacon!), uploaded the clips to YT and then had a message literally hours later saying YT had been contacted by the artist I'd bootlegged and they had deleted my video, and warned me that another episode would see my account suspended.

.

I was like eek

.

The sad thing is about all the pc I had those clips on died and I was never able to retrieve them. Had there been such a thing as the cloud back then I'dve stored it there. Shit, YT basically was the cloud.

.

Anyway, lots and lots of stuff is beginning to disappear from YT now - at least, the stuff I've been watching. I imagine there's so much out there right now that it'll take time to enforce it.

.

Sorry for your troubles, Camille2016.

I posted live footage from the Gold Experience era on YouTube, and proceeded to download tons of other stuff.

i've always felt uneasy about all his work getting leaked right after his death. he obviously got it taken down for a reason while he was alive, so to go against everything he fought for the minute he passes away seemed very unseemly.

have to admit, i watched many of the vids tho.

Aside from the take down notices issued by movie studios and record labels, YouTube utilizes an algorithm that usually detects copyrighted content.

By chance, do you have the video of P's performance of Purple Rain live in 2013. He had an insane guitar solo. I just watched it last night. Figured I would get the chance to download it ASAP this morning - it's gone sad

I find this quite interesting in a number of ways.

Firstly, do we know who is taking the videos down, is it WebSherrif or a Youtube Algorithm?

Secondly, I am surpsied the Trust in charge of the estate hasn't acted on this sooner. If there job is to protect the estate then allowing all music and videos to be on Youtube must have an effect on the value of that estate. Now I know some people will say well, Prince created this and no-one else deserves the money but I would add that firstly, if your parents leave you a house and you are already rich, it's still your house and secondly we don't know what the plans are for Paisley Park. I really hope that it can be part musical school and part museum. Imagine in the future a musician learning his trade at Paisley Park and releasing his album through them. The money from Prince's work and possibly allowing live bands to perform at Paisley may make this possible.

You guys understand that you don't need youtube, right? You understand most of these clips have been ripped from other formats. My suggestion to you is just RUN to facebook. Because you know why? They can't touch those clips, especially the streaming. I repeat: THE ESTATE.WEBSHERRIFF ETC CANT TOUCH IT.

Trust, everyone has archived the majority of this on other video/audio streaming formats, it is where it started from. Fuck youtube, get to FB & get to ripping, peace.

You can start selling bootlegs on Amazon tomorrow if u want... until u get caught. You can even upload them on iTunes... again until u get caught. This is the magic of the internet. Those CDs are not official/authorized releases, there is zero doubt about this.

Part of me is glad that his stuff is being pulled off YouTube, but only part of me and only with this in mind: I want whatever is out there to be "official".

So with that being said, I really wish for the day when the Estate or WB or any combination of entities creates and maintains a proper PRINCE YouTube channel or website.

There's another new thread right now that lists 3-4 new "Live" CD sets. Sold and shipped from Amazon directly. I doubt they have the resources to know when a fake is a fake - until someone tells them.

Most of the stuff that is being pulled from Youtube will never see an official release anyway, and I highly doubt that watching some obscure fanmade video is going to diminish official sales numbers. I doubt that Prince would have a problem with folks watching his videos AFTER his death, and one of the few things that he was wrong about was being against Youtube and other streaming sites.

If anything, they are free advertising and it´s a shame that the videos are disappearing now.

No need to feel guilty for watching them.

I watched and listened to tons of bootleg material before I bought most of the legit releases.

Owning bootlegs has never stopped me from buying legit releases.

It´s a shame that younger generations won´t be able to see all that footage.

I do not think that Prince would have a problem with the fan made vids of his live shows that are posted to show their love of Prince. Selling those vids or CDs on Amazon is another problem.

There should be a dedicated Prince channel for all those music videos or clips of live shows. If anything they will encourage a new fan to go out and buy the CDs.

I enjoyed watching many of the live shows I never saw.

Even the biggest records chain stores had some jazz bootlegs slip thru the cracks at some point in the early 90's.

A lot of the time, there are DMCA takedowns from the record company and have nothing to do with Prince.

The other thing to consider is both FB and Youtube have algorithms where if it was taken down before, it either doesn't go public after you upload it ("previous claims of copyright infringement on this video," etc) or it is later removed via the same (automated?) process.

I would be interested in knowing what messages the uploaders are receiving when they are told that the video has been disabled. (Contrary to belief, they aren't removed -- they just can't be shared with anyone. They are still on the users account -- hidden to everyone except them.)

He probably paid Web Sherriff for only so long. If they take all the videos down, eventually he becomes obscure again. Who pays the bills at Paisley then?

.

It's been great seeing some youtube comments on some of these videos.

Hopefully the estate won't shoot their self in the foot with this.

.

Remove unreleased songs and album tracks, keep performance videos up!

.

He should be celebrated.

I agree Marrk, but since he didn't leave a will -- I imagine that at least for the time being -- they're going to respect how he publicly felt about things. And it's publicly well known in the Prince community that he wanted nothing on youtube unless he was in control of it. That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see everything 4/21 and newer to be taken down at some point.

The family or whoever ends up in charge of the estate may change their policy later on, but I doubt it. They'll go one of two routes. Make as much money as they can by making as much available as possible. Or release nothing, agree to nothing, because that's what Prince would've wanted. Sell Paisley Park, his many properties, and make money off of the current official releases. Hopefully it is the former. I'd like to hear as much as possible before I die.

They've got such a short time to make that possible. With Tronald Dump our next president -- we could all be dead in January and never know what was in the vault.
