Many Thanks to the people who introduced me to prince, because without you I would never be the man I am today because of his music. First Concert Nude Tour Wembley, First aftershow 21 nights at O2. Closest One Night alone. last Hop Farm.

So many memories to share and keep with me.

I promised my 10 year old son I would take him to prince concert one day, I lied, not intentially.

Prince

Forever in my Life.

The true power of music and lyrics is in the fact that any of us can pick any Prince song and take words and lines, whole verses and chourses and they all have a potentcy, a meaning, more now then maybe before. I see so many quotes from prince songs and see new meaning, see so much I never saw before. i am listening to them in a different light, maybe not as bright as it was but we need dark as well as light.

The use of others songs such as Bob Marley in Atlanta, prothetic?, coincidence? or just like music does, it is how it makes you feel, what emotion it creates, may be sometimes different to what the maker intended because of the situation in which it is heard.

Maybe now he has passed some others will be able to look beyond the hits and see so many songs that they maybe (dis)missed and realise a deeper meaning. I write this as I listen to the Atlanta concert and thanks to the person who (naughtily) recorded it, without you I would not have the pleasure of hearing this and the feelings I have right now to write this.

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived" "you only get one chance make the most of it, this is not a rehersal"

Love you prince so like many and you will never know how much your music meant to me. I will live with the memories and treasure them along with the ones I create for as long as I shall live.

The past couple of days have brought a flood of thoughts regarding Prince - each one a reminder of what the man, through his music, meant over the course of decades. This was a guy who made it feel right to feel different, a guy who made the relentless pursuit of one's muse a virtue. Even when I didn't like what he was doing, as a businessman or as a musician or even as a person, I always came back to the music.

Some thoughts that nag at me...

I hate that he never got past the part of his life in which he had been the past several years. The religion, the philosophy, the rather unlovely biases that were balled up in same. Understand: for all I know, he was happy and content with his worldview and would have kept it forever. That said, I still wish he could have gone past it, at least to a point at which he could legitimately perform his own past songs again despite the profanities they included. To a point at which he could accept and embrace all the things he was now and had been before, all at once.

I hate that he never really got his masters back. That it meant the world to him was obvious, and that the Warners deal soured quickly was equally clear. It was a quixotic pursuit, and one upon which he arguably harped entirely too much to fans who didn't really understand the principles, but it was his work, and he pined for its ownership. And then, when at last it was close to within his grasp, he never got to do anything with it. That truly hurts.

I fear for Paisley Park. With no Prince, what can it become? Closed to the public as a recording facility, it will be dead weight. There is virtually no reason to keep it open. It could be reinvented as a sort of Graceland-like tourist destination, but so much depends upon who curates the place, that is a dicey proposition. There is no obvious candidate to run his affairs who feels like the person who should shepherd his real estate. It could be his surviving family, but I don't know that they're the proper stewards, even if they are the most obvious candidates from a legal standpoint.

The vault is also a huge problem. This is perhaps most like Jimi Hendrix, whose dad took over his catalog when he died. No one owns Prince's stuff - certainly not what has been created since his original Warners run was terminated. Again, there may be obvious candidates based upon Prince's will, but...is there anyone you want serving as Prince's representative in these matters? Only ones I'd trust have been out of Prince's employ for decades. I want someone to give the material the respect it deserves, but also to have a sense of the craft in songs in a way that serves posthumous releases.

The practical contemplations feel like they're almost inappropriate so soon, as if they're a mechanism to avoid feeling the impact of his going away. And perhaps they are. He was older than I am, and embracing his music was really the dawn of my listening to music of my own accord rather than just hearing what my parents played. He was not always my favorite, but a lot of time, he surely was. As I said above, there were many occasions, and many in recent years in particular, that I considered him to be a poor handler of his relationship with those who consumed his art. But even in those times, I never left his music for long. I would always find a rationale to dig back into it - it MADE its own rationale.

It's just starting to sink in for me. For the past 2 days, a part of me has still been anticipating when and where the next "Piano & A Microphone" show would be, and whether he'd be coming to my town. I kept having to remind myself that it isn't going to happen. I felt a need to listen to the old "Noon Rendezvous" 84 rehearsal boot that I haven't listened to in ages. When I put that on, it really hit me. The long version of Something in the Water, I started crying. I'm so glad I went to Baltimore last May and saw him. I almost didn't go. It was the best concert I had been to. At least I have that memory. It would make me feel a little better to see Sheila E., FDeluxe, The Revolution, etc., performing again, when the time is right. I feel like I need to be in the same room with them.

Here's the way I have come to reconcile this tragedy in my mind

It may or may not be of use to you

I figured Prince lived and died on his own terms

He was never gonna let anyone or anything dictate how he was gonna live or work

That includes the flu or pneumonia or whatever else

He was gonna carry on doing his thing and give joy to his fans as he saw fit

So knowing this, I just put The Time on and listened to some of the joyously funky music he gave to us

And that made me feel better

Whatever else might come out, this is the way I will look at it.

Never comprimised for nothing or nobody

Hope that helps you too

I've not posted much here for over 10 years. I've read every post in this thread and seen some names I haven't seen for a long while. When I heard that Prince was dead I immediately thought of my old friends here. I miss you dearly.

I just hope you are all coping alright with this tragedy. It's tough times for us all.

How are we going to fill this empty room?

No other artist has ever had such a profound effect on my life as has Prince. No other artist ever will. I feel so blessed that I was able to see him perform in Melbourne earlier this year. Along with his music this experience will be with me forever. I am eternally grateful, Prince, and you will be eternally missed. Rest in peace.

And ban the painkillers.

If the TMZ shit is true, that means that they took away Michael and Prince.

Sure hope ol'Madge stays away from the poison.

Prince is forever, eternal, his spirit transcended even life itself.

Celebrate this most special of man to which we were truly blessed to have shared our time here with.

I'm not a woman
I'm not a man
I am something that you'll never understand

I'm not your lover
I'm not your friend
I am something that you'll never comprehend

No need 2 worry
No need 2 cry
I'm your messiah and you're the reason why

I've been an infrequent poster over the years, but entering my username and password today was a cinch. Lurked over the last day or two, reading all the lovely tributes to the great man made me decide to drop in. I shed a few tears yesterday which suprised me in a way as i'd lost touch with a lot of his music. Been spinning some classics since I heard the dreadful news sad

I wish all orgers everywhere the peace of mind to get through it all. My very best wishes to you all...

Peace and Be Wild.

Another day begins where he no longer walks among us. We must remember that although we are united in this time in pain and grief, we will always be united in love.

Love 4 One Another. Ultimately, that's what it all comes down to in the end.

Don't be afraid to reach out. Reach out to us, reach out to each other. We will always be a Purple family. Share moments and share memories. That's what he would want.

Prince always talked about "the dawn". Well, there are many. This, right here, is the dawn. The dawn of the era that will never end. The era where WE are the ones who must fight, rebel, love, and put in the work! He showed us the way for nearly 40 years. Now that's our path to follow.

Prince, we love and honour you. See you on the next trip. Hope you're having a blast.
